Hello Stranger!
Welcome to my cemetery. Are you looking for knowledge, secrets, skeletons in the closet?
Or perhaps it's just morbid curiosity, or lurking in the shadows hoping to find something darker
than what you hold yourself, something to distract you from working on yourself and facing your own shadows?
No answer? Fair enough. Alright, come on in, dig around.
Do you want to wander or would you like the guided tour?
The dark corner over there is a work in progress, cuts and past shadows still healing
The fallen, crumbling headstones over there are every shadow that's been beaten, wounds
that have healed and faded as well as memories that have faded or been forgotten.
The small, quiet area over here is the scars that will never go away, but the pain has faded and
the lessons have been learned and peace has been made.
Now we come to the center, don't mind the graves that seem to move, all of these are a work in progress.
What's the big one to the side, that's damp and marked with faded red?
That one is still somewhat fresh, it likes to reopen every so often. You should've seen it a year ago,
it was swallowing everything.
Your eyes have brightened, you have the look of a hunter that just found it's mark. Well, "friend" you'll be sorely disappointed.
There's no dark secret, no life ruining skeleton laying in this grave, just my blood from a shattered heart and the faded ghost of a baby I almost had.
It's there because someone I loved decided committing was to scary and I'm the one who had to pay the consequences. Lovely how that works.
Ah, stranger, you seem crestfallen and disappointed, do I also detect some confusion?
Let me explain. You approached me with the guise of friendship when you're really looking for someone to harm, someone to blame for your mistakes, someone to shame,
had you shown up sooner you would have succeeded.
But now, I've come to far. Of course I have secrets, of course I'm damaged and have shadows and skeletons of my own. The difference is that I'm not ashamed of them. Because it means that I'm human, I'm living and I'm caring. So you have no power over me.
Now, please leave, continue down the road, get out of my mind. I see your skeletons catching up to you, better run fast before they come and bury you.
Good luck

Hello! Your poem caught my eye when I checked the Green Room, so I decided to check it out.
I love the casual tone of the piece. It's a cool idea to have the narrator speaking directly to and interacting with us as though we're a character in the story too. It feels much more engaging that way. The opening line alone is very striking.
I also enjoy the point the poem is trying to convey. The "reader" is ignoring their own pain for selfish reasons, but the narrator immediately catches on. They draw the reader in with superfluous descriptions of the cemetery, and the secrets supposedly hidden in it. Only to call them out on their bull. There's a humorous touch over the dramatic tension.
Very compelling! Good job
Hi Firespy!
I am here to read and review your work!
I really enjoyed your opening. I can also see how this could represent you meeting someone new and getting to know them.
Now we get into the thick of it. This is relationship, no matter what type. Someone learning your history, your pain, the things that have made up your life and guided you to become the person you are.
And then there is trauma. Trauma they caused or contributed to. The mostly present, the things we try to forgive but never forget because they haunt us.
And now you have seen and know, who it is that is true and who is false. They thought they could flicker in and out of your life like a candle and you would still shield their flame so they didn't go out.
But you're done being shelter for those that leave you empty.
A very emotionally compelling poem. I can feel with the writer as they move from one to the next. Thank you for sharing with us!
