Every drive down a back road
Every lake, river and forest,
every snowy day, every rainy day,
every quiet moment,
makes me think of you.
You are always there,
mostly quietly anymore.
Missing you still hurts.
It's been a year since we broke up
but you were the best.
You were something I never believed in.
I remember that night vividly.
All night crying
Weeks crying,
months of no sleep.
I wanted to give up
I wanted to die
But life moves on and bills have to be paid.
So I kept going.
Tried to hide the pain.
Not very well, but I tried
Especially to hide it from you.
We couldn't stay away from each other
and accidents happen.
Three weeks in and I lost the baby.
I was terrified to tell you.
You stayed, you helped.
We stopped, it hurt.
But life moves on and bills have to be paid.
So I kept going.
Over time the pain became my background.
We did the impossible and stayed friends.
Real friends.
Even when I moved away.
Because life goes on and bills have to be paid.
So I keep moving.
I love you more than words can say,
In a way words can't describe.
I have no desire to be with anyone else,
but I don't want you back because I know
we wouldn't be happy.
I will always be thankful what we had,
I always be thankful for however long we will be
in each other's lives.
I hope you are happy, no matter if you stay on your own
or meet someone incredible.
I'll always be here, for the highs and lows,
cheering you on.
Life moves on and so do we, even if it's just towards ourselves.
Even if it's just for ourselves. We don't have a choice.
Life always moves on and bills always have to be paid

I think it's my favourite poem on this site. I loved it, genuinely. I love how maturely the author and ex seemed to handle the situation, I love that it felt genuine and sincere, I admire the strength and resilience of both parties, and the repeated refrain is simple, but true. And wise. Very wise. Especially if you actually take that advice and do it, hehe
Love this; can't wait to read the rest of your work.
Salutations. I'm here for a review. I apologise in advance for my limited vocabulary :0

I really liked this poem. I liked the way it conveyed the heartbreak and how I actually felt it. I can relate to that as I went through a painful breakup, and I felt like the world was ending. But it wasn't.
I like the formatting. Most poems have double spaced line breaks in them, but this one doesn't seem to have the need for that, so you did a great job.
I really enjoyed this. I don't have anything to criticise, so keep up the good work.

Wow. "bills have to be paid" a true sign of wisdom and peace. An obvious "don't hold a grudge" poem. Because friends are forever and there is true peace in a laborious love like friendship.
