I want to seem calm and collected,
even if underneath the surface
I'm panicked-- freaking out
but I still swim with purpose.
When I'm out of my element,
I'm up on dry land,
I want to hold my head proudly
comfortable where I stand.
I'd like to be with my family
all of us swimming in a line
staying close together,
not leaving anyone behind.
But I am stuck as a human
and it's just my luck,
that I have to stay me.
I can't be a duck.

Hi! Silverberry here for a review! I must say, I wasn't really sure what I was expecting with this poem, and though it was a bit silly it was also very deep in a way. Good job! There were a few errors though that'd I like to point out though.
In your first stanza, there should be a comma after "out" in the third line, or else it would be "Even if underneath the surface I'm panicked-freaking out but..." which doesn't make sense. I'd also suggest taking the "but" out entirely.
I really like the second stanza, except for the face that the word "away" in the second line kind of sounds awkward with the flow of the poem. Also there should be another comma after proudly.
In the third stanza you're missing the word "to" between "like" and "be" in the first line. Also I'd also add some punctuation in, for example a comma after the first line and a period after the second.
The fourth line is my favorite (especially the end it made me laugh), but you actually don't need the comma after luck. Though I would exchange the period after me in the third line to a comma.
And that's pretty much it, it was practically all punctuation errors, which I myself make all the time so I can relate. For the other errors I'd just consider reading your poem out loud a few times before posting it because it was mostly just grammar and flow mistakes. Anyways, great poem and I really did like the theme a lot! Keep writing!
Hey, this is really cool. When I first saw your title I was so utterly confused that I just had to click on it. What I found is amazing. They way you connect different problems to being a duck in great and without this I would never want to be a duck and now I think I do to. Great job on this there is nothing negative I can say about it.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.
Okay, I'm going to be entirely honest - I have no idea what I was expecting from this, but it definitely was not a text as good as this one, much less a poem that's actually fluid, provocative, and not in the least bit conceited. Your poem talks about inner peace (or lack thereof, rather), adapting to a new home/environment, either socially or physically, and relationship with family, all under the banner of wishing to become a duck. Truly something else. Well done.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!
