Aloft above a cloud an eagle flies

E - Everyone

In Poetry

Aloft above a cloud an eagle flies

deciding who will live and who will die

among the many rodents that it sees

who hide within the grottoes and the trees.

-

Silently it stares before it dives.

then shattering the silence with its crie,

it plummets towards earth with furrowed brow

expecting frightened scurries down below.

-

With talons tearing deeply into heads

the blood it summons glitters crimson red

while curved beak pecks meat repeatedly.

A symbol of the brave and of the free?

-

If I were rodent I would surely run!

But being human I deploy my gun

and blast it, sending feathers flying high

and in that way of terror cleanse the skies.

This is another great poem.

Your keen observation is what makes your poem lively, it was well seen through these lines:

"Silently it stares before it dives.

then shattering the silence with its crie,

it plummets towards earth with furrowed brow

expecting frightened scurries down below."

It states the fact that anything with power will be of a smug when something fears for you.

This poem makes me remember a phrase "do someone a power of good." It was felt by the these lines:

"But being human I deploy my gun

and blast it, sending feathers flying high

and in that way of terror cleanse the skies."

From observing your works so far, the specialty of your works is you always see from other view point. Either it be the fish- Bill, bull, dog etc., It adds life to your poem.

Thanks for sharing this poem. The end was justifying. :)

Hello there!

I love it.

The poem describes the act of hunting from two perspectives: one who hunts for survival and the other who hunts for pleasure. The act of hunting itself has been described so well that it brings about in the reader a feeling of terror.

Lines that I absolutely loved:

the blood it summons glitters crimson red

What a beautiful way to use the word "summon". It paints a beautiful picture! As if the life that the eagle takes is meant to be taken. To be summoned at its beck and call.

and in that way of terror cleanse the skies.

I loved this line for the particular reason that it made me think in two ways: What is the terror that the poet describes? Is it the act of the eagle hunting? Or is it the terror that humanity is? Hunting eagles for pleasure?

All in all! A great job. I'm sorry I cannot offer suggestions as I do not know much about the nitty-gritty of poetry. Though, I did wonder for a second why you used "crie" instead of cry.

The rhyming scheme is simple and flows perfectly.

Thanks for the great read! Write more and more.

Cheers!
