School's Out

In Poetry

We excitedly wait for the bell to ring

the school year's too long, we all agree.

We're waiting for the excitement that summer will bring

and the end of the lessons that the bell will decree.

Then suddenly--hooray!

School is dismissed.

The class files out

school is something none of them will miss.

So all summer long

we laugh and play

but eventually we die down

and wish for lessons during the day.

But then it's finally August,

and we're all happy again.

excited for tests and notebooks and such,

and especially for meeting our friends.

The school year goes on,

and our elation wears off.

Soon school's almost gone,

and summer is on our thoughts.

The cycle repeats

every single year.

I think we all agree

our emotions aren't very clear!

Hey Artemis28!

I'm RSTorres and I'm giving you a review!

I connected with this poem because this is exactly what I used to feel about high school. Reading this poem has brought so many memories for me. The fact that this relates to many others out there is a great way for you to know that you are doing something with your writing right. I mean, the best kind of writing are the ones where you can relate to.

Also, I found this poem sort of funny! I chuckled a bit because I remembered wishing summer would end and then wishing for summer to get here fast. Looking back, my emotions were very unclear.

Your flow and grammar usage is great and I have no comments or critiques to give you about them. Your rhyme scheme is impeccable and I believe you are a talented writer.

Overall, you did a superb job and I sincerely hope to read more work of yours in the near future.

This was a humorous and very true poem that I think a lot of readers can relate to. We all desire the fun and time of the summer months, but when we get there it is quite boring. Then, we crave the structure that school provides and we are back in a cycle. I thought your word choice was great and the spacing was nice. Keep writing!
