The lights in the distance comes closer,
Lighting up the darkness around me.
It becomes brighter by the second,
Its brilliance more clear to my injured eyes.
Why is life always so difficult? Why is it that I see others all around me, each of them bearing a smile, and yet here I am? My face is so different from others. I don’t know why I can’t smile.
Looking around me, I can’t understand why my life seems so dark. So gloomy. I follow the light, but never reach it. Its out there, just on the horizon, waving about in mocking gestures; taunting me. My heart yearns for the freedom it brings... but it evades me every time I reach out.
Injured because of the darkness,
The impeding thing that surrounds me.
Forcing me to back down,
And drowning me in its nothingness.
I feel wounded, as if fighting the darkness has taken strength from me. Like this enemy has wounded me to the heart. I can’t stand up. I can’t even kneel! All I can do is lie; prostrate, succumbed by the darkness. Destroyed by it.
The darkness is overcoming my senses. I can’t see anything, not even my hand that gropes for traction in the dark. I feel like dying, my soul departing from my body from pure torment and misery. Misery from not seeing, from not knowing. From feeling nothing but pain, and not seeing anything but the utter blackness in front of me.
I see others walking around me,
Their aura shining radiantly.
Like torches, lighting up the darkness,
Like angels, riding on stars in the sky.
I can almost feel the light coming, filling me with happiness and light for just one moment before their bearers turn away. My hands reach out, trying to grasp a fragment of their light, but I have nothing when I withdraw them.
Then out of the darkness comes one last light, and it is brighter than the others are. Her face emanates the wonderful brilliance, and her smile lights up my entire world, filling the horrible chasm with splendor. She looks down and then looks up and ahead, her eyes on the horizon. I begin to think that she will pass by, just like the others, leaving me in this state. My eyes begin to drift downwards, losing faith in this new light around me.
But just as I give up all hope, she reaches down and takes my hand.

Hello there TimmyJake, me again

Just reviewing some more of your work, this tittle caught my eye so I decided to come see what it was about. Personally I find this poem really cool and inspiring. I liked how you had two different ways of writing in it, poetry and paragraphs. That was cool and it kind of gave it a mysterious feeling
The story itself that you were writing about, I found very interesting. You kept me on the edge of my seat wondering how it was going to end, which is good for a writer, and I enjoyed it.
It was also kind of realistic in a certain sense. It is kind of hard though not to go into a state of depression when you see the world around you like it is, but its not good to stay in that depression. Everybody needs someone to help them remember how to smile =P I think everyone has been in a state of depression before and some have been lucky enough to have someone else to pull them out. Sometimes its friends, other times it family, sometimes its even your Faith in God.
Loved your work once again <3 I don't think its possible not to enjoy your writing. You have a very big imagination
Gotta go move on to your next poem xD
~Selina
Thank you, Selina. :') You're so nicee to little me. :p
LOL A lot less nice than you deserve =P
Hi Timmy!

I liked this one, because it was a really helpful story of how even through the darkness when you feel like you've lost all sense of hope, there is always one last thing that can redeem you once again. I think I also liked how this seemed more poetry than prose as the other one (I know, sorry for all these comparisons!) Because it has more stanzas in it as well, as the narrative was being shown in between them.
I am afraid this is going to be a short review because Pompadour has stolen the majority of the words right from my mouth, so I will write what she has left that I can keep for myself
I have to say, I guess this means I drew my name in chalk isn't the first prose poetry thing you've written
My only problem with the poem is that you have a lot of the prose bit saying the same thing. Save for the last one where it's about coming back up after it all, I feel like it spends a lot of time going on about the darkness, just describing what it is doing in different ways. The darkness this, the darkness that, and then the same thing again with the light. But really, in the second prose-related paragraph I feel like you cover all that really needs to said about the darkness being suffocating and horrible and so on. I would suggest you cut the second paragraph of the first bit, and then move the middle bit up. I like the repeat a bit in the third prose part because it's leading up to the conclusion. Then you have the middle free.
Again, this is just a suggestion and would be drastically changing your poem. But if the middle free maybe you could be more specific as to what is bringing on this darkness in this persons life? I understand if you wanted to remain generalized for the sake of then more people being able to relate, I suppose, but I think we lose a certain essence of the poem which could be good for bringing across a more detailed message.
Either way, this is all very much your decision ^.^

Thank you so much for your review, Livvy! Yeah, I have problems with redundancy. Bleh
My god this was excellent, I have no other way to describe this poem, I have read a lot of poems and this is another of my favorites. The imagery is flawless, and i have a hard time trying not to feel the same way that is described here. It's one of those poems, that what you read you feel everything that is described and i love that about this, because it makes you feel hopeless and then just as there is nothing left to grab there is that one person that drags you back. I loved this poem, it was very deep and intense, emotional wise. This made me think about my own life, because mine is very similar to this, i had the same problem for so long so i can relate to this on a personal level, and i love how you put the twist at the end and had someone to show the light and bring them back to the light because for me, i had to find it myself but as soon as i reached it i had help getting further, but this is better because instead of finding the light themselves, they had someone else lead the way. I feel deeply for this poem because of the correspondence to my own life and i love poems that do that for some reason. It reminds me that everything isn't all bad and that it will only ever get better if you don't give up, you know? I truly loved this poem i did, i did, i did. I probably sound like a broken record, but i cannot say this enough. You did an incredible job, and i love that i can relate to this because it reminds me of what i had been through and it always ends the same. Flawless, it was perfect.
Thank you for your wonderful review!!
Great poem here! Keep on writing! Gosh, I need to stop using so many exclamation points. It's been a habit for several years now. I even go to a support group for this. What am I going to do?
No idea! Thanks!
Yep! No matter what I do, I can't stop myself from adding an exclamation point. They've even taken that button away, even though it has the comma as well. They're so cruel! Yet, I am still able to add one on anyway. *Evil laughter slowly fades away*
Exclamation points are just telling me that you are happy and excited! What's wrong with that?!!!!!!!!!!!!! hee hee

I epitomize "crazy," ye amateur. I have just learned to keep my crazy within the limits of sugar, is all. :3
Boy. That enter button is sticky.
I know!! So sticky!
I am not an amateur!! You are!

People, calm down! I know that YWS therapy is hard for you, but you have to learn to relax. By the way, that'll be fifty for the hour. Thanks.
I AM NOT AN AMATEUR.
*blows raspberry*
*blows nuke* Whoops! hee hee *exits dramatically as explosion rocks the world*
Now hold it. You are both amateurs and you still haven't given me the correct amount from our last therapy session! That'll be sixty dollars. Did I mention that for every late amount, I add ten dollars? Now stop fighting you silly earthlings. You are only attracting more attention!
Holdddd it just one second... Aren't you supposed to be giving me a session? I just blew up the planet, and you didn't try to stop me or anything. Where are these therapy sessions you speak of, silly earthling?
Immortality becomes me, does it not? It was only but a year ago when I became immortal. Of course, it was painful, being bitten by a vampire. But I survived and so here I am. But of course, you had to blow up the planet and in doing so, you forced my coven and me to flee before the Earth was destroyed. I think you owe me more than sixty dollars. You owe me some blood.
I've canceled your next therapy session, by the way. Oh, well I wouldn't call them therapy sessions. More like...feedings. *evil laugh*
*goes to blood bank to donate blood to Magenta* I think I am too crazy to go to your therapy sessions... You can't change me. Mwuahahahaha!!!!
Look in the mirror. I think you've grown a bit pale. Have you noticed your thirst yet? Do you find yourself looking tired, but better than before. Don't you remember breaking your mahogany table? Think again. I am your creator! Mwahahahahaha!
Nah, I just stuck a knife in it.
I am always pale, btw. Its what you get when its wintertime.
I do feel a little tired and pale, but destroying the planet has taken a lot of energy from me.
Fine, I admit it! I haven't bitten you yet.
I think this session must close. Since this is a literary work, not a chat bar.
Thank you for restoring me to health and.... Uhhh... not biting me.
I would prefer to not be a vampire. xD
Okay. And they all lived happily ever after. The End...
(Except for Timmyjake, he didn't live happily. He was eaten by a crocodile.)
and Magenta unfortunately was stomped on by a pink elephant in a leotard on her way to a therapy session. Too bad.
Well! At least you had an exciting death. Okay, okay! We seriously have to end this. Or we could just move this to your wall.
I think these therapy sessions are messing with my health. Sure! We can continue them elsewhere.
Well. Glad the battle's over. I'll just hide while you guys attend the therapy session...
*turns into a potato*
*Reverses potato turning* Ha! ha!
Timmy!! I decided to pop by for a review 'cause that's what cookie ninjas do!
So let's get cracking!
OK, so I loved how you finished this piece off. It was subtle, dramatic and just -- just riveting! (I've been wanting to use that word for a long time, lol.) The title really caught my attention, and I've always been drawn to the-journeys-of-life-and-finding-your-way kind of poems. The format is very different, I guess, and that's what made this fun to read. Your writing style is emotional and honest, and the imagery was just amazing! There are a few places where I suggest you reword this so it doesn't sound choppy. I'll go over it bit by bit, then?

Beautiful. Nothing more to say here. I especially love this bit:
It's just so vivid and brilliant!
Other stuff
In a nutshell -- or muffin tray (whichever you prefer)
This was an amazing piece of writing. I could relate to it, so it was tremendous fun reading it. The way you talk about things is bittersweet, and I love how you always add a tinge of hope to the despondent ways of the world!
Keep writing! Keep it up!
And the light will find a way.
Cheers,
~Pompadour
Thanks for your amazing review! I will edit it SOON!!! :d
No problem.
You ought to know that this is by far the longest review I've ever written! XD
Editing complete!
It looks absolutely spiffing!
YAYAYAYAYAYAY!!! Thanks for the review again!

Thanks!
Hi Timmyjake, GreenTulip here to give you a review.

First of all, I loved this poem. This is amazing. Okay, maybe I should I get to the actual review part.
I love how you formatted this poem. The paragraphs really helped to explain the stanza above. The paragraphs didn't detract any meaning from the poem, yet it added extra value into the poem. It is well done, and it is amazing. Nothing else would make this poem better. I loved it, good job.
Thanks for the review!
