You asked me to write
things of the future.
I had tried but I could not.
For all the things I imagined
could not be given breath
as they were
dead and dull.
The future was
beyond my grasp.
You asked me to write
things of miracles and magics.
I could not and I had tried.
For all the things I had in mind
challenged logic and
welcomed absurdity.
They were unreal
and threatened my sanity.
A dead man
stays dead.
You asked me to write
things of horror.
I had tried but I could not.
And why should I?
Ominous shadows,
twisted characters -
literally or not.
They would spook me
and haunt my life.
Fearful of my
own creations.
For all the things you
wanted me to write,
you had to understand.
My experience, my feelings,
My world view, my thoughts,
they made me write.
I would finish it
because I would write things
I could not keep to myself.
I needed to share them
for my own benefits.
Relieved, satisfied. The burdens
were gone.

I think this is amazing. Its beautifully written. This is by far my favorite poem! I really like how at the end of each one you have this kinda spooky or odd lines. It really made the poem, to me, more powerful. It gave me chill bumps each time i read one of those. I think my favorite one by far is:
"You asked me to write
things of miracles and magics.
I could not and I had tried.
For all the things I had in mind
challenged logic and
welcomed absurdity.
They were unreal
and threatened my sanity.
A dead man
stays dead."
You have captured a writers thoughts (maybe not everyone's but some) because not all writers like writing certain things and i think that's how they feel about it. May just be how they just cant do it it, cause it feels wrong. Anyways I loved this! I look forward to your next work XD

Thanks for the uplifting review.
This is a brilliant piece. Precisely highlights the struggles of a writer and the cynicism they have to face. I really loved this:

"They would spook me
and haunt my life.
Fearful of my
own creations."
Profound and magic
But hey I had this doubt. First you say
"You asked me to write
things of miracles and magics.
I could not and I had tried."
You say you could not write of miracles but then you say
"For all the things I had in mind
challenged logic and
welcomed absurdity."
Don't you think these two are contradicting?
Perhaps you could put some light on that.
Happy writing
First of all, thanks for the review.
What I was trying to say was that the persona was imaginative. That much was true. And writing off everything he imagined was not the problem. It was simply the process of imagining that was. If he kept thinking about miracles and magical stuffs, he was afraid he would go insane or overly attached to them.
I really enjoyed your piece! I feel that it gives a true insight as to the struggles that any writer, whether it's stories, poetry or script, feels when beginning. The final lines in each stanza work well in emphasising the thought you convey in the previous verse. My favourite line is "Fearful of my own creations". It's a feeling any writer can connect with. Overall, I love this poem for the topic it deals with, and the way in which you explore thoughts and ideas. Please write more!
Aww, thanks.
I really loved this poem, especially the last paragraph. I often hear people say they don't like someone's writing because it is too depressing but even though happy is also good, a writer writes about how they feel. While people do like to write when they are happy, I myself usually write more when I am depressed. Once I tried writing a poem that was joyful, but about a situation I have never felt myself and it fell flat ( I only got two paragraphs done). But once I wrote about something inspiring and beautiful that I had gone through myself, the poem flowed across the paper smoothly. (Or so I hope.
)
The last paragraph is definitely true to every word. When I write, it`s to share my feelings and what I`ve been through; even if no one ever reads it. Once it's on paper and you`ve shared it with your best friend, you are right, the feeling of freedom and relief is present.
For paper and ink is every writer`s best friend.
Thanks for the review.
No problem! I hope I got the meaning of what you were trying to say in the poem right.
Yes, you got it right. I always feel like the writers first write for themselves before addressing the readers. It's one of the way to be an honest writer.
Very true! I've seen a good author write against her beliefs because the writing company wanted her to. It was kind of sad.
