Roses

In Poetry

Roses will live and bud into beauty,
But they would only bloom because it’s their duty.

If a rose wanted something else to represent
They just didn’t want to be pretty, they didn’t want their lovely scent.

There’s nothing a rose can do as its thorns are clipped,
And it’s given away, its dignity stripped.

What’s a rose to think when it longs for something else?
When it’s down in the dumps, not loving itself.

What’s a rose to do when it’s lying dying on the floor?
Stuffed in the trash can, not loved anymore.

When love is dead, the roses are dying,
The symbol of love that’s always been lying.

Because roses will live, but not to be plucked,
Just looking down at the dirt, head solemly ducked.

It knows its future and wishes it didn’t-
Though a rose is a rose, and it knows it to be.

Roses, yessss. I love roses, they're probably one of my favorite flowers. It was nice to see a poem about them! It's simplistic and provides a different view on how roses would view their life cycle. I always imagined roses being regal and having a very elegant grace about them. Giving the flower itself quite a few reasons to be arrogant.

However, you presented them in mourning, knowing their fate and dreading it. The view was unique and the tragic, but it worked perfectly! The only thing I would really caution on would be the overuse of the word "love", but it doesn't stick out, just a little detail that I noticed.

Besides that, keep writing! I've already said it before but I really did enjoy this poem. The rhyming held it together and the different take on roses kept me reading. I'm looking forward to reading more of your poetry, you'll only improve from here c:

Honestly, even with all the hype about roses, they still aren't given enough credit for their beauty. That said, I can tell you that this poem quite artistically captures that beauty and puts it into words.

Rhyming is always an added bonus, and you did a fantastic job with it :) So many people who attempt to use rhyme in their poems just..... don't quite pull it off, and so this one was really a breath of fresh air so thank you for that, and please please PLEASE don't stop writing :D I'm looking forwards to reading your poetry (and other works) in future and I'm sure you'll only continue to get better :)

Oh gosh, I love it! It's simplistic in allegorical context but I fell in love with the writing and rhyming you weaved into it. I don't know how much of a review this is but I do have to say it's very good. You could always work on depth of meaning and letting people interpret your poetry in different ways so it can connect of different levels for each person but that's something that takes time and experience and I'm not even that good at it at all. There were a couple of times some of the words didn't quite fit but I've always been a fan of ending a poem being ripped out of the rhyme scheme and having a line that drops like a flat-line on a hospital machine. But good job! I appreciate your poetry and it's definitely entertaining. Keep it up~
