Chapter 27
-To say or not to say
She was at the lake, sitting at the end of the dock when footsteps
approached her.
“Hey Jamie,” it was Tammy. She sat down beside her, Jamie shut her
notebook.
“Don't worry, I wasn't going to read any of it.”
“I wasn't worried about that,” Jamie said.
“Okay then.” Neither Tammy nor Jamie said anything for a while, both
stared across the lake at the sunset.
“That's a little weird,” Tammy finally said.
“What is?” Jamie asked without looking away.
“Last time we were here it was sunset too.”
“Yeah,” Jamie said, “that was when you said you were leaving.”
“I remember,” Tammy said.
“Dad didn't like that too much,” Jamie said, attempting a smile.
“I can imagine,” Tammy said, “just how did he react?”
Jamie thought back to the night Tammy left. It was a Thursday, there was
a full moon, and a breeze.
“He had some sort of fit,” Jamie answered.
It was more of a disturbing fetish.
“I bet.”
She wished she knew.
“Tammy,” Jamie began.
“Yeah?”
“Why do you think some people can't control themselves while others can?”
“I don't know,” she answered, “I guess, it depends on the person's
situation, and their ability to contain their emotions.”
“Is it good to always contain your emotion?” Jamie asked, “I mean, at
some point wouldn't it just become unbearable, and you would just
explode, like a volcano being inactive for too many years, building up
pressure?”
“Well, I guess you would, but you can't react to all urges.”
“Urges aren't always the same as emotion,” Jamie pointed out.
“I know,” Tammy said.
“Urges are the result of emotion.”
“So you can react to emotion, without reacting to the urge.”
“I guess,” Jamie said, picking at the edges of her notebook.
“Jamie, can I ask you one thing?”
“Yeah, sure.”
“Why are you so resistant to telling me what happened?”
Jamie was silenced. She felt Tammy's eyes burning into her, judging her
facial expressions, as she fought to keep them blank.
“I guess,” she began, “I was afraid. Of what people would think, because I
thought it was my fault.”
“Past tense?”
Jamie nodded.
“So you're ready to tell me?”
“Under one condition,” Jamie said.
“What's that?”
“No tape recorder.”
“Okay,” Tammy smiled, “no tape recorder.”

I only have one question: why was Tammy going to see Jaime to begin with? Was it to ask again if she would speak? Because you lead into that, but it seems like Tammy just showed up without a reason.
