I Still Believe in You

I Still Believe in You

They can put you through the battle,
But they cannot change your heart,
They can threaten you and torture you,
And tear your world apart,
They can break your very spirit,
But they cannot reach your soul,
Though they treat you like you're worthless
And they wrench your heart of gold,
For your soul is sweet and tender
And compassionate and true,
And though you give up on yourself,
I still believe in you.

Hello, there! Avi speaking : )
Wow. This poem is brief but powerful, honest, and piercing. It's like you're reaching through the screen and giving me a heartfelt, heart-wrenching lecture on how much you're there for me. The rhyme scheme fits wonderfully with the poem and makes it really fun to read, especially out loud (which I did, whispering it to myself).
This is a really good poem- the kind of poem I'd handwrite onto a small piece of paper, fold up into my wallet, and take out and read whenever I'm feeling down. This is the kind of poem that becomes memorized due to how many times the reader reads it (which the rhyme scheme really helps with, by the way, so kudos for that). This is the kind of poem whose paper it inhabits becomes worn with the number of times it's been folded and unfolded, smoothed out creases that come back with each fold, read, and reread.
Incredible work and I can't wait to read more of your poems!!! : D

Glad you liked it. :) And if your life would benefit from writing it down and carrying it in your wallet or something, please do! :)

Hello friend!! This was a very sweet poem. I like the light rhyme scheme that you have throughout the entire thing. I was really drawn in, and it feels very sweet and kind to read along with. It's kind of poem that feels inspirational!

They can threaten you and torture you,
And tear your world apart,
They can break your very spirit,
But they cannot reach your soul,

I love how you talk about all these physical things that people can do to us to try and destroy us and break us down. But you touch on how they cannot reach the soul that is inside of us, even if they break that spirit, and every part of us that is who we are. It's like there's this part of us that can never be broken, something that cannot be seen with the eye, like this hidden strength that only and we know that we have.

For your soul is sweet and tender
And compassionate and true,
And though you give up on yourself,
I still believe in you.

At the end, you talk about some really nice attributes. You talk about tenderness and compassion and truthfulness. It's true, we can give up on ourselves sometimes, but I love how you state so boldly that you'll always be there and that you still believe in us. This poem was really inspirational for me because of the way that you wrote it. It feels like I'm really being talked to by a friend. These are all such nice and empowering things to hear, I really see all these attributes that you talk about even in yourself. I like how you did a bit of rhyming too, but it wasn't too strict.

Overall, this was a really sweet poem, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Great work, and I can't wait to read more of your amazing poetry soon.

Your friend,
Ellie
