Laughing Jack sat at the corner of the box, no bout of excitement coursing through him. What was there to be excited about? What was the whole point of anything? What-
He could have been going more insane than he already was, but he thought that distinctly, distinctly, he could hear the tinkling tune of his favorite song, Pop goes the weasel, a sign that somebody was winding up the box, letting him out, but then, why would anybody want to let him out? Why would anybody try to help him? Why-
A burst of white light crackled in his vision, black smoke encircled him, and then…
Laughing Jack was…out? Standing in the strange place Elijah had taken him to? Standing right in front of Jason, whose eyes were wide in what looked to be pure, utter shock.
What right did Jason have to be shocked?
“What is this? Why’d you free me? Is this another lie? Are you going to kill me?” Laughing Jack asked, one of his claws twitching. It wasn’t like Jason had the ability to kill him since Laughing Jack was let into the physical world, but it’d still hurt if Jason tried to kill him.
“This is no trick. I have much to tell you, if only you’ll listen for a minute.” Jason said, his amber eyes full of desperate pleas.
What was stopping Laughing Jack from killing Jason right then and there? Why didn’t he just rip his skin out in a heartbeat? Why, didn’t he despise Jason?
Deep, deep, deep down, he wanted to believe that maybe, Jason had a good reason for wanting to hurt him, that he wasn’t as selfish as Laughing Jack initially thought.
It was a small, tiny part of him, but it was still there.
“This better be good. If I hear one more lie from your mouth, I will slash right through your pitiful body and eat your skin. Do you understand, toymaker?” Laughing Jack hissed. He couldn’t hide the bite in his voice and he didn’t try to. Just because he was willing to hear Jason out didn’t mean that he wasn’t still mad at him.
Jason sighed as though he were carrying the burden of a heavy heart, and then he said:
“That’s the thing, Laughing Jack. I’m not human.”
He wasn’t human? But he looked perfectly human to Laughing Jack! Maybe he had magical powers, but that didn’t mean that he wasn’t-
Jason ripped apart his chest as though it were made out of nothing but paper and in a way, it was, for no blood came out, and the skin scraps hung like cloth. In his chest were not lungs and a heart, but white, fluffy clouds of stuffing and a wooden music box, both of which were caged by molding green bones.
“Do you see it?” Jason asked, his green eyes looking as though they were shaking…his green eyes? His green eyes! His eyes were fully green! What was more was that the hands holding open the skin of his chest were not hands at all, but claws! Black, inky, cruel claws! And Jason’s hair wasn’t the red he knew, but white! Pure white! White as snow! White as the fluffy puffs inside of him, the kind of puffs found in stuffed animals!
But Laughing Jack’s eyes lingered down to the music box with the peeling wood, the music box that was centered right in the middle of his chest just like a heart would be.
“I see the music box.” Laughing Jack said, making a guess that the music box was what Jason was talking about.
“That’s my heart. I was scared to tell you the truth, so I pretended to be human. I thought that if you believed that you could kill me, you’d be in a shock when I started to cut you. I thought that it would make killing you more fun.” Jason said, cringing at the words.
Did he really feel bad for what he was initially planning? Did it feel as terrible as the betrayal Laughing Jack felt when he found out Jason’s truth?
Did it?
“Whenever I thought of you, the music box played. I thought that it was because I was thinking about killing you, but all of my thoughts involved being with you, not ending your life. I thought that all of my love had died the day my heart became a music box, but I was wrong. You’re the only one who knows what it’s like to be abandoned. You have so much to give, so much magic inside you. This world doesn’t deserve you. I don’t deserve you. The more time I spent with you, the more I wanted you. I still want you, but I understand if you don’t want me. You can rip out my music box and leave me for dead if you don’t trust me. I won’t fight back.” Jason said, his green eyes watery with tears.
Laughing Jack felt the lump of fluffs in the middle of his chest that served as his heart twist and turn in sympathy. Ah, it was just too easy to feel bad for those sad green eyes, but still, Laughing Jack had to ask:
“Is this what you really are?”
Jason nodded.
Laughing Jack walked up to Jason and gently touched the music box. The wood was just as splintered and haphazard as his box, it smelled just as old, but still, Laughing Jack just had to look within his mind, just to be sure:
There is nothing but blurs…but now it’s clearing up…I can see…is that Jason? Yes, it is him! He’s at the toy shop he told me about! And there’s music too! But it’s muffled…but hold on…Jason put a hand to his chest…he looks excited, but at the same time, terrified…is his music box really playing for ME? Does he really love me? Does-
*A white light clapped in Laughing Jack’s vision, a shrill noise rang in his ears, and then, he was back at the toy shop, except his body felt smaller and weaker, and when he looked down, he had human hands.
Jason’s hands.
What was more was that Laughing Jack could hear a voice in his mind, a voice that sounded like Jason’s, and it was saying, over and over again:
I love him but I can’t I love him but I can’t I love him but I can’t I love him but I can’t I love him but I can’t IlovehimbutIcan’t IlovehimbutIcan’t IlovehimbutIcan’t IlovehimbutIcan’t IlovehimbutIcan’t IlovehimbutIcan’t ILOVEHIM-*
He was back in the physical world, back in the human world. Though he was back in his own body, he could still hear Jason’s thoughts from the shop, as well as a new one which was more subdued, quietly wishing for Laughing Jack to tear out his music box, to leave him to rot. It was a part of Jason that wanted to die for all the hurt that he caused.
But the fact that Jason took the time to let him out, to apologize for what he did, and was letting Laughing Jack kill him brought a flicker of joy back inside him.
“I can see within you, Jason. Looking into minds feels different in the real world than it does in the box, that’s why you don’t feel anything. I can see within you.” Laughing Jack said, letting Jason know why he wasn’t floating in the air like he did when Laughing Jack searched his mind in the box.
“You’re telling the truth. You mean every word that you say.“ Laughing Jack said in a soft tone, one that he reserved for those he trusted.
Just like him, Jason was a monster. But he wasn’t the kind of monster that thought only about himself.
“If we’re going to make this work, you have to promise to never lie to me again. You have to promise to never hurt me. If you do turn your back on me,I’ll see to it that you suffer.” Laughing Jack said, moving his hands away from the box and interlocking his claws with Jason’s own.
He was willing to give Jason another chance. He was willing to look past Jason’s original plan, for while Jason’s thoughts began to fade from his mind, he could still feel that Jason cared, that Jason wanted to be better than what he was. He could feel it from how tenderly Jason held his claws, see it from the sorrowfulness of Jason’s green eyes…he could read Jason, along with another type of connection he felt inside of him that he hadn’t felt with any other humans before.
“I promise. I promise that all I’ll ever do is love you until the end of time. I swear on my music box.” Jason said, his voice breaking in a way that sounded both happy and broken, just like tears of pure, complete ecstasy that came with a moment too beautiful to comprehend.
Too beautiful to be real.
“And I promise to do the same for you. I swear on my Jack-in-the-box.” Laughing Jack said, a grin spreading on his face. A real, genuine grin, a grin that didn’t strain his skin, that he didn’t feel obligated to show! A real grin!
And so, to close the gap between them, Laughing Jack and Jason gave each other kisses that tasted like dying flesh, sugared candies, and a love that would rise through all chaos, bring it forth, even!
It was the most right that Laughing Jack ever felt in his long, lost life.
“Would you like to slaughter the residents of the local orphanage with me?” Jason asked after they were done, his green eyes glittering with the anticipation of a child.
But unlike humans, Jason didn’t annoy him the slightest. No, not at all.
“I’d like that.” Laughing Jack said, unable to get rid of the foolish grin on his face. Why, Jason was promising to be with him forever! To love him forever! It was what most humans strived for, and despite it all, Laughing Jack got it. He got it.
As the two of them interlocked claws and stalked off into the night to kill children, Laughing Jack felt as though he could go about life in complete peace, for on that faithful night, he learned that he was worth love.
All creatures are worth love, no matter how malevolent they may be. All of them.

This fanfic in Jason’s perspective:
When Jason the Toymaker met Laughing Jack
Okay there is a German saying, "Was nicht ist, kann ja noch werden." meaning that something that hasn't happened yet, might happen eventually. Reminds me that my other review was wondering if Jason and Jack are going to be friends (or more). And it might happen. I do wonder what made Jason change his mind...
Also oh man, I forgot to mention it last time, it's even scarier to think about the fact that Laughing Jack has the ability to just casually read minds @.@
Well... that also just highlights how fluid the brain really is, even the brain of creepypastas. If you can look at someone and see them genuinely want to hurt you and a while later, that they genuinely want to love you... Who can say if that doesn't change?
Now I do wonder if the two have a falling out or if I misremember who the other parent is. I apologize for not yet keeping track of all your characters @.@
I like the ending line of the story, it just hurts to think what they are going to do to cememt their love.
Guess I'm not really a horror kinda girl ^^°
(At least no children were eaten, am I right? haha,,,)
I guess they could change. But Creepypastas are the way they are because of the evil they do. For them to change, they would have to do some real introspection and growth with themselves. They would have to overcome their own hate towards the world.
Thank you for reading, tho.
Hello, My Friend!
Hi vamp!! Finally here to catch up, it’s me, Raven, and I’m here to review the next installment in this great story, using my Familiar method! Let’s dive right in, shall we?
~ A full analysis and breakdown
Oh my gosh, this—the bitter-then-sweet ending I remember from Jason's story, is so cool through the lens of Laughing Jack! Watching how he processes Jason's plan, slowly moving past it, and ultimately choosing to forgive was so neat. Let's get into the details though.
Plot and Pacing: Great! I mean, no complaints. I love how you added the vision in this version, where Laughing Jack briefly gets into his mind and sees through the eyes of Jason.
Descriptions and Setting: Lovely! Especially the descriptions of the toy shop, and Jason's true form. I also love the parallels you draw between Jason's music box and Jack's box. One is a prison, one is a heart, one is needed to survive, the other is needed to trap and practically kill—it's such an interesting little detail to think about between them.
Characterization: I love how Jack is so nonchelant in the way he speaks, like immediately after this heartfelt rekindling of their relationship, he's just like "hey let's go kill a bunch of kids!" lol. So fitting for his character, and an immediate reminder of the spooky sort they are <3
Grammar and Wording: Overarchingly? Looks great! I didn't even catch a typo or anything. Nicely done!
~ Some nitpicks and little recommendations
Nothing to stick here this time! Great writing job ~
~ My reactions, theories, and favorite parts
No theories this time, but as for highlights and reactions...
I love Jason's true form, and you capture it so well here. And reading the big reveal from Jack's perspective was awesome!
Oh jeez, this moment again. It still gets me ToT
LOVE the clarification here—after all, there are so many different kinds of monsters, right?
AWW!! Loved this ending, golden moment!! And again, I love how something so pure and sweet is balanced by casual murder lol. Gotta keep it creepy!!
MadThoughts...Overall, this was a great conclusion to this retelling of Jason and Jack's story, with everything I loved about Jason's version and more! Nicely done!
"They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night."
"Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality.”
"I would define, in brief, the poetry of words as the rhythmical creation of Beauty."
I am very glad you enjoyed this!!! Their love is pure and spooky!!!
You're welcome!
