What We Carve On Time (By Lavender)

In Of Lavender and Jasmine

What doesn't mean anything till we think about it?
What can enlighten you and send you to despair's pit?
What doesn't seem like much when it's first made to fit?
What is the only way to keep hold of time, bit by bit?

Baby, we built this house, on what this is
Take my picture now, but still kiss me please --
Because our fantasies have become our legacies,
I've mortgage on your heart in an eternal lease.

Even when forty winters would besiege my brow --
This, in perpetuity, I can never disavow;
Matters not how little -- glorious purpose, or a timid bow,
My life revolves around this, you should know now.

This records life's walking shadow, that struts
And frets his hours upon this stage, with buts,
Ands, and ors. It narrates the tale in castles and huts,
Signifying nothing and everything, all why's and what's.

For this one, I'm guessing thoughts / ideas! I feel a disconnect with the narrative though, so it's probably something else. But fun riddle, you continue to amaze how someone can keep this up so effortlessly.

Baby, we built this house,
Take my picture now
become our legacies

Am I seeing things or did you steal these lyrics from the song- 'House of memories'? XD waitttt.. is the answer memories?! It'd be a such a wild clue if it indeed is! And it binds the narrative rather well.

I've mortgage on your heart in an eternal lease.
Even when forty winters would besiege my brow

My favourite lines for their beautiful phrasing!

This records life's walking shadow, that struts
And frets his hours upon this stage, with buts,
Ands, and ors. It narrates the tale in castles and huts,
Signifying nothing and everything, all why's and what's.

The surprisingly flawless meter and in between rhymes actually reminded me of Jasmine more, it's cute to see both their styles blend into each other every now and then. When you're in love, you start to become like them- well said!

heya rebel. I'm late but I slept most of the day so.

I love this concept: "I've mortgage on your heart in an eternal lease." That's a really cool line and the entire stanza is just wonderful. It does speak of their love for each other but also about what they are gonna leave behind or made reality.

Again another riddle I am not sure I can solve. But the questions themselves feel very on point. I also see that the poem does revolve around the concept... I just can't figure it out :3

Another great poem so!

(Wait, is it memories? But... they exist even when you're not actively thinking abt them, at least that's how I feel abt memories. They are ... the impact the past had on you and so constantly shape what you are doing too. But I can see how it could work like... memories only exist when you think of them actively. Hm)

Thanks for the review, Tika! About the answer, either read the next poem or just google the first four words of the second stanza -- or BOTH!

This is very beautiful. The second verse though reminded me of the song House of Memories by Panic At The Disco (I think...). It made me start reading the whole thing to beat of the song and it was really entertaining. Is it a reference. I have to know. If it is it's absolutely great.

If I had to guess what this entire poem was talking about it would have to the memory of someone you love. Or just love in general. But to me it doesn't seem like that alone would apply to everything in the poem, and that's why I went with memory of love, not love it's self.

Overall this was wonderfully written, and I definitely plan to read the second part. I saw it first, but decided to read this for context first.

Thanks for the review, ColdOne! Also yes, it's definitely a reference to House of Memories.
