A Choice.

In Poetry

A Choice.

A choice between knives and pens.

The difference between life and death.

When the knife leads a razor blade symphony,

that promises everything I want to be.

But behind the door

marked by a pen,

lays music, poetry,

and almost every written reason,

to keep on breathing.

The plight that followed my choice,

haunts me no more.

Trapped on the previous page,

right next to the knife.

Given no say,

as I pick up this pen

and write my self onto the next page.

If demons could pray,

my prayer would be

for this to not just be a phase.

Moving on from the sleepless nights.

The comments the angel said,

that made me want to cry.

Because I'm better now,

a stronger devil

coming to life through the words,

written upon this page.

The space where the knife used to lay,

now occupied by poetry.

Hello CapitalMonday here for a review. I would like to begin is that poem is amazing in its own self and how the tone of the voice transfer into something greater. This poem is like something a professional would write and you, my friend, are an amazing person that is like an professional. i think someone or anyone, in this matter, have been in this time of period where you have no idea what to do next, after feeling sad or mad. You try to cut but then the cutting is just gone also how writing can be used instead of cutting. My friend used to cut and now she is writing stores (fanfictions) to help her ease off the idea of cutting and I help her out with these fanfictions/stories sometimes and sometimes she tells me she wants to cut. I just hand her a pen and paper then she writes.

The tone of voice travels down a river, starting at the highest point and making it way down to the end and I believe that this poem has a wonderful tone since you start out by saying what should i do next? then at the end you figured out that you replaced cutting with writing.

Sorry for the ramble,
CapitalMonday

There is some incredibly powerful imagery here. The idea of the choice betewwn an end and the outlet of literature is a very powerful one, and in my opinion, you executed it quite well.
9/10 Keep writing!

This is a pretty powerful poem. It's pretty good. Its also really inspirational.

I really like this part
" If demons could pray,

my prayer would be

for this to not just be a phase.

Moving on from the sleepless nights.

The comments the angel said,

that made me want to cry.

Because I'm better now,

a stronger devil"

I think that it symbolizes a lot and that's pretty cool. I can tell that this has a lot of emotions. I'm not really one to nitpick much so I won't. (Also this poem reminds me of a song called "Knives and Pens" were you trying to convey that?)

YESS thank you for seeing that I love bvb

Hi there!
I've never heard of a pen and a knife compared before. I found that really gripping and I had to read more!

It seems to me that this poem is about life on the pages of a book? I liked the way you illustrated days as pages, some you got stuck on, some you wrote yourself on.

That's an amazing image. "Coming to life through the words". I also found it very empowering, getting better by using a pen to better yourself instead of a knife to hurt yourself.

I like the way your mind works. XD

Thanks so much for sharing! And by the way, I like your profile picture! :3

This is an interesting poem, as are the rest that I have read from you! There were a few errors in spelling, but there were not many; you spelled "angel" as "angle", and you didn't capitalize "I'm" in one of the ending lines. Other than that, I didn't notice any real problems so far as spelling and grammar. Now, onto the actual poem!

I like the contrast between the pen and the knife, and how you show the difference between the effects you get from both of them. For someone who is currently going through my own recovery, this poem has a personal effect on me. This very clearly paints a picture of a person who is trying desperately to fix themselves and to heal, but also wants to take the easy path with the knife, something that is familiar. The ending line is also very powerful, showing that you've taken the knife away completely and exchanged it with something more productive (poetry).

All in all, this was a good poem. I give it a 9/10. Keep on writing!

Thank you. I went ahead and fixed the errors you pointed out.
