Chapter 14

-Purposes

-On both accounts

She cried far into the night, tears soaked her mothers shoulder.

“It'll be okay,” her mom said repeatedly, until finally Jamie was asleep, curled up on the floor with her head on her mothers lap. Her mother stayed there all night.

Everything was not alright, however. Tammy was gone, and with her had gone the only thing keeping Richards rage in check.

And he found new means of punishment, a million times worse than ever before. At least once a week her dad would make his way up the stairs and to Jamie's room, where she was forced to be quiet until he was satisfied with her punishment.

She lost her spirit, falling deeper and deeper into eternal silence, afraid of what might slip out her mouth, and what would come of it.

***

I never thought that I would be that kind of person, the lost cause. The one so helplessly depressed that it began to change her, eating up her life until it was all that was left.

What can you do to save yourself? How can you stop the fall? How do you get back up?

You can't.

It's my purpose, leading to the rest of my life. It's part of me, and something good must come of it, otherwise why would this happen? It doesn't make sense, why someone would do that kind of thing. Disgusting, repulsive, unthinkable, is that act. Yet it still happens.

What would drive a person to that life, that hobby?

I can't deal with it much longer, one day it'll be to much. Seeing him disgusts me, I no longer fear him as much as I hate him.

The kind of hate having nothing to do with love.

It's my purpose, I believe, to answer the questions of my mind,

and not just for myself. But for you.

It's my job to spread the knowledge of what most are afraid to

speak of, take the censored out of the dark.

And I know just how do that, I just have to wait for the right

moment.

***

Another phone call from Amber, and Jamie was pulled out of her

fantasy world where everything was okay, and into reality. Nat needed them.

Chris broke up with her, claiming that he had other things on his mind, that

was all Amber told Jamie, but for some reason she knew the whole story

would come out tonight. It always did.

For some reason, Jamie was glad for the distraction, another way to escape

the house and evade him.

The wash still had Chris's car, he left it as a parting gift, really it was just

because it wouldn't start anymore. Jamie pulled up, and got out of the car

feeling weird about not having to honk a warning. It almost felt like a crime

by now, even if Chris wasn't there somebody else was usually there taking

his place. Natalie wasn't good with monotony.

Amber was already there, having left her house before Jamie as usual.

Natalie was a mess, her makeup ran down her face in a disgusting looking

black gunky ruin, she was crying onto Amber shoulder smearing it all over

her shoulder in the process.

“Hey,” Jamie said as she approached.

“Oh, Jamie!” Natalie cried when she heard her voice. Amber looked up,

exhausted already by Natalie's condition.

“Hey Nat,” Jamie said, “I'm so sorry.”

“I know,” Natalie wiped the gunk off of her face as she spoke, only

succeeding in smearing it even further. “He was so perfect.”

“No he wasn't,” Amber said.

“Yes he was, I wish his stupid parents weren't moving! I suggested a long

distance relationship-”

“You wouldn't be able to stick to it,” Jamie pointed out.

“That's what he said!” Natalie wailed, throwing her head back onto Amber's

shoulder. Jamie sat next to them, putting one hand on Natalie's arm. Any

other breakup she would have known the words to placate her, but for

some reason to many day's of silence had stolen them from her.

“I have an idea,” Amber began, prying Natalie's face from her, “Let's see a

movie.”

“Really?” Natalie asked, receiving a nod. Jamie sighed internally.

The movie theater lights shone on the street, easily seen from almost all

the way across the small town. It stood, a tall tower of Las Vegas inspired

shimmer and easy to read brick letters spelling out “Theater.”

Oh so original.

The names of movies were posted just inside the lobby, once again in

lights displayed on a large gray and red screen.

“What do you want to see?” Amber asked.

“I don't care, you pick,” Natalie the control freak said.

“Really?” Jamie asked, astonished.

“Yeah,” Natalie sighed. Amber and Jamie looked back to the names of

movies.

“The Last Date?” Amber said, there was a small whimper.

“Constant rejection?” Jamie said, now receiving a sniffle.

“A Crying Shame. Good God, what's with all the fucking romances?”

“Romance's gone wrong, you mean,” Jamie corrected.

“This was a bad idea,” Natalie said, turning around.

“Hm, how about 'Dejected?'” Jamie asked.

“Jamie, you're not helping,” Amber whispered angrily at her.

“Fine,” Jamie said, “you pick one!”

Amber looked up, studying the lighted words in turn.

“Got it,” she said at last, Natalie looked away from the ground.

“Poison Mind.”

“The horror flick?”

Natalie let out a loud wailing cry, Jamie looked around the room, catching

curious and annoyed glances, she was suddenly embarrassed.

“Did you and Chris see that?” Amber asked.

“We didn't watch it,” Natalie said, throwing her arms up in the air.

And Jamie lost it, falling into an endless pit of laughter.

Richards rage
Richard [apostrophe] rage. Richard owns his rage! (lol, I had to say that, it sounds funny..)

It's my job to spread the knowledge of what most are afraid to
speak of, take the censored out of the dark.
If so, give us a better rape scene ;-)

Jamie pulled up, and got out of the car
[comma]feeling weird about not having to honk a warning.

Natalie was a mess, her makeup ran down her face in a disgusting looking
black gunky ruin, she was crying onto Amber shoulder smearing it all over
her shoulder in the process.
this should be cut up into separate sentences, and the second shoulder cut out.

to many day's of silence
too, and days shouldn't be possessive.

This was chapter was OK but I felt it didn't really move the story forward too much... It'll probably do more later, yeah? And why did her friend throw her hands in the air? That seemed dramatic and unneeded.

Very good, I like it when a chapter is on both accounts.

Seeing him disgusts me, I no longer fear him as much as I hate him.

You use the word hate in the next sentence again, so maybe try changing it to 'loathe' or something else....?

How can her mum let this go on????? Poor, poor Jamie!

Achingly nastily well writ. And that's all I can say. Sorry. :(
