A whisper, a breath,
A shadow, a shade,
A shape, a face,
That is history.
A gun, a sword,
A battle, a war,
Brother against Brother,
Families torn apart,
This was history.
War after War,
fight after fight,
People against people,
Race against race,
The Germans, The Jews,
The British, the patriots,
They made history.
The Revolutionary war,
The war of 1812,
The Civil war,
World war I and II,
The Spanish-American war,
History repeating itself.
The battle of Lexington,
Concord, Boston and
Valley forge,
The battle of Bull Run,
The Somme war,
Pearl Harbor,
Roosevelt in Santiago, Cuba.
History comes back.
Now here we sit,
Thinking it’s all over,
The world is at peace,
No more war.
How little we know,
There is always a war,
History has a way of repeating,
again and again.
We learn, but don’t retain,
We think, but don’t realize,
We shudder, but don’t care,
The sacrifices that have been made,
The lives taken, the pain that abounds,
The ones that lived, for whom
The horrors never cease,
Even in a dream.
Oh, The things we could learn,
If only we tried, or wanted,
The changes that might happen,
Alas, never will it come.
For history will always repeat itself,
all the battles, the places and races,
Will happen again.

A whisper, a breath,
A shadow, a shade, - The first two lines are the only "weak" spot in this. Not extremely weak, but could be improved, because they were loose concepts if you catch my drift.
But the rest of the poem speaks volumes and has a rythym unusually seen. A great topic too, so all-encompassing. Couldn't have pulled it off better. "We shudder, but don't care." It is just that we don't want to fight inner wars, if we don't have to -- until the outer world places us in one. Hard to take the world upon yourself if your environment seems slumbering
I totally agree with the message of this poem, and it really is written beautifully! Great job!
I love this poem! I completely agree with this statement. When on person makes a mistake, sees the problems it caused, it is likely this person won't do it again, right? But when it's people from long ago, that made a very large mistake, people of the presant times were not there to experience it firsthand, so making am mistake in their nieve minds would sort of be a, "why not?" It is significant with every battle that is listed, because every one of which is an example of a great conflict. Which specific ones will have different meanings, to different people. This truely gets everyone involved. Though different battles in different places, they all have someting in common. They are fought for a reason. Now a lot of the time, these are terrible reasons, considering fighting is a terrible solution to solving a problem when a debate or a disscussion will solve that for you, without any blood being spilt, I might add. But each one of these battles were recorded, and we know exactly what what war provoked them. You'd think the people would look back upon these wars, and try not to get into a simular situation. But unfortunaty, that does not happen. It seems a primary experience is the only way. Which it shouldn't have to be. Great poem, loved it! This definatly belongs in a book.
I think this is pretty good. I don't see an issue.
