It is My Nature

Nature

Is a funny thing.

-

The way you can need something so desperately

And destroy it

With a single touch of your hand.

-

A scorpion's stinger delving into the skin

Of the very frog who was to save it

And yet

Who could blame him?

-

It is my nature.

-

Joyful to the last second

Taking advantage of the poor frog’s kindness

And yet

-

It is my nature.

-

The frog struggles for breath as he sinks

Deep into the murky waters

The scorpion simply smiles

For who could blame him?

-

I couldn’t help myself.

It is my nature.

-

And yet,

What if we could change that nature?

Twist it into something new

-

With just a few words

Perhaps we could change this history

Make amends and learn to love

-

Oh, I just couldn’t help myself.

The scorpion shrugs, doing a jig atop the frogs back

It is my nature.

Hi, I'm here to review your poem!
Sorry if my review sounds weird. I haven't been reviewing that much.

First off, I have to say that your beginning is a nice way to start a poem. It makes people intrigued. Why is it a funny thing? They'll ask, so that was a nice touch.

Nature. That topic is often done too much. Usually people will take the--excuse me--overrated approach and describe the trees or whatever. But you did so much more and gave me this punch in the face. That punch is, in fact, reality. It is our nature. Not just this scorpion's nature or whatever, but also ours. We do things because we must do things. If that makes sense. I just couldn't help but compare these creatures to the society, especially in the tenth stanza. It felt like you were talking to people actually, not the scorpion.

The lines of the scorpion in between stanzas was cool, so cool that it can stand beside Chuck Norris. I loved it, like the ending, which was I think a little bit funny. (I find dark things funny, I'm sorry).

Anyways, I loved this poem as a whole, especially the last. And I love the fact that you didn't take the cliche approach and came up with this.

That's all, happy writing~

Hello, InfiniteRectangles here with a review for you!

I really loved this poem. It was so simple yet it told so much. I like how you make the scorpion's thoughts in italics, it makes it easier to differentiate between the narrator and the scorpion's thoughts. The fact that you included the scorpion's thinking process made the poem easy to follow and gave the readers a different perspective. After all, it was only the scorpion's nature, right? I don't know if this was intentional or not, but while I was reading this I thought that this paralleled human nature pretty well.

That is really all I have for you. This poem was so well written that I couldn't really find any significant criticisms. Keep writing and have a wonderful review day!

It was actually meant to parallel with human nature, so I'm glad you caught on to that! Thanks so much for your review! It means a lot to me. Have a wonderful review day as well!

Hey, I'm here for a review!

I really, really, really liked this! I liked how you developed your main idea and nature theme using an example all the way through, (the scorpion.) I love when poems use an example character all the way through, because it lets readers follow along with the poem and know what is happening easier, in my opinion.

You did really well with describing how the scorpion's nature can make him do some bad things, like betraying the frog who only wanted to help him. Bravo with that!

The formatting was good, too. I liked how you used the italics for the scorpion's thoughts. It helped me understand when it was the scorpion "talking" or when it was the narrator talking.

So, overall, well done! I really loved this!

Happy Writing!

Hi this is my review :)

This poem captures the theme of nature perfectly and I love how this parallels to human nature as well. There is nothing too flashy or complicated words used which makes this a simple poem, and being a simple poem brings the message so much clearer!

I liked how you brought the element of hope in the last couple of stanzas and how in the final stanza it suddenly goes back to that emotionless style just because "its his nature"

A big well done,

~ Radiant Shadow
