Life is Unexpected

In poetry

Just a poem I wrote when listening to confusing music XD

Life is unexpected,
With either pain or joy as its' consequences.
It's why people tried to tell me to be careful,
To not let my heart carelessly wander around.
But we were also taught to take a risk,
To dare trust every once in a blue moon.
And I  listened to that, thinking I'd figure it out,
Thinking I would know which roads are right to follow.

And yet, here I am, standing on this path,
not knowing whether to continue or to turn back.
I'm starting to get the feeling that I'm lost.
Tell me, should I be frustrated or content?
It's not that I regret taking this road,
Every little thing, whether painful or soothing,
Has given me a lifelong lesson.
It just feels like a rollercoaster with all the confusion.

I will find my way from here, I'm sure I'll figure it out.
But the question is: what will I lose here?
The burden or my heart?

Hi there. :) It's Whisperer here. This is the first one that I've reviewed sing a long time ago (xD) so... I hope I make sense. lol

Nitpicks:

Life is unexpected

- Seems cliché for me, and it also appears like it doesn't make sense. It feels like there is a blank between. What is it about life that's unexpected? Perhaps you meant 'unpredictable' or something.

With either pain or joy as its' consequences.

- Consequences of life? Hmm, it feels like it does make sense but it doesn't at the same time. Words seem to be missing. I'm getting confused. Perhaps (it's because of the confusing music xD) defining the word 'life' first can help. Did you really mean 'life' or 'living' or something else?

To dare trust every once in a blue moon.

- Grammatically speaking, that should be 'To dare to trust', I think. I also think that it can be accepted though.
- For me, the whole line really sounds poetic. :)

And I listened to that,

- Not really important but, you accidentally put two spaces between 'I' and 'listened'. Hehe. :)

Thinking I would know which roads are right to follow.

And yet, here I am, standing on this path,
not knowing whether to continue or to turn back.
I'm starting to get the feeling that I'm lost.
Tell me, should I be frustrated or content?
It's not that I regret taking this road,

- These lines feel like a song. :)
- I like the strength of the question (second to the last line). :)

Every little thing, whether painful or soothing,

- The word 'soothing' there didn't seem to fit well.

I will find my way from here, I'm sure I'll figure it out.

- Sounded like a song again. :)

But the question is: what will I lose here?
The burden or my heart?

- The second to the last line felt strong, but both of the two lines seemed confusing. I didn't seem to understand what was written fully before it came to these questions.

I think in this poem you've got a problem with your wording, specifically at the parts where I said it was confusing. It got better from the middle to the end though. :) Another thing that was bothering me is the confusion I'm feeling because of the persona seeming to be sure of herself and confused at the same time. I don't know if it's a bad thing for your poem though. Perhaps you really intended to write it that way.

Anyway, I think the poem in general is good. :) You seemed to know where you were going with it. There were just some parts that troubled me because of the wording.

(lol I hope I didn't use so much smileys and that this whole review isn't too long. xD)

Never stop writing! :D

Thank you for this helpful review! =D

fun fact i hear my evil twin once wrote a story about a hacker who used the name fyshi33k bc there are 33k-ish species of fish and she liked phishing so fyshi-33k made sense but then she got super embarrassed when someone forced her to explain
