Chapter 28

Jamie already knew when to go to the court house, the trial would start in a
few days and there was a meeting to go over the small details.
Jamie's mom was there along with a strange man who held the appearance
of a lawyer who thought he could do no wrong. There was also the judge, a
short woman dressed in a suit with an almost child-like appearance to her.
Jamie took her seat alone next to the empty seat that was supposed to be
for Tammy.
“Miss Dumont,” the judge nodded to her, Jamie smiled at her.
“When will Ms. Ellis be here?” she asked.
“Uh...she wont,” Jamie said.
“You should have called,” The Judge said, “we need to reschedule, do you
know when she will be available?”
“Well, she's available, but she isn't working with me at the moment.”
“Why not?”
“I fired her.”
The strange man next to Jamie's mom suppressed a laugh, Judge Vogel
quieted him with a deathly glance.
“The court will assign you a lawyer then, and we'll reschedule this meeting,
and your case, to a later date.”
“No,” Jamie said.
“Yes?”
“Is there any way I could go without a lawyer?” Jamie asked.
“You want to represent yourself?” Vogel asked.
“Yes,” Jamie nodded.
“Okay then, are you sure?” Jamie nodded again and Vogel wrote
something down on a yellow legal pad.
“Mr. Ortega,” she said when she was finished, “You are here on the behalf
of the victims ex-wife, is that correct?”
“Yes,” the man said in a deep, throughly legal voice.
Vogel wrote another thing down.
“Miss. Dumont, you've previously stated that you plead innocent, are you
staying with that?”
“Yes,” Jamie answered.
“Okay, the court date is still set for May 30th, with the charge of Grievous
Bodily Harm.” Vogel said, “I'll see you all then.”
They all got up and left, except for Judge Vogel who stayed in her office
moving papers around on her desk.
Jamie's eyes met her mothers, and she found something she didn't expect.
Not hate, but lingering paternal emotions. Love and regret.
Without words Jamie knew her mom was already sorry.

Okay.. I know I didn't skip a chapter, but this makes no sense.
She just fired her lawyer, and now she is her own lawyer....?
Logic is going crazy again, but I trust you.
It was good. I liked the re-write. I did have me confused at some points, but overall, it was a good story.

Well, mostly it will be new stuff, soon. Right now I'm fixing these past few chapters, but next on my list to write is 30:2 which hasn't been posted here yet, so...yeah...new chapters. I just had to fix a bunch of things here first, basically fixing that stupid court thing. hehe. But I've got it all planned out, so there should be no more of that confusion for a while. Sorry.

Another good re-write here, again it sounds very professional. I'm a little confused at thew moment though, with whats new and stuff? Are you just doing re-writes at the moment, or will you be posting the new chapters soon?
