Hello good people of Storybook town!

Today I come to you with some very exciting news - we have added 12 Storybook badges for you to earn!

What do these badges look like?

Well they're shiny of course and badge-y and they look like these:

Oooh shiny! How do I get one?
Spoiler! :
If you want a badge, you need to be given a storybook challenge which you can then complete to earn a number of adventurer credits. These challenges will be issued by storybook owners or participants to revive or encourage movement in a storybook. There will also be a Captain's Challenge every month which can be completed for any storybook and is open to all.

For example, I might challenge someone in my storybook to have their character reveal a secret to character x within three posts. I would do this by posting in this thread and tagging the challenged adventurer. They would then gain 1-3 credits upon successful completion.

Who can issue a challenge?
Spoiler! :
Anyone who is the storybook owner or has a Novice rank or higher and is participating in the storybook may issue a challenge.

What must a challenge require?
Spoiler! :
To be a valid challenge it needs to require the challenged adventurer to make at least one additional post in the storybook and it can offer no more than 6 adventurer credits as a reward. Occasionally there will be official challenges issued which will allow more credits to be earned for a single challenge.

I've got enough adventurer credits for a badge... how do I claim it?
Spoiler! :
Simply make a post in this thread and a moderator will be along to verify your credits and award you with the badge.

Can I earn points from my own challenges?
Spoiler! :
Well I don't see why not. You're also putting in the effort to make a post and do the extra challenges, right? Now, if you're making easy challenges just to earn points... well *gives a stern look*

Who gives out the points? Can I use them for anything else and can they be obtained by anything other than these Challenges?
Spoiler! :
The Storybook Crew gives out the points once either you say in this thread that you've finished a challenge or we see that you have. And, these points are just for this challenge! They're made up and the only other way the SB Crew will award points will be through Captain's Challenges, Storybook Workshops, or other events!

Falling Down the Mineshaft
Arc I: I'm In A Cube Land

Image

Challenged Adventurer(s)

@Magestorrow, @SkyeWalker, @AlexOfLight, and @RaidenCheese.

The Challenge

The goal of the first challenge is to introduce our characters and get them a little more acquainted with their new world - and appearances. Most of the introduction's style lies in your hands, but there's some features that would be awesome to see in your first post. Seeing their life before ending up in Minecraft, adjusting to their new skin, trying to figure out what's going on - these are just some of the things that you might want to include in your first post.

Completion Time

July 10th, 2019

Credits Awarded

You can get one point for posting, and another point if your post is over 500 words. You can get one point for doing each of these following things in your post, for a grand total of four points:

1. Have your character interact with someone else's character.
2. Include a section involving the character's regular life.
3. Describe your character's reaction to suddenly being their skin.
4. Describe your character's plan for what they're going to do now that they're in Minecraft.

You can get up to six points from this challenge!
“You cannot get through a single day
without having an impact on
the world around you.

What you do makes a difference,
and you have to decide what kind
of difference you want to make.”

Due to your impressive display on the initiation battlefield, there will also be special opportunities for off-site missions, usually only reserved for second year or higher students.

Each class is worth one point for everyone involved.

  1. Amaranth: Amaranth has been haunted by her family for years, but now she feels like she's seeing them everywhere. She hopes her teammates can't hear her whimpers in her sleep. Plus, someone from her childhood comes to visit, but she's not sure if she can call them friend or foe. Midori and Amaranth are partnered up for the class assignment.
  2. Reese: Reese has just accepted this dangerous job from that mysterious woman. He must look into these loose strands that he was given as he begins what is arguably the most difficult job he's had: Break into Atlas. Reese passes Claret as he meets with Mauve. They hit it off, and Reese says he's a new recruit but had disciplinary action, so they ordered him to take care of Mauve. They hit it off fairly well.
  3. Rioghail: Diamond reveals that she has a wound from initiation, and suddenly the pair finds their situations reversed from earlier. How does Rioghail deal with this?
  4. Night: Night and Valerian finally ending up sitting down together to work on the assignment... the night before it's due. This frustrates Valerian, but he keeps his cool. How does Valerian keep Night in the team, and does Night even want to stay?
  5. Claret: Claret is saved by Azure, and Azure’s actual plans are revealed. How does Claret react to this?
  6. Midori: New class, this time it's weapon practicum. Midori doesn't have a weapon. Amaranth picks her up metaphorically and says "hey even though you don't have a weapon anymore, we can still train." The post ends with Professor Ozpin coming to ask Midori some questions.
  7. Valerian: Interactions between all of team VRDN and their fighting tactics. This is the first time the entire team is together and Valerian has trouble getting Night to commit. What he doesn’t expect, though, is that Diamond backs Night up.
  8. Topaz: Topaz has been much a mystery here, as she has been in her own life. However, one thing has remained consistent: She has strayed back to Menagerie for reasons unknown to her. She has been seeking answers, and the White Fang has approached her for a glimmer of hope: There is a miracle healer in Atlas that can cleanse people of their unwanted Semblences. That is her next move.
  9. Bleu: Bleu meets a member of a new team, and confides in Midori that he’s been feeling something new.
  10. Rhyence: They are in a new class, Introduction to Auras. Rhyence skips the class, though, to go research about Menagerie.
  11. Reese: Reese has managed to infiltrate the Atlesian military, and uses their archives to learn more about the mysterious woman who hired him. Mauve starts to get suspicious.
  12. Diamond: Diamond is practicing with Valerian. She's not a fan with this, as she hasn't confronted him about her problems with him. Then, all of a sudden, she backs into Rio and their auras ignite by touch. The class is hushed by this. Even the professor is shocked. Frustrated, Diamond leaves the classroom.

Captain's Challenge: Rainbows*
As Issued by Pirate Mage

Ahoy, mateys! I'll be taking over for Navigator @AstralHunter for June's Captain's Challenge. I can't promise that it'll live up to what he's concocted these past few months, but I'll certainly try my hand at it.

This month is pride month, and all good pirates love some diversity. To celebrate this month, and to promote inclusive storytelling, we're inviting you to raise your rainbow flags for June. You'll be able to get one credit for doing at least one of the following in your post for a total of four different posts - leading to a total of four credits from this challenge.

1. If one of your characters is queer, have them somehow reference it in their post, whether it's by coming out to another character, a fun little joke or a comment about being interested in someone in a way that shows they're not straight.

2. Include a pride flag in your post. This one is pretty straightforward, but don't be afraid to be creative with how you include that flag.

3. Have a queer NPC in your post. If you don't have any queer characters but want to show some representation, this option might be for you. They don't have to outwardly address their sexuality or gender identity, but an indicator of it would be useful.

(For example, a NPC can make a comment about a character of the same gender being attractive.)

4. Include an actual rainbow in your post. You can only use this option for one storybook post, but I couldn't miss the opportunity to add some actual rainbows into this. Like with the flag, don't be afraid to take some creative liberties with how you include that rainbow.

Good luck, pirates, and happy pride!

Spoiler! :

*Here's a random fun fact for you - the colors used here are a reference to the original pride flag, which had eight colors instead of the six colors we use in pride flags today.

Kingdom Hearts: The Storybook
Arc I: Arrival of Darkness

Image

The Challenge

The storybook has officially begun! Usually, my storybooks start with an introductory round of posts, but we're going to head straight into the action in this storybook. The goal of your post for this round is to cover all of the major plot points - I'll also go over them in the storybook's DT for posterity. You need to have your character going about their normal life, have their world get attacked by the Heartless, and have Levi pop up somehow. And, for a fun bonus for this round and any future rounds, you can include a reference to the canon games for an extra point!

Completion Time

July 16th, 2019

Credits Awarded

You can get one point for posting, and another point if your post is over seven hundred words. You can get one point for doing each of these following things in your post, for a grand total of four points:

1. Include your character going about their normal life.
2. Include the arrival of the Heartless and/or the destruction of their world.
3. Have Levi come up, either by your character seeing a boy who looks like he did when they last met at their world, or by them reminiscing about him.
4. Include a reference to the actual games. It can be a major or a small one, as long as you describe what that reference is when claiming your points.

You can get up to six points from this challenge!

@Magestorrow, I wish to claim a credit for completing the Captain's Chellenge! All right, so while my post linked below doesn't have my character actually referencing his sexuality in any of the three examples given, the majority thereof does consist of him thinking about how he finds each of the other new tenants of the apartment complex attractive. That includes the other two young men in the complex, and since it's therefore clear to the reader that he's queer, I believe that qualifies?

Captain's Challenge: Sailing the Seven Seas
As Issued by Pirate Mage

Ahoy, mateys!

Half of the year has already passed us by, but there's still a lot of the seven storybooking seas that remains unconquered. Your friendly neighborhood pirates are in desperate need of assistance to meet our seafaring quota by the end of the year - and every pirate knows that July is the best month to sail.

We don't require much help. We just need some extra hands on our decks, and possibly a new ship or two. But, with your assistance, we'll conquer these seas in no time at all!

We'll even give you a share of the treasure if you lend us your help.

You can get one credit per storybook post for a total of four times. Though we'd love for the posts to be from different storybooks, you're free to have the posts be from the same one.

We'll even give you one credit for creating a new storybook, and one credit for creating a storybook challenge.

In total, we're willing to give you up to six credits for helping us conquer the seven seas.

Good luck, fellow pirates, and thank ye for ye help!
