A Desert In My Eyes

In Poems

I lay in my bed, staring at the ceiling

And I befriend the shadows, that dance on my wall.

I feel like I'm slipping, towards a greater unknown

An unknown that weeps, that plays with my scars.

I cannot sit and watch myself, fall upon the roses

Whose blood-red petals mock me, and whose thorns pierce my skin.

Time leaves me behind, and sorrow beckons me closer

leading me to a breakdown, coming I don't know when.

Tell me to change, and I'd say to you

If I could then I would, but I just don't know how.

They say that I'm broken, that I need to be fixed

A shattered glass menagerie, begging me give up.

They hold my hand, reciting store bought words of comfort

And all the while I smile, pretending to understand.

Every night, I force myself to sleep

Because tomorrow might be better, I could be worth something.

I don't want to be the one that runs, I want to stand and fight

But my will has disappeared, and at last my courage waned.

My tears have shriveled up, a desert in my eyes

Even when I want to cry, I cannot find the strength.

I posted a previous review, but it isn't shown here? Here's the rewritten version:
I really liked this poem. It was beautifully written. There was a very interesting use of word choice here, and I really admire it. I could relate to this poem, and it helped me better understand what the speaker was feeling. I didn't notice any grammar mistakes. Great job! The flow of the poem was remarkable.

Keep writing,
Nessa

PS I'd be great if you could check out my poem "A Lovely Toll"

The simple truth is that authors like making people squirm. If this weren't the case, all novels would be filled completely with cute bunnies having birthday parties.
