Soulmate

In Poems

I spoke about you tonight for the first time in a while.

I didn't say your name, I couldn't.

On my way home, I realized that the one thing

I'd always wondered about was true.

You are lost, broken, alcohol is your home.

Why wouldn't you let me help?

You are no longer in my life,

I don't think it's because of what I might have done wrong or right.

It's just the way of life,

Another lesson I needed to learn.

If I keep hanging on to your memory

If I keep hoping to meet you again,

I'll just keep hurting myself.

It's time to let you go,

Time to start letting the memory of your eyes,

Your face, the memory of you, fade.

Before I say goodbye,

I want to say "Thank you"

You helped me grow, you helped me change.

So, for that, the happiness, the beauty, the mystery

And the fire you brought into my life,

Thank you.

I hope your path gets brighter,

I hope your burdens get lighter,

I hope you find your soulmate,

I hope the very best for you.

As time goes on and you forget me,

While time heals my pain

The scars stay embedded in my bones,

I'll still love you. Even if it changes,

It won't stop.

It's time. Time for me to release these words

Into the night sky. I pray that somehow they'll reach you.

I have a strange new path to explore, so I have to go.

So,

To my soulmate;

Thank you.

I love you.

Goodbye.

Hello!!

Just wanted to say that this is absolutely beautiful and I'm glad to have read it. It almost makes me cry because it is truly and unbelievably deep in a story. I can't say it's relatable or anything but in a sense it makes a person think about what happened and the background to it. The poem pieces together this broken person into something unexpected. Even though this lover hurt the person, they are still thankful for what was brought to them. The fact that the lover was still referred to as a soulmate is utterly beautiful and mind-bending. The realization of the toxicity was amazing, and the fact that they can get through and say goodbye although it hurts is breathtaking. It hurts to let someone go, even someone who you thought was your everything. Understanding that that person isn't right for you is everything in a toxic relationship. I love this poem because it explains the heartbreak and the understanding that it hurts but it is necessary to feel better.

Absolutely amazing!! This poem has made my day

You did excellent!!!!! Keep writing, you are extremely talented and you have a knack for invoking emotion through poems!

Hiya! This is Orabella here to give you a short review.

This is so sad! The ending really touched me. The last line just being the word goodbye? And that's right after an I love you? Why can't the just be together?!

I wonder what happened. But that's the mystery of poems. You don't always know what happened exactly, but it's not really about that. It's about the certain thing the poet is trying to express. I think usually it's a feeling. And you did a great job at conveying feelings in this.

Now, I've never loved someone romantically, but it must be hard to do that. To say goodbye. And again, I wonder why?

Sorry about the short length, and the overall sense of insincerity of my tone. I swear I am interested, but these days, it's hard to fit enough time to write a long review, and my shorter ones tend feel fake. I truly love this poem, and I think it was really well written! Please keep writing amazing things like this!

Hi! First of all the poem is so heart touching and beautiful. You are super talented!
To the review:
1) The thing I loved the most was how much the poem is grounded to reality and reading it passed down wonderful emotions to me as a reader.
2) The part where the character talks of letting go of their past lover , the use of the word "Thank you", is very apt and beautiful in that place.
3) The concept of letting go as I was telling about earlier, is mellowed and easy flowing which makes it quite wholesome.
4)As someone who loves to read I have always found poems to be a little difficult to understand if complex. So it was quite refreshing to read such a simple poem which passed on the idea very well. Makes me wish I could let go of my crush so easily lol!

Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.
