The Piece of Technology

Teenagers everywhere had the piece of technology
in their hands—it's like holding their hearts.
Their eyes were glued to them
as if they were reading their lives’ predictions;
they watched each glowing line
moved on a thin screen.
Their fingers no longer pressed;
they tapped without sounds,
bringing the silence they preferred.
Such was the impact the piece gave to them;
full of colourful wonders they were not afraid to explore—
deeper and deeper everyday
without fear of being exposed.

This act made them save
two black holes around their eyes,
emulating the fat and lazy pandas.
It also weakened
their other senses.
They heard the voices of others
lower than before.
They reacted to others’ actions
slower than before.
Sometimes, they didn’t react at all—
they stayed in a passive position
like a rock waiting to be broken.

Such was the impact of the piece to them—
giving them vampire bites,
draining their bloods in exchange
for the sensation it gave them.
Men supposedly made it
to make communications better and easier—
as a result, one-on-one talk diminished
and camera was often
became the middle party between its users.
Teenagers were more comfortable
having themselves being presented
by a specific resolution;
any nervousness they inhibited vanished
after a thousand miles of distance
between them and the people they talked to.

Such was the impact
of the piece of technology.

I like this. I think it's one of the most legit things I've read on this site. It's very revealing about how the next generation operates. I think this is great and you should keep writing more. You did really good with the Punctuation and I felt like you were really writing from personal experience. You should keep writing and I can't wait to see some more of your works!

Lightsong, I can't believe that has happened, I know what you mean in the first five lines:
"Teenagers everywhere had the piece of technology
in their hands—it's like holding their hearts.
Their eyes were glued to them
as if they were reading their lives’ predictions;
they watched each glowing line" It's so dumb how everyone these days is on electronics, technology has made everyone zombies or vampires:
"Such was the impact of the piece to them—
giving them vampire bites,
draining their bloods in exchange
for the sensation it gave them." anyway I really liked it, great poem!

Keep on writing! :) Sincerely ComputerGeek your friendly neighborhood nerd calculator pie digit remembering dude: 3.1415926535897932384626433832795

For according to the trollish philosopher Plateau, "if you wants to understan' an enemy, you gotta walk a mile in his shoes. Den, if he's still your enemy, at least you're a mile away and he's got no shoes."
— A Blink of the Screen by Terry Pratchett
