Jeff lay in bed, the dusky morning of 6:00 AM haunting him just like the voices in his head, just like how the living 7’4 clown doll that was his husband, Laughing Jack, stood at the corner of the room, sleeping with his eyes open, his claws twitching every few seconds as if the absence of tearing through guts was driving him mad.

Their house reeked of blood and mildew, the outside smelled like wet leaves from the rain and…and…

Jeff shot up from bed. It was faint, just a ghost, but still, he could smell that peppery, spicy scent…spicy…

The spicy scent held a sweetness to it, which could only mean one thing: The pumpkin spice latte lady who lived in the neighborhood had woken up to make her annual pumpkin spice latte and she only ever did that on…

“JACK! WAKE THE FUCK UP, IT’S OCTOBER!” Jeff cried out, jumping in a perfectly straight line from his bed to Laughing Jack, entangling himself around the clown as if he were possessed by an ancient demon, furiously scratching and biting him before remembering that their daughter, Janice, had to be woken up for school and so, he made a mad dash for her room.

………………………………………………………………………………………..

🦄✨🪱

Janice knew that she had to get up from school. She knew it, but her parents had not appeared in her room and she was counting on them to decide not to take her to school, because Janice could smell the pumpkin spice latte in the air, which meant that it was October, which meant Halloween, which meant that her fathers would go Halloween shopping, which meant-

“What are you doing still in bed?” A rasping, slightly crazed voice asked.

Janice did not have blood, but she could feel her body go cold as a silver sharp knife sliced her murky navy blue curtains into pieces, letting the half-morning, half-night blue sky of 6:00 AM glimmer mockingly in her eyes.

Standing by her window was a man who was of average height, dressed in ripped jeans and a baggy Three cheers for sweet revenge MCR tee,the clothes he had worn to bed. His long, greasy black hair hung in coiled strings around his pale, leathery face, but what made him stand out was the bloody scar on either side of his mouth, the scar that was so big it looked like a smile.

Janice called him her “Knife-Dad”, but the world (or at least, the edgy chronically online teenagers) knew him as “Jeff the Killer”.

Amazingly enough, he not only killed people, but killed her vibes.

“I know, but it’s October! Can’t I come with you and Dad to do Halloween shopping? I already know what costume I want! I just-“

“Janice, you have school. Get up and get ready. You can tell us the costume you want and we’ll pick it out for you. You know that you can’t miss out on school-“

“How important is school, really? I mean, it’s not like I’m going to remember it or anything, so-“

“If you want to be a successful serial killer, you have to be hardened by reality and what better way to learn that than through public school! Now, get yourself ready so you’re not late for school!”

Her knife-Dad disappeared into the shadows and when she got up from bed to look for him, he was gone. Probably getting himself dressed in one of his more elaborate emo outfits so that he and her clown-Dad could go shopping at Spirit Halloween without her.

Janice didn’t see why her parents wouldn’t let her drop out of school at the age of nine. She wasn’t even going to complete school past sixteen, her clown-Dad was a magical being who didn’t need school and her formally human knife-Dad went to school until he was thirteen, so why couldn’t she leave school early?

It just seemed unfair to her, but rules were rules, and she didn’t want her parents to get upset with her.

“I was looking through all of the costumes at Spirit Halloween and I’ve decided that I want to be a neon clown for Halloween! Now, can I come with you guys to do Halloween shopping?” Janice asked.

The three of them were sitting at the table, Janice with a plate of eyeballs that Laughing Jack took from children who ridiculed her (topped with sprinkles, of course), Jeff with just a can of Monster Energy (classic black and green), and Laughing Jack with nothing, because he was a supernatural entity who did not need to eat.

Laughing Jack tapped his claws against the hard wooden surface of the table as Janice looked up at him and Jeff with glittering, waiting eyes. Jeff had stopped drinking his dearly beloved energy drink, turning to look at her, as did Laughing Jack.

“Janice, I know that Halloween shopping is but a fantastical experience for you, but you have school today and you must attend school! Besides, don’t you want to see your friend, Endora?” Laughing Jack asked.

Janice looked down at her bowl of eyeballs glumly. Laughing Jack did not quite understand, because he had a friend named Isaac a long, long time ago and he loved spending time with Isaac more than performing his magic tricks!

He only hoped that Janice would actually stay friends with Endora and it wouldn’t be like him and Isaac.

“I guess. I just like doing Halloween shopping with you and Dad.” Janice said, still not looking up from her plate.

Laughing Jack and Jeff exchanged a look. They both felt a little bad for her, but it stood to reason that she would go to school. And besides…

“You’ll do other Halloween stuff with us. You can even watch some Halloween movies on your own! This is just Halloween shopping, it’s not nearly as important as the actual holiday!”

That seemed to make Janice smile a little bit and so, she ate her eyeballs, saying nothing more about it.

It was just a little bit of Halloween shopping, she wouldn’t miss much.

………………………………………………………………………………………..
🍭🎪🖤

It was a few hours after they had all eaten breakfast. (Well, two out of the three, anyway). Janice was at school, while Laughing Jack and Jeff were at Spirit Halloween, searching for odd and wonderful spooky things for their house.

Of course, Laughing Jack grabbed the neon clown costume that Janice asked for and he let Jeff know so that he wouldn’t have to go looking for the costume.

With that out of the way, they could both look for decorations! It wasn’t like they would be any better than the dead bodies they put up for Halloween, but it was still a nice to get a little something-something. Besides, it wasn’t like they went out a lot during the daytime. If they did go out, like they were both doing in Spirit Halloween, then Jeff would wear a surgical mask over his slit mouth and Laughing Jack would wear a long, black trench coat and a brown 1930s gas mask over his clown face.

Laughing Jack’s outfit made people turn heads, but he thought that it was much better for people to stare at him because of what he was wearing than what he was. He tried to get Janice to wear a gas mask, but she said that it was “too creepy” and that she would only wear it if it was “pink”, so he gave her a child-sized gas mask and a painting kit and told her to paint it.

It had been two years since he gave her the mask. She still hadn’t painted it. Laughing Jack didn’t know if she forgot or if she was putting it off on purpose, but he didn’t talk to her about it. They all had more important things to do and if she really wanted to paint the gas mask, she would.

Just like how Janice wanted to come with them to Spirit Halloween. It would have been nice, but she had school and school was more important than shopping for Halloween stuff.

Speaking of which, they were getting such lovely decorations! What went into the cart was not only Janice’s costume, but also orange string lights shaped like pumpkins (a very cute and refined decoration choice), Scream merchandise (Jeff loved the movie), some clown animatronics (in Laughing Jack’s eyes, there were never too many clowns) and tiny roaming doll animatronics (for Janice, obviously).

All of their shopping had gone perfectly well, so they were going to go up to the checkout, but then-

“Jeff. Do you see that?” Laughing Jack asked. He had to tone down his own voice so that it didn’t sound demonic, but he couldn’t quite keep his anger down.

For right across from them was a row of masks that vaguely looked like the both of them, but they were all distorted, all poorly made.

Not only were there masks, but there were costumes of them too, which also looked like it was designed by a five year old. There were costumes of Eyeless Jack, Slenderman, Zalgo, and The Rake, too.

“Yes. Yes, I see them. I didn’t know that they would actually make costumes of us, but wow…wow, they’re so terribly ugly. Uglier than Jane, even. And I don’t say that lightly.” Jeff said, walking up to the costumes and picking up a packaged costume that was attempting to be him, glaring at it in disgust.

“Isn’t there anything we can do? We can’t have these hideously mocking costumes stay!” Laughing Jack cried out.

The more Laughing Jack looked at them, the more he wanted to fade into nothingness and exist as energy. He knew that Earth was a horrible place, but he didn’t realize it was evil. The fact that the costumes were from Spirit Halloween hurt him more, because the store had quality stuff, so why weren’t the costumes of him and the others made with effort?

Did the humans even care about them at all?

“We could buy these costumes-“

“Buy?! Why would we-“

“Jack, we’re buying the costumes of us so that we can show them to the others. I’ll call Liu and tell him to bring EJ, you’ll get Slenderman, Zalgo, and The Rake to come over. We’ll discuss what we need to do at home.” Jeff said, carrying the costume of himself to the cart.

Laughing Jack grabbed his costume with just a pinch of his heavily bandaged claws, then he ran behind Jeff, asking:

“That’s fine and all, but why are you calling Liu? They didn’t make a costume of him.”

“Why not? I think my brother should come so he can see how lucky he is for not being as famous as us.” Jeff said once Laughing Jack got to him.

Yes, Homicidal Liu did complain a lot about not being popular and it was bothersome to hear, but Laughing Jack couldn’t imagine how much worst it was for Jeff.

As the both of them walked to the checkout to pay for their stuff, Laughing Jack hoped that not only would Liu stop complaining about his lack of recognition, but that the companies would either stop making costumes of them or make them more detailed than they were.

He wished he didn’t see the costumes in the first place, because he was having such a spooktacular day until he saw those things.

Who is Jane? She’s another Creepypasta, ofc! She was created by Fearoftheblackwolf , but there is another version of her created by PastaStalker64. She is Jeff’s enemy, but for a good reason: Jeff killed her family and…it is a tad violent…

Spoiler
poured bleach on her whilst burning her, like what happened to him
. Some ppl saw that Jeff and Jane knew each other and went to the same school.

In my AU, Jeff just attacked her because he was jealous that she had a loving family while he did not and he just says to Jane “it was a different time, I was 15, get over it”. (It was literally 2005).

Now for ages…

LJ: 224. (He came to Earth in 1800).
Jeff: 35. (But shhh don’t tell anyone!!! He’ll get mad!!! He physically looks 27 from a deal he made with Zalgo!!) Jane is the same age as Jeff. They were both born in 1990.
Janice: 10. (She was created by LJ and Jeff in a ritual in 2015).

Endora is another OC I created and she’s Janice’s human friend who is the same age as her. Yes, she knows about Janice’s parents. Yes, she’s fine with it….sort of. They are both sort of nice to Endora but she’s still a bit afraid of them. But she likes being friends with Janice and doesn’t want to change that. Also, Janice swore her to secrecy lol. I would also like to mention that Janice’s peers think she is strange and do not want to be friends with her, so Janice DEEPLY does not want to lose Endora, her only friend since Kindergarten.

Isaac is a character from LJ’s origin story. Yes, there are references to Jeff and LJ’s origins a bit in this fanfic.

These fanfics connect to this!!!

Janice loves Halloween!!! (And she’s aggressive about it)

Janice came up with a love poem for Valentine’s Day!

Janice gives her poem to Corbin!

“We are ALMOST there!”

Belief in what is truly creepy

It appears that the parents have arrived

When you have Creepypastas for parents

Janice literally almost gets kidnapped!

Okay, right of the bat reading how LJ sleeps is really creepy. If Jeff doesn’t banish him from his room for that, it rly must be true love.

Also I love that these creepy dudes are so devoted to their daughter’s education xd

“he not only killed people, but killed her vibes.” LOL
“topped with sprinkles, of course” I love this.

This is “raising a kid 101”: Don’t just forbid them from doing something, give them acceptable alternative. Amazing how these two are doing everything right!

You still have this habit of going overboard with descriptions of clothes/appearance but skimp on describing actions and emotions during dialogue =D

Love the humble brag of “let’s call my brother to show him it’s actually ok to be not as famous” xd

Why do I get the feeling this is based on a similar RL occasion? =D

Mayhaps.

Yeah they love her very much.

Thx for reading!

Review

Hello, it's me again! Trying to get back into the habit of doing reviews lol. I'm going to try (key word is try) my best to write this review to be less unorganized than the last one I gave you, so I'm probably going to keep this short.

First off, I love the super casual tone through which the story is narrated and I think it contrasts with the outlandish premise so perfectly. While we're obviously dealing with an inherently supernatural kind of story, the main theme seems to be slice of life, which is definitely an... interesting setup for a family of serial killers to say the least, and I think you did a good job at maintaining the kind of self-aware "yeah, i know this is a bit silly" voice throughout, mainly because it's important when you're portraying creepypasta characters in such a lighthearted manner.

The plot itself is pretty simple and straight forward; we have two protagonists, Jeff The Killer and Laughing Jack, and one main character, Janice. Jeff, upon realizing it's October, wakes up his husband to go Halloween shopping. Meanwhile, Janice has gripes about going to school and insists on going Halloween shopping with her fathers. The two end up leaving her regardless and the rest of the chapter follows them shopping until they reach the checkout and LJ notices some utterly hideous costumes that are supposed to resemble them, as well as a few other creepypasta characters.

Now as for why this is relevant or important later on, I'm not too sure, but I'm guessing that LJ and Jeff are going to return home and complain about how the cosplayers ruined their day, considering it would be the perfect device to move the plot forward as Janice would probably want to prove herself, judging by her attitude toward school.

I think something especially worth noting was when Jeff said this:

“If you want to be a successful serial killer, you have to be hardened by reality and what better way to learn that than through public school! Now, get yourself ready so you’re not late for school!”

It's an interesting piece of dialogue because it sounds like it wasn't the first time Jeff had to give Janice this lecture but I'm not sure if this implies she doesn't want to be a serial killer or she wants to prove that she is ready to become one already, but assuming the latter, my theory is that her parent's will complain about what they saw at the store, which would be a compelling force for Janice to act on her serial killer instinct, or motivation, ambition--whatever drives her to act the way she does.

In my opinion, something I think solidifies my interpretation of Janice's character is this piece of monologue right here:

The comparison made here seems a bit depressing, especially from LJ's perspective. Again, this is just my opinion, but reading this felt like a father watching his kid grow up too fast in front of his very eyes. It's sounds like he's trying his best not to be hurt by the fact that she didn't bother to do anything with the gas mask and using it as an excuse to go Halloween shopping without her, since if she's grown up now, then it's her choice whether she wants to do the responsible thing and go to school or not.

Speaking of the gas mask, I'd like to address the first potential plot hole. Now I know Janice's appearance wasn't exactly described in depth (which is something to be critiqued in and of itself), however, considering she sleeps with two serial killers in a house that reeks of blood and mildew, I imagine she'd have a rather... unsightly appearance compared to most of her classmates at school. If so, how is she able to go to school everyday without a disguise like her fathers? Why wouldn't she wear the gas mask? Just something to consider, not a big deal. :3

Overall, this was a great introductory chapter for Janice, but I'm also interested to see LJ and Jeff's points of views of their daughter as the story progresses and she grows with it. Will she live up to her parent's expectations, or does she wanna do her own thing? Keep me updated and happy writing! :D

I%u2019m glad you enjoyed this! To answer your question about Janice%u2019s appearance%u2026her hair is so long and so thick that it covers her face. It looks completely unbrushed and disgusting, but yeah.

And she wants to show that she can be just as scary as her fathers, because she has killed people with them before, but not as much, and they don%u2019t think she%u2019s that terrifying. She also hates school too.

I have other fanfics in my comment! ^v^

I'll be sure to check em out!

Yayy!!

And just out of curiosity, what do you think their voices sound like? Any character or celebrity reference?
