I do not like green eggs and ham.
Sometimes that's the end of the story;
I know you want the glory
For saying you changed my mind;
But green eggs and ham do not appeal,
And I'd rather go without;
Still people get up in my face and shout,
"You'd like them if you tried!"
I do not like green eggs and ham,
And although you don't understand it,
I simply can't command it
To change upon a whim.
I know that others are obsessed
With this dish they love so well,
But it's not like there's a magic spell
To spark the desire within.
I do not want green eggs and ham,
So don't stalk me on the buses,
In those places where my trust is,
To shove it in my face.
It does not matter who you are,
It does not matter where;
I legitimately do not care,
So just leave me to myself.
They say it's good to try new things,
And in some ways they're not lying,
But you shouldn't go on crying
If I decide I'd rather not.
I do not like green eggs and ham.
Sometimes that's where the tale ends,
So let's forget this now and be true friends -
Just without green eggs and ham.

Okay- I relate SO hard to this poem, WOW... I think this is my favorite poem I've read all day. It was written in such a casual, laid-back, and spoken kind of way, which made it so much better, because it felt like a friend was venting to me. You use this analogy of green eggs and ham. It seems to be a dish that others enjoy, and they tell you, "if you just try it, you'd like it" but you don't even wanna try it. You don't wanna try it because you know that you won't like it already. This can be applied to so many things in life, like big goals for education or jobs or places to live for people to be with, or it can be very literal, perhaps it's about food. For me, I relate to it in a literal sense, because I struggle a lot with eating and trying new things.
Such a relatable feeling. Sometimes it feels like there must be the spark of magic inside of other people that makes them want to try things. But I. Just. Don't. Have it. And it can make you feel like a failure, honestly. I love your choice of words in this poem, using words like obsessed, or magic spell. They can definitely make you feel left out, like somethings wrong with you because you just don't have the spark that everyone else has.
UGH. THIS POEM IS SO GOOD. I love the simplicity! Yes, why why do things have to be such a big deal? Let's forget that I'm unable to be like you, just accept me for the way I am, and move on, without all these things being forced upon me. Wonderful! Honestly, this is probably my favorite poem I've read in a while, just because of how well I related to the message. You really capture that desire of just wanting to be friends and happy with things, not feeling constantly like you're not enough. No matter what this was a symbol for for you, I wish you, happiness and health! Thanks for being a fantastic writer, and I look forward to reading more of your poetry.
Your friend,
Ellie
Hello! This was a nice little poem, I certainly didn't expect to read a rendition of Green Eggs and Ham this morning. I only spotted one potential grammar mistake;
"I do not like green eggs and ham.
Sometimes that's the end of the story;
I know you want to glory
For saying you changed my mind;"
I think maybe "I know you want to glory" should be "I know you want the glory"
Other than that, it looks good to me! As an introvert, and as someone who knows what I like and don't, I resonate with the feeling of annoyance when people try to constantly change your mind on something you're set on. Even something as simple as taste preference! And I definitely think that attitude was conveyed well here. Thanks for posting your writing, I enjoyed reading it!
Thanks for pointing out that error. I have fixed it.
