that's why i claim i'm a 0110010001100101011011010110111101101110,

Hey, izanami! Today I'll be reviewing this poem because I thought it looked really cool. I'll be ditching my usual formula and revert to positive/negative for this. Here we go!

*Translation for reference:
coded
all i am is a person,
created by robots,
raised by aliens,
friends with flaws.
that's why i claim i'm a demon,
since they are perfect,
yet very flawed.
but that's not who i am.
so i will show you all
who i really am and can be.
but no one will truly know
all of me and what's inside.

Part 1: The Positives
This poem opens up huge windows of innovation for the poem scene. Now take this with a grain of salt since I'm no poetry guru (I honestly suck at making some myself.), but I do believe that this is the most creative poem I've ever seen. It's very deserving of the literary spotlight.
It can also be said that the formation of the poem is done nicely. I've seen some poems with awkward spacing, but here, it's fine. +1 for good organization!

Part 2: The Negatives w/ some nitpicks (REMEMBER: ART IS SUBJECTIVE!)
Here is what will be covered:
-The "style" of the poem
-Time spent translating
-Some nitpicks

Starting with the style, wow, was my Grammarly Extension having a field day! I do know that the story is supposed to look robotic and artificial, but the point of view is stated to be from a human? I just generally confused by word choice here.

Most of the time spent reading this poem isn't reading at all, it's taking the time to convert binary into text, even when the words were very simple (*example above). alliyah had already covered this, so I'm not gonna tell you about the translating for more than I have to.

Finally, nitpicks.
-Once again, the style is weird for me. I think that just normal text would work, but it's your poem.
-Word choice (i.e. Is a person created by robots and raised by aliens? Someone should make a story out of that.)

Well, that's my review. I hope my commentary was helpful to you in any way, shape, or form, for that is the purpose of all reviews. Anyway, the arbitrary rating for 0110001101101111011001000110010101100100 (coded) is 4.5 flaws out of 5, in other words, a 4.5/5! Have a FANTASTICAL DAY!

I really am, exceedingly impressed by this poem. I never imagined that I would encounter such a binary code poem. I guess if I were a cyborg or an AI of some kind I could readily comprehend the message.

But no matter! The visual display is absolutely splendid and literally left me speechless. I think that you have hit upon something extraordinary that will soon catch fire all over the world and very soon we will see anthologies of binary-coded poems and who knows, ever full-flegged novels!

Thanks for sharing this fine work of art. Looking forward to reading more of your innovative poetry.

BTW

Here is my review in Binary Code
Please feel free to Enjoy!

Quick question, do the 0s and 1s actually mean something in binary? Or are they random?

They do. I put a translator below

Hi! Danni here for a #SadPanda review!
Firstly I have to say I was learning about binary in school today and it was really hard and I saw this and thought, I must give this a go.
This was really good! I liked the way the font it was written in looked kinda computery. Good idea that.
I also like the way the words are emotional but then go onto 01 blah blah blah blah. I’d be interested to know what it really says.
Nitpicks:
Uh...... none. It was great.
Keep ip the good work!

I Love this concept DG. Really neat to do a poem incorporating binary! It reminds me of a really interesting poem by @Demeter haiku for the shipwrecked and then a more recent fabulous poem by @Querencia which also incorporated morse code (work/Querencia/-------Rebecca-137579#c631129).

Reception
It is a bit cumbersome to translate so many words in it though, even with the translating converters out there - and I'm not sure the pay-off is so great because the words are so simple?

I have a few suggestions on this poem that are more conceptual, since this isn't the type of poem that really needs flow, formatting, or grammar critique.

I think this poem would be more powerful if you did either of these things

Suggestions
1) Make the theme something more about identity tied to technology or about not being able to reveal yourself - so that the process of having to translate the poem, ends up giving insight into the actual theme of the poem. Like the process would mimic the content.

or

2) Maybe you could make the poem have a few less binary words and choose ones that really have bigger pay off - like the word "coded" or "identity" or "life". For some reason, the words chosen just don't seem to be that significant. And if the words were all written in English I don't think this poem would be too remarkable. Which ends up making the binary seem like a gimmick rather than an asset or integral part of how we understand the piece.

or

3) Another thing you could play with is making a poem that could be understood with or without translating the words. As is, you left out all of the end nouns and adjectives so a person couldn't just skim the English and get any clue what was being said. If there was more substantial English portions, this poem could be appreciated from two levels - the binary and the written out text.

Potential Problems & Cohesion
Those are all my suggestions I guess, and to be clear, I think this concept is extremely neat - I just think it could be taken to another level. I've tried my hand at coded poems before (ineffable) and it received some of the most mixed reviews of any of my pieces. The thing with coded poems, is it's almost like making an acrostic or a shape poem - sometimes people will get really hung up on the gimmick and not give it a chance to begin with and sometimes people won't be able to read past the gimmick to the actual content of the piece, but ideally both the "gimmick" and the "content" are working in unison so that a person is more likely to fully appreciate both as a finished product.

Best of luck in all of your writing, and if you have any comments or questions about my review I'd love to hear them! :)
