sometimes I look at my hands and they are raw and numb

In Poetry

Sometimes I curl myself into the body
of an 8 year old, arms wrapped around myself
and hands searching for a body as if I am afraid
I am disappearing.
I find that somewhere inside of myself,
I am still the girl pulling her hair out
when she finds she can’t do anything to the world —

I learned the names of her medication
before I learned my times table;
I could untwist caps until my hands were raw
and she would grope at my skin for the pills
like a blind man begging for a last bite of food.
Their names still march through my head
like mantras, lists, things that kept me going like
turning off the stove and checking the door was locked,
methadonemorphineoxycontin, another another another,
chiming through my head, familiar

as the sound of a resigned sigh, the backdoor closing.

You churn out great poetry like some kind of poetry machine. It's pretty righteous.

Okay , lemme go one by one on reviewing this amazing piece you have written. I almost start correcting the mistakes and then end my review with the lines I liked and comments. So lemme start as usual.
The first three lines:-
"Sometimes I curl myself into the body
of an 8 year old, arms wrapped around myself
and hands searching for a body as if I am afraid"
I think it would be better if you would add a comma to the first line and the last line like-
"Sometimes I curl myself into the body,
of an 8 year old, arms wrapped around myself
and hands searching for a body as if I am afraid,"
Yeah.. That be better.
The line:-
"I find that somewhere inside of myself, "
Seems to me a bit weird (could be only me but still)
Why don't you try and twisting and replacing the words within the sentence to make it sound more good.
More like "Somewhere inside of myself I find" Or maybe something more better.
Okay so now easy go with the first stanza. Now coming to your last stanza
"before I learned my times table;"
It should be time table and not times table.
In this line:-
"like mantras, lists, things that kept me going like" Put a comma.
In this line:-
"turning off the stove and checking the door was locked, "
It should be checking if the door was locked. That would sound much better.

Could you please tell me what does this mean?
"methadonemorphineoxycontin"

That's done with the mistakes and the negative traits which I find.
Now the line which I liked the most was
"as the sound of a resigned sigh, the backdoor closing."
Comments:- Great Poem... Needs Some Improvement. It Be Great! Keep Writing. :D

Very well written poem. Your imagery is vivid, and I liked all the metaphors you had in it. Especially the one about the times table. That seemed to stick out especially, not sure why. And how much of a 'normal' habit it became to recite the lists of the drugs. Very good.
The only thing I spotted, and not sure if anyone else's pointed this out yet, was that your last line is spaced one line away from the previous line. There's a gap there; is that supposed to be there? Or did the formatting get messed up?
Hope this helps!

This is a really deep and thoughtful poem. You should be proud of this work. I love the way you have organised the lines and their length. The last line of the first stanza particularly: 'when she finds she can't do anything to the world - ' is really cool because it shows the link to the next set of ideas.
Job well done. :)

Hey persy! This poem is amazing- better then anything I have ever wrote but-- I think you should re-read this and decide again if it was written how you intended.

"Sometimes I curl myself into the body
of an 8 year old, arms wrapped around myself
and hands searching for a body"

The hardest hitting line was the last one of the first paragraph for me.

And for some reason I just love this: " like mantras, lists, " It added this emotion like panic.

And you logged out after I wrote the best poem Evarh. ><

Just kidding.

until next time,

hero

Hi Persy, here I am to make my review on your poem.

First of all, I think this poem is not merely a poet's imagination but more than lifting a social reality that struck a child. The words are familiar, but requires deep contemplation. That is, the reader seems to be invited to contemplate every words used in the poem. Diction chosen is very unique and more than inclined to the meaning connotations. On your poem, I can feel the emotions in such despair and misery.

#I am still the girl pulling her hair out
when she finds she can’t do anything to the world —

#and she would grope at my skin for the pills
like a blind man begging for a last bite of food.

In overall,Your poem are associative (which able to evoke thoughts and feelings that pervade the reader emotionally).And I really love your writing skills here,for sure.But still,the end of this poem is not so clear,but I think there will be something to observed through the last line here;

#as the sound of a resigned sigh, the backdoor closing.
Good job!
Kudos
