Lekan walked into the house through the front door and started when he turned and saw Obi waiting for him, a book in his hand. "Hello, uncle." Glancing around, he tried to see if there was someone else around... or any reason for Obi to be lingering in the entryway.
"Don't worry. I was waiting for you." Jerking his shoulder in a signal to follow and assuming Lekan would, he turned toward a little used drawing room. He had vague memories of using it as a room to play cards in or a room to hide from tutors in. The house was too empty too much of the time for any of that now. He wasn't quite sure why that made him as sad as it did.
Tapping his fingers nervously against the wall, Lekan went after his uncle. "Er... Have you been waiting there since I left?"
"No." Obi opened the door, waving Lekan in. "I was standing there for a few minutes before you came in. I was expecting you to take longer. You must not have gotten what you were hoping for." He hesitated, knowing that what was on the tip of his tongue really shouldn't be said by a man his age. Surely Lekan's youth balanced the scales... "Or perhaps you were lacking."
Lekan scoffed, a blush drawing over his cheeks though it was disguised by the dimness of the room. "I am never lacking."
With a grunt that was neither derisive or grudging acknowledement but was more annoying than both, Obi lit a match and several candles.
Trying not to smile, Lekan pointed at a light switch. "We have these crazy things now-"
"I know. Let's do things my way for my sake, eh?" He wasn't sure why he turned to look at Lekan after that. He just knew that Lekan could tell something was wrong by looking which was humbling. He should be able to hide what he felt better than that. At the same time, he was glad Lekan finally had a look of concern on his face. Obi quickly turned back around again, trying to find a way to keep his hands busy. "I would like to really get to know my nephew." Clearing his throat, he tried to keep himself from sighing, tried to keep his voice natural and light. "I feel like most of the time I've been home you've either been away or, since your father died, we've been arguing."
"Because you've been smothering me," Lekan slipped into the pause Obi had left wide open and raised his chin defiantly when Obi went still. Lekan had been in enough arguments with his uncle to know that still and quiet was always more dangerous than the alternative.
"I recognize the fact that you're still a young kid at heart, so I'm not going to respond angrily to that. In fact..." Shaking his wrist efficiently to extinguish the match, he turned around. "I'll agree with you. Maybe I was a little too harsh with you."
Lekan remained exactly where he was as Obi passed him to light candles on the other side of the room. Blinking several times at the space his uncle had just occupied, he asked quietly, a sly grin on his face, "What did you say?"
With a smirk, Obi glanced back. "I'm not saying it again." He cursed as the match burned down to his fingers and dropped it. Crushing it with his heel, he grimaced at the black smudge on the rug he was sure was some kind of expensive heirloom that no one truly cared about until it was damaged.
Making no effort to cover his huge smile, Lekan murmured, "You know that kind of thing wouldn't happen if you just flipped the switch."
"Shut up." Obi would have glared at his nephew except for the fact that his own treacherous lips wouldn't stop quivering into a smile. "We need to cover it. I don't need the maids finding this and telling the housekeeper. Gods know the woman yelled at me enough when I knocked a teapot off a coffee table."
With a shake of his head, Lekan glanced around. "Who knew you were afraid of a little woman? Or such a klutz for that matter?"
This time, Obi let himself laugh. "We should have had that woman fighting for us." He pointed at the loveseat. "I think the room could stand for that to move back a little. And…" He shrugged. "Some situations aren't made for an old soldier."
Feeling the mood drop, Lekan got behind the loveseat with his uncle and counted, "One, two, three." He pushed with Obi and nodded when they had pushed it back far enough. "What exactly did you want to do?"
Obi smiled as he pulled his side of the couch to make it straight. "I was thinking some cards or maybe some fencing." He glanced up.
Somehow, Lekan thought the words meant more than he had understood.

Heyo Egs!

~ How is that supposed to make him not worry? Lekan seems worried that Obi was waiting for him, so why should the knowledge that he really was make him any less scared?Turns out the switch from the fast pace of college life to the "nothing-on-my-agenda-for-three-days" kind of is driving me insane. So I'm going to put my obsessive nature to good use and review more (and ideally finally get that first dang blue star).
~ Omigosh, this scene is so Brek/Thran. xD I approve so much.

If I wasn't so far behind, I would hate you so much for giving this little teaser and nothing more. It's well written, as everything you write, and inspires interest. I didn't expect Obi to reach out to Lekan like this-- but I absolutely love the snark both of them have in it. On to part two.
Keep writing!

Hi there! Noelle back again for another Review Day review!
Uncle should be capitalized since it's being used as a name here.
This is a nice, short chapter. I want to say it's cute, but I'm not sure if that will come across as a compliment like I want it to :3 It's nice to see Lekan and Obi getting along like this. We haven't really seen much of that interaction up to now. All it's been is Obi's own agenda mixed with Lekan's own agenda. But here they're together, spending time together. I think that's sweet. Despite all they're going through, they still take some time out to "hang out" with each other.
One thing that has been bothering me for a while is when exactly Lekan is going to serve this "punishment" of his? He's supposed to go off as a spy, yes? I haven't really seen a mention of it for a while. Maybe I'm just being unobservant? I bet you mentioned it earlier and I just missed it. Either way, I feel like Lekan might think about it more than he is now, which is like, not at all.
Seriously, this is very well written. I quite enjoy reading each of your chapters as they're all written well and all come together well. Looking forward to reading on!
Keep writing!

Hey there Meg!

Happy review day
I loved this chapter. You can see how Obi is actually trying to bring things together and spend a bit more time with Lekan. And you can see their playful banter with candles and light switches (which I absolutely adored reading). I think in this chapter what really shines through is their characters, but I don't really know what to comment on! The interactions were flawless and realistic, and there wasn't a single fault in dialogue. I just have three tiny nitpicks for you, which isn't the most useful thing in the world. I'll deposit them here and catch up on the story though
Smallest thing ever, but I suggest you take out the 'in' on the end there.
I would take out the first 'too' so the sentence doesn't become too confusing.
This sentence read confusingly. How about something like: he grimace at the black smudge on the rug. It was the kind of thing that would turn out to be an expensive heirloom no one truly cared about until it was damaged.
Other than that, there really is no more feedback I could possibly give you. It was too perfect. And you, Meg, write far too well

Hi, mate. My name is pinkie, but you can call me Pinkie Pie! I like to be your reviewer today for the May Review Day! Hold on as I get my glasses. *puts on glasses* Ok...let's get on the review.

Mmm...I think story is interesting...but strange. I do like the story. I really do like it. It is great written like Peanut say. I think it is a engrossing to read it. I also like the characters and their unusual names. Maybe I will makes some characters with unusual names too! Hahaha! However, there are few grammars errors and the story have a frail ending like the other two say. Anyway, I liked it.
Keep writing!
Cheers, my friend!

P.S.: Happy May Review Day!
Hello, PeanutPhoebe here to review your work! I don't usually review chapters in the middle of a book, but, well, you know, it's Review Day, and we're trying to get the Green Room clear!
So, this chapter seems somewhat strange to me, but then again, I don't know what's going on anyway. Your character names are very interesting! I like unusual names, rather than like, Bob and Sally. (Not that I've seen those names on here, but you know what I mean, right?) Now let me think...Did I see any grammatical problems? I think I saw one, but I can't remember it now. Stink, I hate when that happens! What else was I gonna say? Oh, your formatting was fine, and your characters seemed to be very well developed! It's good to not have flat, static...or... boring characters. (That's the only word I could think of to describe what I meant) Anyway, you're doing a great job on this. Keep going!
Now I haven’t read the previous chapters so I am apologise for that. However, the title of your novel drew me in so lets get this review started. Oh, happy review day I hope you’re having fun.
I liked the strangeness of these characters name. Granted I don’t know how their personality has developed through this novel and I cannot see the name Obi and think of Star Wars. I’d also get rid of the ellipse and have just a dash.
I really like this line. We get a sense of the character and I think the two interactions are pretty good.
As an ending I thought this was rather weak. It didn’t set up for the next chapter and didn’t really excite me to read on. I’m not saying that all chapters need to end on a climax or a cliff-hanger but try to add something which will make readers wish for more.
Like I said I haven’t read the other chapters so in a lot of areas I am in the dark. But I liked the two characters and how they bounced off of each other. However, I would have liked to have seen something more than character interaction. I felt that this was all the chapter was good for. That isn’t saying that character interactions isn’t bad – far from it – but I felt that there was just too much of a good thing here.
Other than that I enjoyed this chapter despite lacking in some knowledge.
Happy review day and happy writing!
