I'm an Ignoramous

In Poetry

I'm trying to write a poem,

about how I'm an ignoramous.

I guess there's just something about you

That makes me act incredibly stupid.

-

Is it the butterflies in my chest?

Or maybe that you'll never like me,

so I have nothing to lose.

Your eyes just melt my heart...

and my brain apparently.

-

You are so confusing,

Or maybe I'm just simple minded,

"Omg you're so hot" one minute

"I WOULD like you, but I have a gf" The next.

-

I'm an ignoramous.

I dont see what makes me so hot,

or why you WOULD like me

but yet, you don't.

-

So I'm writing this poem

because I'm an ignoramous.

And other than famous,

nothing rhymes with ignoramous.

So I'm just gonna go.

... Goodbye

Hi there, defyingravity!

I don't know if you intended this poem to be hilarious, but it was. It perfectly conveys the awkwardness that follows an unrequited crush on a friend.

That being said, I have a few suggestions that might make it even better.

1) Exaggerate.
Your title labels the narrator an ignoramus, which is a bold move-- make the rest of the poem match the title in boldness. Don't mention even that the other might think that the narrator is attractive-- play on the awkwardness of youth. It will be grand. Also, don't let yourself write that the other person is confusing-- make the narrator say that he/she/xe is confused. Make it the only thing there.

2) Look at your punctuation/format.
You have some words in all caps, when really they should be in italics because they're not being yelled, but exaggerated in the speech of the other person. Also, I'd remove the ellipsis before the final word of the poem. I'm not a fan of them, and I don't think this one really adds anything to the poem. If you would like a pause there, add a dash to the end of the preceding line. Make sure it's an em dash and not a hyphen, though. The first part of your poem seems to be in a bigger font than the rest of it. Weird.

3) Watch out for cliches.
The butterflies line isn't quite a cliche, as it usually involves butterflies inhabiting the stomach rather than the chest, but it's close enough that it should be changed. Figure out another way to describe the fluttery feeling in your abdomen.

Altogether, this is nice, but still needs a little polishing. I hope that this review proves helpful to you. Have fun writing, and happy fahrvergnügen!

I like the last four lines... lol. What does ignoramous mean by the way... I love the description in the second stanza, it totally relates to how I feel when I see MY crush...

I love this so much, you should do more! It's so beautiful, and in a way, funny... I read this while relating it my life, and I laughed... I guess that is sort of sad, but still... Did you base this off of your life? Just wondering.

Yes this was based off of my life. Ignoramous means someone who is ignorant or stupid. Its a synonym to an idiot. I'm glad you could relate!

Hello!
Harsh title, but I do lke the way this is written. To start, I thought the change in font was due to a technical error, but then I came to realise that it was actually deliberate.
'So I'm writing this poem

because I'm an ignoramous. ' Why you are saying this - apart from comic effect- I do not understand. But it doesn't really hamper the effect of the work.
Especially when you say this as well:
'And other than famous,

nothing rhymes with ignoramous.

So I'm just gonna go.

... Goodbye '
Because this is a very funny work and the honesty present is what makes it comical.

You have some interesting ideas Mr Ignoramous. Well done.
Keep writing.

Miss Ignoramous, actually, thanks!

Sounds a bit dark. It also sounds like you are chasing something that cannot be caught. This poem has a bit of a sad twist to it that makes me think that the writer has strange, obsessive thoughts, though that could be far from the case.

Love is friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving. It is loyalty through good and bad times. It settles for less than perfection and makes allowances for human weaknesses.
