The audio is here. This is easily my best song musically. https://soundcloud.com/hsarvermusic/you-are-my-god
Verse 1:
Jesus I need you
More than anything
Jesus I want you
More than all else
Cover me in all your love
Jesus I need you to lead me
Through all these trials I am facing
Because I can't do this on my own
Chorus:
I can't live without you
I was wrong to ever doubt you
Jesus, you're my God
I need you ever hour I'm awake
I need you with every step I take
Jesus please be my guide
Verse 2:
Jesus I am thankful
For your forgiveness
Jesus I know that you're sufficient
To wash me and make me new
Jesus I know that I am yours forever,
Bought by your blood and I am treasured
Held closely in your arms
Chorus:
I can't live without you
I was wrong to ever doubt you
Jesus, you're my God
I need you ever hour I'm awake
I need you with every step I take
Jesus please be my guide
Bridge:
You're the great and mighty one
The one who is to come
You're the risen Son of God
Our perfect Sacrifice,
Jesus, Jesus, (2x)

I'm not christian, but I do know a bit about christianity, and 'll try to be as open as I can about this and review it without judgement.
It's pretty obvious that you 'want' jesus. You could probably leave that out. Also, 'want' is a big no-no word with christianity. It implies that you have human wants that are not 'needs' (Piousness, modesty, etc. basically mean that YOU DON'T HAVE WANTS- YOU'RE A SERVANT OF GOD AMIRIGHT you get your water, your food, your shelter, and your faith, and that is it). Want implies selfishness, which is something you don't want to bring up in a religious song.
how is jesus going to cover you in all your love? (I'm not being sarcastic here) Seriously. You need to back up that statement. Why do you want h(H?)im to cover you in his love? WHY?
when did you doubt him? maybe expand on that?
Jesus is not God. He's the son of god. God created him in his image and he was made man. Mortal. Human. Now, I'm not saying he's completely normal and in with the rest of us dirty sinners- he was most likely an incredible man with an amazing capacity for tolerance, love, and acceptance. But he is not a god(or GOD. you know what I mean), so saying he is one, is... (on to my next point)
A burdon. Poor Jesus.
I personally (this is personal so you don't need to read this)would treat him like a person. Not someone who can lift all the weights and problems off your back with a glance. I can say he is a loving spirit that we can all benefit from looking up to and calling on once in a while, but give the guy a break. He's just a man. With his own issues. It's hard to be a human cell of pain.
last note (that I actually think you should consider)- 'Perfect Sacrifice' sounds a little creepy. I know he died for our sins...but it's like you think that it's just handy dandy that he was KILLED by one of his own friends that he TRUSTED. Yes, he was the son of God. Sure. But dying for our sins does not mean that he was a 'perfect sacrifice'. you think he wanted to die? nah. maybe it was 'necessary', though I can't see how.
in any case, the line just sounds a bit gruesome, and I would revise it.
I'm sorry if I did, indeed sound biased. I'm like that sometimes. Pardon, and ignore this if you don't like it.

Thanks for the review. All I am going today in response is this. Jesus made numerous claims to having shared divinty with God the Father all throughout the gospels. And even reaching into the Epistles that Paul wrote, it is very clear that they saw Jesus as more than a man. Jesus allowed people to worship Him. More than that, Jesus forgave sins, no one other than God can forgive sins. I am thankful for your opinion on the song as well, and will look into it. A lot of the imagery is Christian cliche, and is not meant to be taken literally, so it may not make sense to you, sorry about that.
well, I do think a lot of people can forgive sins if they're tolerant- which, of course, Jesus was (as is God, if that's who you believe in)
just saying.
but thanks for replying!
hey windsailor! loving your avatar, first of all:)
i hope you continue on this path! You seem to really love it
so on to reviewing:
I love where these lyrics are coming from. I haven't listened to the audio, and I'm not much of a songwriter, however, I am aspiring to poetry. So I'll be focusing mostly on your lyrics.
I think, generally, I have to say that although I feel these words to heart (so few people our age are able to openly show their true faith these days) I cannot be biased. I fully believe these lyrics and like that they're so real from you.
But I have to be honest. They're pretty generic. Overused isn't the right word...but not very original. I'm sure you had lots of inspiration from contemporary worship songs, but how many songs have you heard with lyrics like "Jesus I need you, Lord, Lord, Jesus I need you"? Now this is a generic overstatement and I don't mean to be harsh at all, I think you're a lot better at lyrics than me at this point. But I love poetry, and because of that, I like words/lyrics that are different. I'm the kind of person who relates more to these kinds of lyrics because they provoke thought. So often we can recite a worship song with lyrics like yours, and be tempted to simply go through the motions. I think you have the potential to make this "not another contemporary worship song". You know what I mean?
I think you should read over some poetry, or better yet old hymns. They have some great lyrics that current worship songs are based off, but so many that have fantastic, poetic lyrics that are becoming more and more lost over the years.
Something I think you did well was take the essence of praise and blend it with a prayer, asking the Lord to lead you. Often times we see songs that are one or the other. I like that you combine them.
Great start! There's always room for lots of improvement!
Hope I helped!
