Put Down The Blade

In Poetry

The wrist is imbrued.

Courtesy of the blade.

The skin was the antagonist,

no match for the battle.

Surly someone will censure you,

blast those pesky opinions.

Every night, diligently,

the blade does its dance.

The pain is enervating,

but you move on, intrepid.

Afterwards your lips lift

Into a spurious grin.

Will anyone notice the scars?

Probably, they are inevitable.

No one will notice your exasperation,

You hide it, it's subtle.

Will you ever become resilient?

Too many questions.

You're overwhelmed in adversity.

Hackneyed is what you are.

At least that's what you think.

You're of worth to someone, trust me.

Don't fall into the asylum of depression.

I substantiate you're special.

Hello there and happy review day! Crim here to review your poem.

Jeez, this was powerful and left me in a bit of a stunned silence after reading it. The vocabulary you've used here is just stunning and the imagery is extremely powerful which really aids the message of your poem. I also think the rhetorical questions are very effective as well.

I'm pretty amazed that you've managed to write a poem about self harm which isn't actually incredibly depressing - in fact you've written a poem which is really uplifting and sends out such a great message to its readers, far too many people suffer from issues concerning self harm and these people need to know that they ARE special and worth something to people.

The only nit pick I have is this line:

'Surly someone will censure you,'

I think 'surly' is supposed to be 'surely'. But that's the only thing I can think of that needs to be changed.

Keep writing, and keep sending out these great messages. Take care,

Crim

Hello, here to review for my darling Cheese!
So I’m going to review this for ya!
I liked this and as a self harmer I can see where this is coming from. It’s a very beautiful poem. I really saw no problems with it besides the little indented parts of the poem, I don’t know if they’re supposed to be there or not but they don’t seem to make much sense to me. So the flow is good and punctuation is perfect. I’ll give you a nine out of ten because you use some “bigger” words that some people might not immediately know what they mean and might not be able to figure out what they mean just by reading the poem.

I liked the poem it was an excellent work of a far greater quality than that which I have achieved in poetry. It's imagery was poignant but unfortunately your pen while lighter than the blade seems to drag across the paper. Now I'm all for the expansion of vocabulary but, using a thesaurus and selecting more complicated sounding synonyms doesn't make for a better quality of work. Also poetry isn't exactly the best medium for better words when four letter words oft would suffice.

Remember a poem with symbolism doesn't need to be difficult for the audience to understand. Then again it's nice that it's not so simple people look for symbolism that isn't there.

Thank you for the review (:

Very good and emotional, however i had to look up a few words.
Which is kind of good because it expanded my vocabulary. I have found a few mistakes such as: eneruating which is spelled wrong it's supposed to have a "v" not a "u".

I am definitely showing some of my friends this they cut their wrists. I really liked this poem keep up the good work! :)

Thank you for the review (: And go show this to your friends if it helps out, so many people need to put down the blade! I have fixed my typo (:

I think overall this is a brilliant poem! I like the way it is sombre but at the same time it doesn't make you depressed - the poem kind of dances in a sad way. I like the use of the interesting and intricate words but maybe - just as constructive criticism it seems like you were just trying to shove in as many complicated words as possible - maybe change some of those words to smaller, easier words that cut to the point, or limit those words so they flow in sentences instead of fractured pieces. But really this is a good piece of writing that conveys emotion brilliantly,
keep up the good work,

Thank you for the review!

Ok! now i must say this is great work! i even liked it! Your theme is very common but your way of expressing it is so good!

"Every night, diligently,
the blade does its dance.
The pain is eneruating,
but you move on, intrepid.
Afterwards your lips lift
Into a spurious grin."

This was my favorite stanza in the entire poem. Reading your poem was a pleasure. There was good use of words and phrases. Just one suggestion- i don't know about others but every line of your poetry had words which i was finding hard to understand. Your poem was fantastic no doubt but these words made it a little difficult for me to comprehend your poem. and i doubt if the word 'eneruating' exists. Maybe you've got the spelling wrong. The last line:

"I substantiate you're special"

Was also a wonderful line.

Overall i LOVED your poem!

cheers,

Shiksha! :)

Thank you so much for the review (:
