Okay, just calm down. Seriously. Do your routine. Clam down.
An intake of breath. Now, let it out. Repeat.
Shut your eyes. Open them.
Clear your head. Empty your mind.
Good.
I looked ahead, remembering that as a matter of fact, I was at work. And, as another fact, I should stop overreacting. Following my steps, I smiled as a passenger came up to me.
Here's some insight to the life of Amber Grey (aka Me). I work at British Airways as an agent. Some of the employees are also flight attendants and in the such. How I found this glorious job? Well, my brother is in the business and my parents wanted me to take up a job. So, here I am.
And I can't stop looking at him. Shit.
"Hi, um, ma'am." the passenger looked completely dazed.
"Yes?" I asked.
"I was wondering, can I bring my bottle of mouth wash with me? I mean, I believe it is un fair that the TSA took it from me. You see, I have a breath problem." I noticed that at least two seconds ago. "and I need it, badly." she was in her mid thirties, I can tell by the crow's feet.
"Listen --They took it because that's security policy. You cannot take any liquid, food items, and the such with you on board." I replied simply.
"No, I am not listening to your snarky remarks. That's very unprofessional."
And what did I say to anger this lady? Absolutely nothing. It's like a curse, or the sudden urge of hatred she has upon the airport.
"Excuse me, but I do not recall saying anything hurtful."
"Pfft. You do not recall." she mimicked my American accent.
Just cause you're British it does not make you any better than I am.
"Can you please sit back down?" I pointed at the seats, already annoyed.
With a deep breath and a look of death, she walked back to her seat and focused on swearing at herself as she looked through her purse. Good. Lady. Goood. That's how you do it.
I turned back to the office in which many of us sat in, waiting for flights. Most of the employees have come off of working at this other job. They got upgraded to this one. The only thing I know about the other job is that you pushed wheelchairs. Oh so fun.
The guy I've been avoiding sat on the desk chair, scrolling through some documents on the computer. His suit, British Airways approved, was hugging him nicely as he concentrated on what he was doing. My heart raced automatically once he turned his face and smiled.
"Amber, hi."
Well, hi to you too.
I just smiled and sat down next to him, crossing my legs. The last thing I wanted to do in a skirt was sit with my legs spread out. Looking at the screen, I saw the information on the timing of arival and departure. How many wheelchairs were needed. If anyone had meet-and-assists. If food was delivered. Everything.
He worked as one of the people in higher position. Not manager or supervisor, but lead. It was a level which he ran us, the agents, and told us what to do. Boss for us, in the sense.
"Whatchu looking at?" I asked.
"Just some stuff for the flight. It's an important one, I heard. Some big name actor is on it."
Smiling even wider than before, I asked. "Who?" exciting. I am actor/movie freak here. He smiled back.
"Daniel... um..." before he could finish, I practically screamed. "RADCLIFFE?"
Now he burst out laughing, holding his stomach. I slapped his arm and he pretened to be hurt.
"Not cool. I'm being serious!"
He just couldn't stop.
"Okay... Okay..." he managed to calm down a bit. "I don't know Amber, I'll check the passenger list for you. Just don't go screaming when you see him, alright?"
Nodding, I let him do his thing. I watched as he opened the window to the passenger list. Well, I would've expected First Class, but no, he was in Economy. Maybe it was just a mix-up. Maybe someone had the same name as him, happens.
"Nah, it can't be him." I said, looking at him.
He looked back, a little sorrow showing in his eyes. "Well they said it was."
"Just by reading his name. Anyone can have his name."
"True," he sighed.
I laid my chin against my hand. It was getting boring now. There were times where I could talk to this guy but there were also other times... he bored me to tears. But then again, I just couldn't talk to him for long or else he would just get boring. Grr.
"Jay!" I heard a girl say.
That made my head go up and make sure it was just no one. Maybe someone had the same name as him. But no. Penelope walked in, her hair bouncing off her shoulders, and smiled. She was one of the prettiest girls here and that made me jealous. Of course. She could get him anytime. And she knew that.
"Hey Penelope!" He smiled, standing up to hug her.
Oh no, fire in my heart. My body is burning. Stop what you are doing Jay unless you want me to die. To burn up like wood. To turn into a pile of ash.
He let her go, still standing and at her full attention. Dude, I'M DYING HERE! No, I just have to stop. Looking like a jealous, major freak ain't gonna help much.
"You hungry?" she asked.
Jesus Christ No.
"Yeah, kind of."
Dude. No.
"Wanna go on break?"
My lungs are burning now. Please STOP.
I couldn't bear to look at them any longer so I just looked at the computer and searched through the documents. Five wheelchairs. Two meet-and-assists. Two-hundred and thirty-seven passengers, one of them being in the possibility of Daniel Radcliffe. Impossible. But. Possible. He might make me happy today. Autograph. Picture. Ah.
But in the minute I couldn't let him respond to that. Well, of course I would, me being a coward... but this time, I couldn't let it slip.
"Jay," I called out, still looking at the computer.
No reaction. I turned in my seat and looked at the doorway. He was gone.

Hi Nike!
I love the voice in this, particularly the "unless you want me to die because it just cracked me up. I think this is probably a humorous piece, at least I hope you intended it to be, because I found it pretty funny all up.
I agree with Hannah about the introduction because people don't really talk like that, and by "that" I mostly mean the parenthesis. And the caps just don't work in fiction as well as you might think. She's shouting internally, but the italics would probably work better to convey that at this point. Also no to "stahp" internet slang won't translate well to fiction yet, not until it's more than just a meme and is in mainstream conversation.
I'd like to know more about this dreamboat and how cute he is as well! We know Amber is way into him but we only get that he fills out his uniform like a boss *pun intended! I want to know how much of a cutie he is as well as some information about the little things he does, which girls usually notice when they like guys. Maybe he runs a hand through his hair when he’s looking at the computer, or he bits his lip when he writes on a note pad or something! Maybe he fidgets or walks with a little swagger when he goes to see Penelope? I liked the hug there; it shows their relationship a bit. I also like that Penelope didn't even look at Amber. It suggests that she’s secure in whatever relationship she has with Jay and she’s not at all concerned about Amber. That’s an excellent touch to be using here.
I do like what you have but it is very short! I understand that you have more to come and I hope that it will be stronger on the content. I am also a little surprised this is a teen fiction? Is Amber a teenager because she doesn't feel like one at all – but perhaps you’re writing an adultcentric story for teens? Never mind if that is the case, but if it isn't then we can’t let Amber on that plane, I can’t image that airlines let teens be air stewards (or whatever they’re called these days). If you want to stretch our belief there then I think you need to make her an older teen and explain that she started at the company younger or something. I feel like it might end up being a loose end you have to tidy up otherwise.
Thank you for the read! Please hit me up with any questions, queries or just to chat!

Hey, Nike! What's this? It's so short. Did you mean to post more with it? In any case, I do have some comments about what little is here.
The first thing that I noticed was how weird the transition is from clear, powerful imperatives to the sudden distant past. When you open with imperative, it makes us feel like your writing is going to be in present tense, and at least for me it was really jarring to read, "I looked ahead". I was not just taken, but FLUNG out of the moment that had started this piece, and all the way back into some story-telling past. That's the first thing.
The next thing is that this character does way too much explaining about themselves. Is that really how you want them to come off? Can you imagine anyone in real life coming up to you and saying, "Here's some *insight *into the life of Amber Grey (aka me)"? I can't! So I recommend reading your work aloud before you post it. I get that advice ALL the time, and it seems like it's just unnecessary and bothersome, but it helps you catch where lines stumble and where dialogue doesn't sound real. It might help you catch stuff like that.
Oh, and if you noticed the starred words up there, those were corrected words. Please be sure to check your work for typos and grammar errors before posting it. We're basically your co-workers. We're here to offer our advice and opinions, not here to pick up after you, so I know you can lower that capital "o" in Following before you give your work over to critiquers.
Anyway, there wasn't a lot to work with here. I have no idea what's coming next, so I can't say I am excited to read it, so if you edit this, you should hook the reader in more. What's so exciting that you wanted to write about a British Airways agent? An airport is definitely a good setting, but why did you choose it?
Good luck, and PM or wall-post me if you have any questions!
I didn't finish this yet. I had to post this cause I was using someone else's computer and couldn't save it. Sorry
