Mirror, My Mirror

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Am I not pretty, am I not fair?
Would not the silkworms spin lust with my hair?
Magnificent, yes, I have more than my share,
Mirror, my mirror,
My one, my all.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
How did this happen, and why is it now?
In my prime I am burdened, as wide as a cow!
This babe flushes my face, her sweat on my brow.
Mirror, my mirror,
My one, my all.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
A porcelain doll breathes anew in my arms.
She's enchanted the maids with infantile charms.
My beauty now hers, I am roused to alarm,
Mirror, my mirror,
My one, my all.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
My daughter has grown to be fair as the spring,
As fresh as new snow, and Lord can she sing.
And there is an envy that makes my ears ring,
Mirror, my mirror,
My one, my all.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
I sent a guard with a knife to bring back her heart.
No more will I compete with so pretty a lark.
That I gave her life; it rips me apart,
Mirror, my mirror,
My one, my all.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
I'm told she is dead, and I feel no regret,
For the heart I was given was none I beget.
To the kingdom she's enchanting, to me only a threat.
Mirror, my mirror,
My one, my all.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
I've searched and I've found her, now she will pay
For taking my beauty and happiness away.
The song that she hums will cut short today,
Mirror, my mirror,
My one, my all.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
I've disguised myself old and a feeble mistress,
I gave her an apple which caused her distress,
I felt a small sadness, I suppose I'll confess,
Mirror, my mirror,
My one, my all.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
She gorged and let cider run all down her hands,
Until the bitter poison on her tongue made it's brand.
Her nails raked my arm as her wits turned to sand,
Mirror, my mirror,
My one, my all.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Her venom is mine, my wrists laced in gangrene,
Flesh destroyed by my flesh, no envy more green
Than that of this wretched, ugly old queen,
Mirror, my mirror,
My one, my all.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Now who is the fairest, most beautiful of all?
The still-living empress, or stone-dead doll?
The one fallen, or she who caused her to fall,
Mirror, my mirror,
My one, my all?

hi, happy review day! This is a really great poem! I loved it. I love your use of repetition with the phrase "Mirror, my mirror, my one, my all" I liked the twist on the classic ending. I also liked that the evil queen is your main focus and in the end she succeeded. I really can't find very much to correct it has a nice rhythm and flows well. A really beautiful poem.
Nicely done! I hope to see more of your works in the future.
Happy writing!

I love it!!!!!! I can literally hear the rhythem as I read!!! :) But there is one thing I found wrong...a few of the words you used made no sense in the poem in which you used them. when I came to those words I just got confused and kinda skipped over them because I don't know what they mean and they just seem random in the poem itself. here are a few of the words...gangrene...beget...lark. they don't seem like they belong :( good luck and great poem :)

Brilliantly done. The last stanza just hit me.

I have no words to praise the flow of words. Seldom we get to see a poem or a story which sucks you into its own world right from the very first word. This one does that with ease.

I have absolutely no complaints about anything. The narration is amazing so is the flow of words. It looks as if someone is sitting right next to you and narrating his life.

Great Job. Keep writing.
