In Journey through time and thoughts

PreviousNext

I am Rafael, also known as Buranko.

When the first shades of the morning
Paint the cold autumn sky,
When small birds start their joyful orchestra
I still belong to the slumber god

Only when my mum comes in,
Opens the windows and
Just like Sleeping Beauty
I awaken after being kissed by the
Gentle fall wind.

I grab my phone; it
Opens with a bright smile.
"Welcome back Rafael how may I serve you ?"
To which I lazily respond:
"Just the usual"

After finishing my waking up ritual,
The monster slowly opens his mouth.
I remove his tongue, that embraces my body,
Then carefully lay it back,
And go at the place named kitchen.
...........................................................
My old piano trembles in excitement
Seeing me finish battling opponents all over the globe.
It doesn't understand how
A small plastic book can store
People from all around the world.

But it knows its job.
"Rafael comes angry, I need to calm him down.
So no out of tune hiccups
Just him
And his playing"

2 hours later the piano's voice stops.
The boy stands up
On his face a calm smile rests
The instrument achieved
Its goal.
.................................................
The night emerges.
Her long black dress sprinkled with glitter
Shines through the darkness.
In the houses people
Close their eyelids slowly.

I don't.
After grabbing a cup of tea
I sit down at my desk.
My other identity crawls out.
I am a poet.

Lord Momo, squire, is here to review! Let's get started, shall we? (note: if you don't like my suggestions, feel free to ignore them.)

I really like this poem a lot. How you describe everyday objects as monsters, plastic books, etc. I really feel like I'm there with you because you describe it so well. It also challenges me to go back and read it again so I can figure out what you're describing. Overall, I love it!

I am Rafael, also known as Buranko.

When the first shades of the morning
Paint the cold autumn sky,
When small birds start their joyful orchestra
I still belong to the slumber god

The first line isn't attached to a stanza, so it kinda messes up the rhythm. I would suggest putting it in a stanza, or taking it out completely. I would also suggest you put a period at the end of this stanza, seeing how you do that for the other stanzas. I really like how you describe sleep as the slumber god. It does feel like sometimes sleep is controlling you like a god would!

I grab my phone; it
Opens with a bright smile.
"Welcome back Rafael how may I serve you ?"
To which I lazily respond:
"Just the usual"

Put a comma after "Rafael" and a period after usual.

After finishing my waking up ritual,
The monster slowly opens his mouth.
I remove his tongue, that embraces my body,
Then carefully lay it back,
And go at the place named kitchen.

I think you should write "to" instead of "at".

But it knows its job.
"Rafael comes angry, I need to calm him down.
So no out of tune hiccups
Just him
And his playing"

A period is needed after playing.

The night emerges.
Her long black dress sprinkled with glitter
Shines through the darkness.
In the houses people
Close their eyelids slowly.

I think you should use a different word then "glitter". Maybe glamour or luster? Glitter sounds like a little kid's play costume, and you're describing the queen of the night.

I don't.
After grabbing a cup of tea
I sit down at my desk.
My other identity crawls out.

This is a great last stanza, and it explains why you sleep so late. :D

Other then those things, it's a great poem! Again, I'm sorry if I was too critical and feel free to ignore my suggestions if you don't like them. Keep writing, and have a happy RevMo!

Hi there, Buranko! I'm back again with another review.

When I saw the title of this poem, I just knew I had to review it. :)

I'm a planner at heart, and routine is one of the things that helps me feel focused & calm. I wasn't really sure what to expect from your routine, but I certainly enjoyed what I read! It reminds me of your butterfly poem with your word choice. I think the best comparison I can make for both of those poems is that they're like Studio Ghibli movies. They take something that's a simple part of life and make it into a grand adventure. Even though I didn't know where the story was going, I was on the edge of my proverbial seat.

This line in particular gave me chills:

I still belong to the slumber god

I've never seen sleep be described by that, but I really love the imagery. Like I mentioned earlier, you make a simple part of daily life feel like an adventure - and I really appreciate that kind of storytelling!

I also love how you started the poem with an introduction to yourself, and ended it with a similar line that revealed a hidden side the reader didn't see before. It suggests that you take a long time to really get into the rhythm of writing. You need all of the other rituals mentioned throughout the poem - your mother waking you up, brushing your teeth, playing the piano, grabbing tea - to finally be able to sit down and write poetry.

My biggest critique of this poem is the title. I mentioned at the beginning of the review that it was what hooked me in, but it also didn't give me all that much context for the poem. Considering your style of writing, I bet you could come up with a really cool and unique title that captures the spirit of your poem. I'm not sure what that title would be, but I've used lines from my poems in the past when picking out new titles for them.

Also, little minor nitpick here:

2 hours later the piano's voice stops.

Since 2 is a pretty small number, it's usually a good idea to write it out when you use it in any kind of writing. It can be jarring and take the focus away from the rest of the poem when you don't.

All in all, I really love this poem! You can expect that I'll be back to read more of your poetry in the future. :)

Awwww that comparison between my poems and Ghibli movies really moved me. I agree that writing 2 as 2 and not two takes some of the beauty in a work. Thanks Mage for taking the time to review my poem

Ah and about my titles, I don't like giving too much detail in it. Most of the time I look for the essence of my poem and after that I choose a simple title. I really like the effect it produces

You're welcome! And I can definitely respect that. If simple titles are your jam, then go for it. <3
