This is how to wake up early
With sugar and caffeine dripping down our throats
Untied shoelaces dragging across the tile.
This is how to paint a smile
How to shape and form, how to mess up your hair
To make it look like you didn’t just roll out of bed.
This is how to cram down that reading
Those notes due by the end of second block
Plug in facts about the Civil War, and the digestive system.
This is how to prepare for the big game
On silent bus rides to, and barbaric bus rides from,
With golden sunshine, sweaty foreheads, aching feet.
This is how to procrastinate,
With noises flooding through household airwaves
And endless activities sitting on our palms.
This is how to flunk a math test,
To forget how to plot a residual, find the square root,
Scribble down a few equations, hope for the best,
I need at least a 73 on the final to pass the class.
This is how to freshman,
A bit lost, a bit scared, a bit too short to make it through 4 corners
How to grab onto that seniors backpack.
This is how to prom
With over the top dresses,
Makeup smeared on our skin, flowers on our bracelets.
This is how to graduate
To know the war is over, the battles fought,
To cry, to smile, to laugh at the memories,
And move on forward, to the rest of our lives,
Nostalgic, but we’ll be fine.

Hey there! It's ZeldaIsShiek here to review another quintessential piece of literature that made my day and win this Review Day by helping the Red Pandas stay in first place and reaching my goal of 80 reviews. I might even get to 100, if I work hard enough. I am really excited to review this amazing piece of art that you have created, and maybe add some witty humor as well. Anyway, that's enough idle chatter from me. Let's get into the review.

This is how to cram down that reading
Those notes due by the end of second block
People tend to procrastinate until the end.

I have tried many times to write a pome about highschool, but none of them have been like this. What I mean is, this poem goes more in depth with the highschool experience, and how a student lives his/her life during their years of highschool. And how over our highschool years we change from nervous to proud, and ready for this life experience to end and a new one to start. I like/love how you have the life of a 9th grader, who becomes a football player, and how you start the poem with the person waking up and ending with the person graduating. Great job!! 8/10.
~Cheers
The poem very effectively describes the experience of going through high-school. It is an experience that hose who drop out never have and which many regret never having had because they consider it an essential part of growing up. So even though it might seem like a hassle when it is happening, it provides cherished memories which will also be treasured.
The read was very pleasurable because it presents so many scenarios one after another and one can stop and ponder each one briefly. This provides the poem with the admirable potential to engender different emotions based on the memories which the images elicit from the reader.

Legacy here for a review.
I like it alot. You have some subtle rhymes which is great. I would love to hear this read, as reading it is a different medium than writing. I do like your concept and I believe that if read well could really affect the people in the audience. If you are wanting to keep it as a written poem, I would recommend making stanzas each time you state "this is how ...." that you repeat many times through out the poem. Legacy out.
This is true. All of it, although it seems more like college to me
Hey, EKK15. I can honestly say that I wasn't expecting a poem as this one. I actually enjoyed reading your piece because it's easily relatable. I like how you describedprocrastination because I've definitely done it a few times, but haven't we all? I also like the ending lines you have here. I think you painted a good picture in the reader's mind of high school. And for most, high school is really like this and even more sometimes. And if you go to college, college is kind of similar to high school, except there's debt. But you are also working toward your goals to a career and whatnot. Anyway, great job. I hope to see more work from you soon again.
