All those broken promises, all those dirty lies
I'm looking high and I'm looking low
I'm asking a million questions but finding no answers
What is a promise that it should be broken?
What is hope that it should be so faint?
What is love that it should be so heartless?
I've been told that humanity is nothing more then wind tossed dust,
But I know humanity is nothing more then a tender flower.
I've felt the hurt of loss in my heart, and I've felt the agony of turmoil in my soul
And I know somewhere in the heart of man lies human spirit.
All those broken promises, all those dirty lies
I'm gazing in the horizon and I'm studying your face
I'm asking a million questions but finding no answers
What is man that he should break one another's heart?
What is man that he should call himself a vision when he is blind?
Who are you that you should call me your beloved and tear my heart to pieces?
All those broken promises, all those dirty lies
I'm searching far, and I'm searching wide
I'm asking a million questions but finding no answers
How could I have been so blind?
Love is only human, and so am I, but what of broken promises?
Is it human to break promises of love or am I sorely mistaken as to what love is?
Or are you a monster somewhere deep in your soul?
I could wait for you forever, but you walked away from my happily ever after.
Why does my heart still yearn for you, when you broke it?
Why do I still cry, when you never shed a tear for me?
Why do broken promises hurt so much?

Hey, there! Beautiful writing. Your talent and creativity give this poem a nice feel. I really liked how you employed the repetition of:
"All those broken promises, all those dirty lies
I'm searching far, and I'm searching wide,
I'm asking a million questions but finding no answers."
To me, the way you repeatedly come back to this shows the narrator gong through agonizing circles in her brain as she tries to analyze a painful situation. It also keeps on bringing the reader back to the central concept of this poem.
As far as constructive criticism, not many mistakes caught my attention, However, one thing I noticed was your incorrect use of the word "then" where it should be "than." For example, in these lines:
"I've been told that humanity is nothing more then wind tossed dust,
But I know humanity is nothing more then a tender flower."
As far as I know, this is actually the only place where this mistake occurs.
Also, in my personal opinion, I think it would sound better to find another word to replace "but" in the beginning of that second line there. It's not bad, but it makes it sound like line 2 is a contrasting thought to line 1, whereas I would personally identify them as parallel thoughts to one another. So maybe you could use the word "and" instead. Just a suggestion, though. The poem is still beautiful even if you don't change that.
And by the way, a person is not wrong to expect more out of love than broken promises. No one should ever lower their standards to settle for a so-called lover who breaks a heart without regret. That is not true love. There is such thing as real love, and real love will never intentionally do that to another person. So there's my two cents.
Keep up the good work with your writing!
This poem is painful to read, in a good way. The speaker's despair and emotional agony are clearly conveyed. I found the line "what is man that he should break another's heart" incredibly compelling, even more than the rest. I'm not quite sure why, exactly...But broken love is the worst experience ever, that's for certain. Please do keep writing.^^
Thank you
The poetry is good but Love Is patient and kind,Love is does not brag,Love does not behave indecently,Love does not look for its own interests,Love does not become provoked,it does not keep account of the injury.Love does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth,it bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.THAT IS LOVE!
Hi EverLight,
This poem really gives away the feeling that the poet is in profound pain and loss of trust in the person she once loved.
I loved how you began, at first questioning humanity in general, and then rolling off to question this person, who broke the poet's heart, and also the self doubt, if the poet really knows what love really is!
The whole poem has such an amazing flow to the trail of thoughts and i just loved the repeation of "All those broken promises, all those dirty lies" It just blends so well throughout the poem and also reminds us the disappointment the poet is facing with promises being fragile and broken.
Also, a quick question, 'agony of turmoil' , which you used in line 9, i am not sure if both of these strong words blend together, but in any case gives off a very powerful negative emotion which the poet wants to express.
Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you
