"Talk about it."
"Don't talk about it."
"Everyone heals and processes differently"
"Why do you talk about it?"
I've lost track of how many times all of that has been said.
Doesn't matter what I do, the end result is the same.
I'm left feeling like no one believes me.
Is it because I don't hate them?
Why should I?
I still feel his weight on top of me,
feel the crushing waves of blackening agony and terror.
I still see the cruelty of his eyes,
hear the harsh, grating coldness of his voice,
I still get sick every time I think of it.
The hate and rage rise so strong I choke.
I'm not playing the victim,
I'm not lying.
Tell me though,
What will hating all men do?
That's not the answer.
That's not how I want to heal.
Why is that wrong?

Ah! I don’t usually critique poetry but I’m glad I read this one because the descriptions are raw. The tone and little tidbits sprinkled in gave the reader just enough information to show us the character, real or not, was a victim of rape. And now they seem to be going through their trauma, piecing it together, deciding whom to hate. All men or just the abuser that commit the heinous crime?
Hi there @FireSpyGirl,
Mixed emotions, confused, helpless, grieving, you've created a work of art. The poem powerfully conveys the emotional weight and trauma experienced by the speaker, making the reader feel the same sense of confusion and helplessness that the speaker is going through.
Despite the struggles described in the poem, the refusal to hate all men and the determination to find your own path to healing and wholeness is deeply inspiring.
The vivid descriptions in the poem add a layer of depth and richness to the poem.
Your title seems fine, but some alternative title suggestions:
- Lost and Alone
- Trapped in Silence
- The Weight of Words
- Tangled in Emotions
Your poem is a powerful and thought-provoking exploration of trauma and healing leaving a lasting impact on people long after they have finished reading.
