When people see me they see stereotypes.
They range from simple comments
to outright rude assumptions
which get under my skin like burrowing bugs.
.
'You're a red head! You must have a short temper'
I have been known to lose my temper
but none more so than when retaliating against
those who would take advantage of me.
.
'You're British, you must love tea!'As much as this stereotype is amusing
I have to admit I cannot stand the taste
of that bitter liquid on my taste buds.
.
'Oh you write? So you're an introvert?'
No. I can take center stage of a room
like a model on a runway, loving every glance
I get with each advancing step.
.
'Oh you're gay? Don't you just love ...'
Whatever you choose to fill in that elliptical gap
do not because I am not a stereotype for you to fulfill.
We do not always want to go shopping
and we do not always want to be called your Gay best friend.
In face the very notion makes me an award,
a possession that you have won.
I do not have a little variety of likes and dislikes
which must conform to your narrow thought.
I do like football and playing video games,
and believe it or not I am not a massive fan of musicals.
I do not want to be a stereotype,
but I will grab that banner and march with the stereotypes
until we can be considered something else,
as people.

I completely agree with this!!!!!!!!!!! Totally true. Everyone is being completely rude and uncivilized to people who are different. Is this what our nation has come to? Surprisingly, yes. In the LAW, all men are to be considered equal. But is that really a law anymore? If it were to be illegal to judge someone from stereotypes, then I'm sure less people would do it. But there will always be deep differences between every person, and stereotypes are what point them out. It's horrible what we do to people who act different. I found no mistakes in this at all, it's perfect in my eyes. Wonderful!
Wow! I really like it! There's a very strong message there that I think we can all connect to. Everyone has been the victim of a stereotype. My favorite part was when you wrote:

'Oh you're gay? Don't you just love ...'
Whatever you choose to fill in that elliptical gap
do not because I am not a stereotype for you to fulfill.
It really made me think because I did start to fill in that gap as I was reading. As I kept reading, I felt ashamed. No matter how much we all say stereotypes are bad, we still play into them because we have been brainwashed by society. I really really like the poem. The only advice I will give is to think about line breaks. Instead of a sentence like in prose, the line is the unit for poetry. Each line should mean something and add to the poem. If you feel like a line isn't doing that, you should revise and figure out where a line break might add to the poem instead, or think about cutting that line out all together. That's really the only thing I could give advice on because your poem is just so awesome. I look forward to reading more of your work! Keep writing!
