Power of Decision

I am a speaker, dancing around words of various sharpness and vibrations, gathering coherent sentences to be a solid army of arguments.

The ability to speak is powerful indeed, as I can utilize my speech to manipulate others, but to say it is my primary ability is fallacious.

My primary ability is not an ability, as it implies a skill only certain people can possess. It is not soprano that some singers can achieve; it is not balance shading some artists can achieve; it is not exaggeration some scholars can achieve.

It is what made the singers sing, the artists paint, and the scholars argue. It is an action possessed by everyone, a result of the mind when it is allowed to function. I decide to speak.

To decide is to execute the greatest action. Stunt the decision making for some time and I will die, my body and soul. Some force me to stop (my harmless words are their death) but I will not.

There is a reason why I can decide; there is a reason why I need to. Power of decision is in everyone's hold, and to use it is to complete our definition as humans. From it, we create; from it too, we destroy.

To deny the power of decision is to murder.

Although this is not technically a poem it does posses certain poetic qualities. It came across to me more as a statement or speech of profound derivation. It speaks on the concept of freedom of speech and how some people seem to think that they are more entitled to the act than others. It addresses the perverse sense of entitlement many people in our society's posses when it comes to freedom of opinion which is that not all are intellectually competent enough to voice to an opinion on certain issues forgetting that voices like people are all different and are not exclusively preserved as a luxury for people belonging to a certain class, race, or religion. however this is simultaneously contradicted in the fifth line where you state that "My primary ability is not an ability, as it implies a skill only certain people can possess" which is clever due to the fact that as the passage described speech as a divine right practiced by all some people are better than others at expressing themselves verbally and posses this gift to a skillful degree. Also love the way you take about speech as a form of rebellion or "resistance" perhaps in the revolutionary context. Many people who have changed the world have done so through voicing their opinions on recurring injustices and have use their voices as weapons to fight back against bigotry and hate.

Great write! i do not think it falls under poetry as it very straightforward and doesn't utilize a variety of poetry techniques, however structurally it does resemble a poem.

Well done! Very powerful.

Hello there,

I really liked what you wrote a lot but let me tell you straight forward it doesn't fall into the category of poetry from my humble opinion.

I think poetry relies more on figures of speech and rhyme scheme and so many factors which I think are not available in your prose.

I think however that what you wrote is solid in terms of a literary form of prose. It's very argumentative and has this philosophical theme which I thought was great.

All in all, I really enjoyed reading what you wrote. Keep it up, but it's definitely not poetry.

Regards,
YD

This is very eloquently written, and it does convey a powerful message. This does fit into the poetic category, but it also can be seen as a narrative. I would suggest you say something else for the summary, as an uncertain sounding summary may fail to do the job of pulling in more interested readers.
I did feel like you may have repeated several words, "Speak, speech, ability..etc) and somehow it made the poem sound cumbersome and doesn't flow as easily. You may want to use more descriptive language when writing a poem, but good job on giving the reader a strong feeling and mood with your work, and I hope you keep up the good work!

Well, if I can't get this chapter to work....at least I will have exercised my fingers.
