Silver Fish

In 6: Poems

Sleek silver scaled fish,

Darting in an ocean of lapis blue.

Franticly swerving and turning away,

From the curved hook that taunts you.

Stay away from the flashing ruby lure,

Or you will end up on a plate for sure.

Twisting through the basil green weeds,

Your tail sweeping the strands aside.

Here comes a baited, shining hook,

Riding on the waves and rising tide.

But don’t take it little silver fish,

Or you will land on a golden dish.

Hello again and happy Review Day! :D I'm back again for what's expected!

This is quite nice, actually. You tell some sort of story of warning and danger with the fish. I found myself smiling on the food part. (These fish have no idea, do they? Quick! Somebody tell the fish!) You've described the parts where the fish is swimming very well also. (I love water animals, so this makes me kind of happy in a way.) This has action in a subtle kind of way, which makes it so the flow isn't disrupted or anything. From my point of view, I wouldn't change a thing and scream at you to NEVER stop writing even if your life depended on it (ok, maybe that's a little extreme, but you get the point ;) ).
Love this and I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this. :D

Stay awesome!

Hi, Ruby here for a review :)

This was a funny little poem, and I quite liked it. As a vegan, I enjoyed the subject of a fish escaping a fisherman, and I'm totally rooting for the fish here. Putting the poem in the eyes of the fish gave a real insight to what the animal is feeling in this situation, which is the side that most people don't even think about.

I like all of the quick bursts of color: a silver fish, blue water, red lure, green weeds. You may be better off using words other than just the name of the color, though. It would give more complexity to the poem and it would also give a more accurate description of what exact shade of color you're describing. Is the color of the water a clear, crystal blue or a deep, murky blue? Even without it, there is a great amount of imagery here that seems to come in flashes; it seems to really emulate what would be the quick field of vision of the fish described.

Also, there is a fast-paced rhythm you follow that matches the quick darting around of the fish as it tries to escape the lure that's chasing it. Keeping the lure without a face (or in this case, a fisherman) makes the chase going on take place entirely in the water, which led to a great mental picture.

Short and sweet, I liked this poem and as always can't wait to read more from you :)

Hello, Felistia~

This is MergSword here with a review!

Grammar Issues and Other Errors
One thing I guess you could consider an error was your rhyming scheme, as some of the lines rhymed, others did not, and as for the pattern of the rhyme scheme, you did appear to have a visible, and clear one. I apologize if this was formatted correctly, as I am not a poetry expert.

The Pros of this Poem
I definitely liked the poem's topic of a silver fish struggling to ignore a fisherman's hook. I do wonder if fish can tell what's good for them and what it is not, afterall, I am not a fish. Ignorance is biss, little silver fish. I also love the sensation of fear you have in this work, as it rushes adrenaline through the reader.

The Cons of this Poem
I did not recognize any cons of the work, as I thought it was fantastic, however I did realize the similarity of the first and second stanzas and felt as if they were simple variations of eachother. I am not quite sure of this was intentional, so please, feel free to correct me.

My Overall Opinion
The poem was great! Like every poem however, it had it's pros and it's cons. I loved the topic of the poem very much, and found it a great one for a poem that strikes fear into it's readers.

Hello there Whatgoescomes here!! mmmmmm First off I love how while reading this you get a calm peaceful feeling from reading this poem. I like how the last lines rhyme with the stanza before it. It makes for a nice sort of free flowing poem. The only real bit of criticism I can give you is your first line. sleek silver scaled fish. It flows kind of funny into the poem. I think maybe take fish out? sleek silver scales. maybe? Just a thought. :D Other then that it's good. Keep up the great work! ~Whatgoescomes
