Where are the clouds going?
They always seem
to be journeying
away
towards a destination
that has never been revealed to me.
Unending rows
of fluffy white soldiers
steadily floating
in silent grandeur.
They're sailing like ships
released from harbors
where they've been held for far too long.
Rimmed with pastel colors,
shadowed by the evening,
tonight they're flowing away
far too fast for me.
Light is fading
and soon, they'll be fading too.
Hugging my arms about me,
trying to shut out the cold,
I'm wishing that
I could follow, and
bask in the glory
of an evening sunset painted by God.
Perhaps it's just me
wishing I was free,
just a silly child's wish
for the right
to love without being afraid.
Please don't laugh, because
this wish doesn't seem stupid to me.
I wonder where
the clouds will go
tonight, as
I cry myself to sleep,
holding my arms tight about me,
trying to shut out the cold.

I really liked this. It was simple, yet beyond the skin-deep free verse it was a structure collaborating your simplest emotions with truly deep and meaningful ideas. I think this is a case where even you as the writer didn't quite realize everything where you were saying - which I love, by the way. It really did say a lot about us as people, how we're longing to be in love but are too afraid, a "childish wish." There was something refreshing and sweet about this. *liked

This poem put me in a momentary trance. Either from the thought of where the clouds go, or the total understanding of the 'silly child's wish' To love without being afraid. I get that it does sound stupid when you first read it, but then you think. Think about how hard it is to connect with someone else. To totally let go, be vulnerable, and confused; I don't know about you or anyone else on here, but just the thought of love scares me. So, Your poem is amazing. Great job. I really hate being the nit-picker so I won't.
