Sitting by the fire, you see a spark
That flings from the crackling bark.
You hear the whistling steam
That starts to blow and stream.
Smoke that seeps through your hearth
Is dark and thickly trailing from birth.
The coals are hot, bright, and dry,
The wood burns and starts to fry.
A figure dances in beautiful flames,
Its spirit far too mighty to claim.
But before it begins to retire,
All the flames start rising too dire!
The smacks and cracks make ash,
The drumming wood starts to crash.
Then the inferno slowly fades out...
But indomitable coals still glimmer about.

Hello RubyRed thanks for leaving a comment in my poem. I looked into your portfolio and you have pretty good stuff in there I read some of your poems and it looks like you are a talented poet. I m not really good in writing poetry myself however I enjoy reading it.
In regards to that and since today is a review day I will give you a brief review for this lovely poem since it was the one with the fewest comments in your portfolio.
First of all structurally your poem is perfect. The rhyming is excellent and your vocabulary is simple and beautiful.
I don't really have much to say. Your theme is fire, literally and the way you described it in this poem i beyond compare I don't think you could have done it better.
There is great use of imagery in your poem and as I was reading it I actually felt like I was sitting next to a fireplace.
My favorite verses were the following:
"Smoke that seeps through your hearth
Is dark and thickly trailing from birth."
and
"A figure dances in beautiful flames,
Its spirit far too mighty to claim."
(However here you could use "flame" instead of "flames" to rhyme better but that's just my opinion)
The only recommendation I have for you in this particular poem is that since your theme is fire you could benefit from the use of some symbolism or simile to make your poem stronger.
Keep up the good work!
Greetings,
I really like this poem. It speaks to a wonder in all of us how something that isn't alive can have such spirit in it. It almost seems to have a life all its own. I can remember the last time that I was entranced by a fire, a fire to roast marshmallows on a camping trip.
I was disappointed that you only addressed two of the senses when you were describing the fire. What about the heat from it? What about the smoky scent of it? Yes fire draws out eyes to it, but it can also entice us with more than just its dance.
I had a hard time with the tempo of the poem. Though it is really good, it felt like each stanza (Two lines of rhyming last words) had their own beat that they were trying to have. I would say that the flow is the only thing that I would suggest some work on with this piece.
It is a beautiful piece of writing, much like the object that it is named after. I really enjoyed it an hope that you will continue to share more of them with us.
Happy Writing!
Thanks, Swordsman. I'm glad you liked it. I really did want to add senses to this but I was afraid no one would read something that long.
I always have the belief that if you feel that it needs something more then so will the readers. If you wouldn't read it then neither will anyone else. A poem is only "too long" when the person does not enjoy what they are reading. Food for thought.
Okay, thanks. I'll try to add something then.
Hey!

I really enjoyed this poem so I thought I'd give a review! I really hope this is helpful
Story:
You (the reader, I'm guessing) is sitting by a fire and describing what they are seeing. This might have a deeper meaning to it that I have not caught onto.
Title:
I think the title fits it because it's about a fire
Grammar/Punctuation/Confusing Sentences:
The grammar and punctuation was perfectly fine, if not ideal! Also there were not sentences that I found confusing.
Relate-ibility factor:
I mean I've seen fires too xD
Summary:
Overall I really, really liked this poem. I think once and awhile you should write a praise review if the work deserves it and I think this poem does deserve it, so kudos to you! I just really love the rhyming and the imagery. I like the words you used, especially inferno, it's one of my favorite words. Just really enjoyed this work xD
Okay so yeah that was probably not so helpful. Sorry. I wanted to write a review but I just really liked it and...ugh ;-;

Thanks, Alice, I'm glad it was worth while. It was helpful because it was encouraging.
