How to react?
Should it be a flood of emotions
in the catacombs
of my psyche?
Should these apparent notions
and thoughts equate
to maturity?
I feel not the
great breach
in the dam of my innocence.
I fear not the
forthcoming wave
of drunkenness, drugs and nonsense.
I am but
the same, and to say so brave.
Time has
loopholes that gape
into the abyss of our hindsight.
Now I
shall catch one, too quick,
and bask in the shedding light.
Time is harsh,
unless you realize it’s passing.
And then, the greatest gift
of all.

This is one of my favourite works of yours, maybe just because I can relate too much to it. Ive tried writing stuff on the same concept of coming of age, turning into a "man" but you really did it justice. It showcases the feelings of uncertainty as you approach this "huge milestone" in your life which you conveyed perfectly. Well done man, this is fantastic.

As someone who has recently turned 18 myself, I definitely relate to the uncertainty of how you should react to suddenly becoming an adult--you expect to feel different somehow, and in some ways you do, but mostly you just feel the same. It's quite confusing, really.
I really liked the structure of the poem. It flows nicely, and the enjambment in each stanza allows one idea to flow into another, creating a steady stream of consciousness. Great imagery as well--"Time has loopholes that gape/into the abyss of our hindsight," for example, is a very powerful image that really resonates with the reader. Personifying Time in the last stanza was a nice touch--it summed up the poem and its overall theme nicely, and it really gets the reader thinking.
Overall, wonderful poem. Great job.
Thank you Julia
Hi!!
I really enjoy this because when I turned 18 becoming an adult was the last thing on my mind. I haven't changed even at 23 and I don't know if that's a good thing or not, but I enjoy being myself and not being tempter to give in to societies demands and what they think an adult is.
Bravo young soul, beautiful work,
