This poem was very interesting. It was a joy to read and was a good free verse. I love how you compare Joy to Chills, that's very interesting in way that it makes sense. The diction you used was also very good because they just fit with the poem, as was with "pickling" or "sucking". The words just really tell the personality of the poem and it most gives a strong tone of joy and stubbornness.

Tip I would give, is to give like a side note for some of the words you use, such as "vive" or some of the big vocab you use.

Good Luck with writing.

Fun fact! You're the last poem in the green room right now! And that's pretty cool, seeing as this was written in July!
But I'm here to kick you out.

Fantastic poem. The imagery is so perfectly right between vague and concrete. Like, I don't know what you're talking about exactly, but all the words feel right, and they all share the same central imagery of these hot peppers. If you're willing to share what you meant by this poem, I'd love to hear it. Sorry if I missed something obvious.

The emotion that the imagery gives us is crystal clear, however. I can almost taste that burning fire in the back of my throat, and the sort of mix of adrenaline rush excitement and the yearning to be free from that pain, and I don't know if that's what you meant to give to the reader, but that's what I got from it. And I have the craving for milk now to soothe my burning throat.

Most of your words were spot on, but there are a couple of little nitty gritty bits.

"vietongue" is this some way of trying to say like, Viet Cong? If not, I don't get this at all, and even if that is what it's supposed to be, it really isn't that clear why it's there or that it's meant to be that at all. Maybe this would make perfect sense if I actually understood the meaning behind the poem as a whole, but I don't, so this just looks like a word that makes no sense.

What is the language you're using in the vive! line? It looks almost like spanish, but the accents are in the wrong place, and "song" is wrong all together.

"a Peruvian spice mix mirth" shouldn't that be "mixes?"

But the imagery here is so perfect. Everything is so hot and loud and bursting with life. That's what I think this poem is really trying to show. I can just imagine you feeling really hot in the summer but still so alive with the heat, so joyful, and this explosion of a poem was the result.

It also reads well with the formatting. It's not too short and not too long, and each line feels just natural where you broke it. Fantastic poem all around.

I really enjoy all of your poems and wish you'd write more!
I hope this review helps somewhat! Keep writing!

Sorry for the delay in response, I somehow missed the notification for this and prolly would've never noticed if someone else hadnt reviewed it xD haha!

Thank you for reading and I am so so glad you enjoyed it and felt the enotions you did. I was trying to paint a portrait of one of my good friend's sister who is such an amazing person, and host and inspiration. I sat for dinner with their family, but in this portrait I kind of wanted to paint a picture of a bonfire, of a fiery lady with a fiery tongue and the regret the speaker feels, both for feeling alive in this moment and regretting npt being able to feel alive in moments of their life previous to this. I need to develop it some more I think. Vietnamese is the language (con song=alive), and viet/tongue means to be referring to the language, but I will probably edit it out because its not very clear at all. Thanks for your suggestions and comments.

How are you doing, Audy? I just about stopped by to congratulate you on making such a fiery and passionate poem, just about everything you were trying to get across. Absolutely loved it and I've been rereading it for minutes now. But enough of empty compliments. Let's get on with the actual review, shall we?

"she has the kind of hold that kicks
a tenor song out of tempo,"

I'll be totally honest, I have some mixed feelings on this opening line. On the one hand, I think it's very strong and a really fierce way to open up your poem. It's confident and you obviously believed what you were writing. I know that seems like an odd observation, but what I mean is that, this poem resonated something in me because there was no doubt in my mind that it resonated with you. On the other hand, it is sort of a sudden introduction. It seems so immediate that I understand why someone might feel a bit overwhelmed by it.

"a Peruvian spice mix mirth in her eyes
and faint as a ghost as it wonders in yours."

I like the way that sounds... Peruvian spic mix mirth, Peruvian spice mix mirth. Try saying that six times fast. Anyway, my only concern with this little tidbit here is that second line. I find to be a bit confusing since I don't know what you're talking about. What is as faint as ghost in comparison to the spice in her eyes?

"sucking the marrow shriveling at my spirit,
the day was one when we revered it."

I really like the wording here, it's such a fulfilling stanza. I do feel as though it's a bit rushed of an ending and doesn't have much of a conclusion -- but I'll be honest, though it's not a finale masterpiece, I still love it. It gives me chills. I can't stop reading it.

Overall a beautiful poem. I'll definitely be reading more of your writing in the future! Don't stop writing and keep the poems comin'!

Vincent,

Thank you for reading & reviewing, it means a lot. <3

The joy/mirth is the thing that wanders from her eyes to "yours" as faint as a ghost. A bit of an awkward phrase of it, I have that problem a lot xD Thanks for pointing it out, I knew something was off in the line and I kept thinking it was because of the repetitive "as" so close together, now i get a better sense to what it might be.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I may build a couple more lines in between pickling and sucking, just because im not quite sure i got the moment across successfully. I want the suddenness of the beginning and end to be indicitive of how moments pass us by unflinchingly (though perhaps not to taste- thats ok!) But i think the middle of it lacks a groundedness, perhaps why it doesnt come across? I'll take a look at it! Thanks again!

This is legitimately in another league than I am. There is no way I can possibly review this without making myself look like a fool. Excellent work.
