2020 isn't a one off year.
The world has always held distress and fear.
Fires will flood,
Fights and blood
That no amount of
Soap or sud
Can ever wash away.
2020 isn't a one off year,
The world has always held sweat and tears.
No, masks will not stop war,
Nor save those we fight for.
No amount of quarantine will
Save families tore
Far, far apart.
Next year could be 2020,
And the only ones who can stop it are you and me.
Don't hide away from those in need,
Save those who starve and bleed.
2020 will never end,
Unless we stop the fires we feed.

Basically, Man In The Mirror sans music, with all of the populists cheese-I love it. Although given the subject matter, the line "soap and sud" stands out as sounding silly compared to the rest of what you wrote. As well, I feel as though the poem could be more effective if you spent some time detailing the horrors here mentioned, thus intensifying your call to action-but maybr not. I like that this poem, like a good pop song, could appeal to everyone. In fact, it almost sounds like this poem could almost be a pop song itself!
I'm not so great with poetry so I can't really talk about the technical side. I did think 'fires will flood' sounded a bit off? Because I feel like flood is the opposite to fire.
And please don't say 2020 will never end because I can't take it anymore DX But it is also true that we, as a species, have caused most of the crap that has been hitting us this year.
Hi! Hannah here for a quick review. It is good, well written, and accurate. I don't think that this will be the best review but I will try. I think you put a lot of thought and heart into this which is what poetry should be. And I think my favorite part is the last two stanza's.
"Next year could be 2020,
And the only ones who can stop it are you and me.
Don't hide away from those in need,
Save those who starve and bleed.
2020 will never end,
Unless we stop the fires we feed." We got to stop it and this poem is the first attempt. Keep writing, have a good day and merry Christmas!
Thank you for the review!
