In Poetry

the sky knows how to play dress-up.

in a world of hunger

                            pain

                                  death

a place that's broken into pieces no matter how much glue we use

i need something beautiful, and

swathes of purple, swashes of cerulean

colors i can't name that blend between blue and pink--

they're all among the clouds, waiting

watching

sometimes i'd like to cup the sky in my hands

hands that are too small to swallow the blue

and keep those hues forever,

savor the enormity of something so natural,

live with the endless expanse of what they call

infinity

but i always scare myself away from the thought,

turn myself from the idea with one sentence:

it'd be too hard to hold so many dreams in your hands

Wow, this is one of my favorite things that I've read on YWS for a while. Absolutely great job!
I'll keep this review short since I don't have a ton of time, but please let me know if you have any questions about it.

The formatting is quite expertly done. I wish that the first time that you used italics that it had some reference to hands/or holding just so that you could read the italics as a poem and the non-italics as a poem, and give it more continuity. I really adore the line that just has "infinity" all by itself aligned to the right, it's just out there alone and forces the reader to pause.

For word-choice I have two small critiques, which are really just my opinions so feel free to ignore. I don't love that you phrased it "domes of cerulean" because the word "domes" doesn't lend itself to the getting dressed metaphor. If it was something more related to fabric or ornamentation I feel like the metaphor would feel more continuous. Another critique is that I don't love the progression of "pain/hunger/death" I feel like it'd be more logical "hunger, pain, death" but either way death almost seems overly dramatic in this list. I'm not sure if there's a way you could pick a word that is more natural between pain and death, but hunger (while can be a serious medical issue that causes death) leaves me thinking of desire or longing (less serious synonyms for hunger) and this just sounds somewhat trivial compared to death. I hope that makes sense. I think it'd be less of an issue like I said, if pain and hunger were switched.
You did such a nice job overall with the imagery and symbolism and soft narration, there is really not a whole lot that I'd want to critique. My favorite lines are the one with the color between blue and pink (so interesting!) and the whole last stanza. Incredible piece overall! Very nice work.

Wow. This is amazing! I love the way you formattted this, and I really enjoyed being able to follow all of the fragments of your poem from side to side. You painted a really good image here, with your extensive use of firgurative language, and you blew me away!

The one line I feel needs a little work is "a world that's broken in pieces no matter how much glue we use." I still really like this line, but I feel like it's incomplete. There's a variety of words you can add in to this line to make it more clear, but I would recommend something like adding a comma after "death" and putting the following line as "in a place that will always be in pieces" or "someplace that's forever broken in pieces." Just a couple words added, in my opinion, would better link the final two lines of that first stanza, and would read smoother.

I also feel that the line "hands that are too small to swallow the blue" would also make as much sense if you added a comma after "hands" and took off the first three words of the next line. "Too small to swallow the blue" would make that line flow better, and make it less wordy, but it's fine the way it is. I like your use of the word "swallow" and I'd almost suggest you use a verb like "capture" instead, but I keep going back to your original word.

I'm sorry for this short review! I really like your poem, though! Really great use of descriptive details, and your theme in this was verb interesting to think about! At least I think I understand what this poem is about. Well done!

I like the imagery it gives, it sounds like a distant dream that's hard to find. sorry if it isn't a good review, beautiful poem

Hello! It's Storm here for a review (I'm kind of on a spree)! Let's get started.

the sky knows how to play dress-up

I like the imagery here!

Come to think of it, I like the imagery in this poem. Obviously it's very nicely phrased. I do feel that "infinity" seems a little too far away from the rest of the lines, though. That and the fact that your title could be a little more creative are my only critiques.

Sorry I can't help you out more, but that was all that stood out to me.
