I Wanted

In Poetry

I wanted to write a poem,
But the words were all wrong.
I wanted to write a poem,
But it turned into a song.

I wanted to write a poem,
But I couldn't make it rhyme,
I wanted to write a poem,
But I didn't have enough time.

I wanted to write a poem,
But I didn't add any detail;
I wanted to write a poem,
But I was a fairyless tale.

I wanted to write a poem,
But you're too perfect to say.
I wanted to write a poem,
But I don't know the way.

I wanted to write a poem,
But I had too many excuses.
I wanted to write a poem,
But I lost my creative juices.

I wanted to write a poem,
But it all came out all mushy.
I wanted to write a poem,
But I couldn't be gushy.

I wanted to write a poem-
For you.
And so,

I did.

Ah, how more perfectly true can a poem about writing poems get. I've felt this way before. poem writing can be hard. I'll have times when I want to write poem for months about a certain subject and nothing comes, then one day within minutes I have it written down.

I wanted to write a poem-
For you.
And so,

I did.

That is sometimes how you have to feel to end up writing anything. Sometimes it just comes out of a desperate want. That happens in story-writing as well. Anyway, back on the poem. Very well written, and all your rhyming fits in time perfectly.
Keep it up!

Thank you!
And don't we all have that wanting to write but can't?

Hello hello, it is the great pandabear7 here to do you a review. Firstly, I love the poem. It flowed really well together, also I like the fact you used repetition. :) My favorite part was the end where it says, "I wanted to write a poem- for you. And so, I did." Lol although it doesn't exactly rhyme I still liked it very much so. I hope you keep up the wonderful writing!

Sincerely,

Hey cailey!
I'm hanorah and ill be reviewing your poem today ;)

First of all, I want to say I really liked your poem, nice job! I loved the repetition of 'i wanted to write a poem'

Overall, the flow was good, but in the third stanza it stopped and then flowed well again after it, 'detail' and 'tale didn't do it for me, it didn't sound right.

Apart from that it was good ;) nice work , 9/10
~keep writing

Hiya! Review for ya!

I like this, and think it's very creative, the reason being that we all experience writer's block, and everyone on this site can probably relate to a time when this is exactly what they were feeling. I really like the way that the poem progressively gets less sophisticated as it goes on, showing the increasing depth of the writer's block, and then slams the reader with the last three lines. Beautiful! The only criticism I have for u is probably your choice of words. While this is a poem about writers block itself, I think that you may need to execute the rhymes a little better, but for a nice enjoyable read, it's fantastic! Way to go!

Thank you. Yeah, writer's block is always great, isn't it?

Indeed it is hahaha

Hi!

I wanted to do a review,
But I didn't know where to start.
I wanted to write a review,
But it turned out much too hard.

=D How I did? Well, first up, you can see that I LOVED the poem, right? If you can't, then I LOVED the poem. As you can see, it's hard for me to write a review when I LOVED the piece. But I'll start.

I loved the way you make this poem flow! It has a very determined rhythm. I have always loved a rhyming poem. When a poem rhymes, it's something I can read and enjoy. The punctuation marks are written at the right place, time and location. Punctuation is important in all literally works. It's good that you know how to place them!

"I wanted to write a poem,
But you're too perfect to say.
I wanted to write a poem,
But I don't know the way."

This is my favorite stanza. I love the flow and the way it sounds. You take this stanza to the next level! =D Rock on!

I really liked this poem and I would love to read more from you! Keep writing!

Keep up the good work! ;)

I like the irony, and I do admit, you do touch on a big cliche at the end. I think that personally, you should have wrapped it up humorously, getting stranger and stranger as you approached the end, but that's just my take. Its very square and formatted tidily, which is a good thing. the words match and fit quite tightly which is a job well done.

I really think the end is a bit mustard.

I wanted to write a poem-
For you.
And so,

I did.

Firstly you completely break your rhythm which in a way is a good way to put a full stop to a poem, but the space between and so and I did is really not needed. The "for you" is irrelevant to the whole rest of the poem and its not really for the person untill you say that right at the end. i feel this would have been more effective as something fun than how you ended this. Sorry if this critique came across a little harsh and I understand it was very opinionated, but good job and keep writing.

No worries, I myself didn't like this poem so much, so I would have been just as harsh reviewing it for myself. :)
A bit mustard? Haja!
Hopefully some day I'll get around to fixing this up some more.
Anyway, thanks for the review!

I don't know why but the word mustard just sounded a fitting way to describe it...

Fair enough. :D

By the way, nice job with all those reviews! (And I thought I had no life...)

Helloo! newcomer AnimeLover13 here to give you a review!

All I have to say is
Oh...my....gosh...that was so beautiful T^T it had meaning! it feelings! you made it from the heart!

I absolutely LOVE this poem! it spoke to me a lot and honestly it nearly brought me to tears. I loved the "I wanted to write a poem,
But I didn't add any detail;
I wanted to write a poem,
But I was a fairyless tale." part.

It was nice and sweet, I could feel the creativeness coming from the poem when I read it!

I'd honestly give it a 8 out of 10 stars! keep up the good work! ^^

The first verse was pretty interesting to be honest.

The whole poem kind of inspired me really makes me want to write a poem of my own some day I know I said it once but I'm gonna say it again.

I ABSOLUTELY love this poem! made me want to read it over a few times really!

Hey Cailey! So I'm a pretty tough reviewer of poetry, and a pretty tough reviewer of romantic genres, so this will probably be a very critical review.

The repetition is a bit of a mind-cramp in the way that it grows tedious and numbs the reader's desire to ACTUALLY read each and every word (after all, we know what they're going to be, so eventually our minds just skip over to the one part of the line we don't know yet). I would advise breaking away from this kind of structure when writing poetry, because it can really weaken your writing and stifle your creativity.

Beyond that, you just fail to truly evoke any emotion. It feels generic and maudlin. Nothing really develops. It is like reading a fluff novel and thinking it's cute but not really getting anything from it; and for some readers, these puff pieces are altogether unbearable.

While this was by no means a terrible poem, it failed to come off as memorable. Remember to really solidify a concept before you write, so that you can keep building on that idea and have a well-rounded piece. This cohesive idea will also allow you to be more original and to find your unique voice.

I hope this helps. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to

Hello, I'm EmoChikXoX and I'm going to review your poem! :)

This is actually a rather nice poem, it flows nicely. I like all the verses apart from the 6th one, I don't really like the words that you have used. "mushy" and "gushy" they don't quite fit into a poem of this.. quality to be honest. I think you could have used nicer words. Like maybe "hushed" and "rushed" if you still wanted to go along with that type of rhyming..

The last verse is rather good though! It ends the poem on a rather short, sweet note. It finishes the poem on a good note :)

Anyway keep posting! :)

This is actually REALLY good. Probably one of the best poems I've read on this sight so far (and that hasn' t been many). It was romantic, but not overly so and made me feel happy :) My favorite line was: “but I was a fairyless tale". Very original. It was an incredibly sweet poem so I hate to say anything critical about it, but I'm trying to be helpful so I must.

These are the lines I had problems with:

“But I didn't have enough time."

This line sounded off when put with the rest of the verse. I know you were trying to make it rhyme, but the way you phrased it made time sound really off. Maybe you could try: But there was no time or But I had no time. They're not as wordy and don't sound so chunky.

“I wanted to write a poem,
But I had too many excuses,
I wanted to write a poem,
But I lost my creative juices."

This sounds odd because creative juices just doesn't fit. Maybe you could find something else to rhyme it with or change the verse altogether.

And finally, most readers get perturbed when you put sentences at the end of the line (I do the same thing) because they take it to mean a pause in the reading, and so many orchestrated “stops and starts" can take away from the overall effect of the poem.

Don't take all this criticism as a bad thing! This was an awesome poem, and these are all just suggestions :) Keep on writing down all the amazing stuff that comes out of your head!
