What is love, but a chemical reaction?
Some illusive product of primal attraction.
Bring about the greatest feats.
Tears up families, children weep.
If love is a whim of the mind,
who can force other's,
to have their love resigned?
Love is the grace of God,
but when shared by,
two of the same -
God hates you, let your body rot.
Can a person of all liberty,
be prescribed sexuality?
Is love come in a box?
Neatly packaged with string?
Clever marketing, Cupid's twing.
If no higher steeple for love,
come before marriage.
Why then does love roll out?
So like their day's horse and carriage.
Two of different,
creeds and skins,
can never be.
We must maintain,
our dignity.
So i at last,
on time I realize,
that hearts worth sharing,
come in more than one size.

Your comment was posted, but it wasn’t long enough to count as a review. Reviews need about four complete sentences (at least 250 characters). Try writing another review that explains your thoughts in more detail — the author will appreciate it, and you’ll earn points for it.
Poetry or lyrics are the two things I cannot be critical about. Poetry has a technical side, yes, but I'm not interested in that. I love the way your poem discribes the feeling of love. Not just as an emotion, but as something real and touchable.
Poems are supposed to flow from the soul, and your hand writes whatever you feel. This, I think, is a perfect example of that.
First I'll be critical and just revising it for detail:
.
-Watch your punctuation on line 6: no apostrophe on others.
I liked how you transitioned from the topic of power in the second stanza (who can force others) to the statement presented in the third stanza: "Love is the grace of God". The way I interpreted it was exciting, because it's saying that God has this power of love, and that it's actually a grace, not something hateful as presented in the first stanza.
However, the next line "but when shared by two of the same- God hates you, let your body rot" I kind of lost you there. Are you saying God hates when you love another human, and not Him? If so, I guess that's ok... ish... eh. Regardless, good use of the hyphen to foreshadow a sudden cutoff / possible death.
Did you mean, "DOES love come in a box?" (you wrote "is")
I'm not really sure about your ending. Hearts coming in more than one size.... I can see how that connects to the "marketing" of love by Cupid (I thought that was clever!) but I don't see how it relates back to the speaker and his final realization. It seemed abrupt. I don't know, something just seems missing. If you mentioned a lover, perhaps?
That probably seemed incredibly picky, but I actually did like this a lot. I can tell you took time to look at literary devices, and it's not just a modern **** poem about emotions
