XOXO October

In My Work

Flickering lamppost lights and I am still standing near the centenarian bridge,

Wearing the same brown scarf around my neck, as I wonder, my fingers fidge.

What if that brumal didn't end, nor did our sharing of coats of kempty,

Only if the birds of our love didn't migrate and leave their nest, my heart empty.

Your absence blooms like bitter wine, fermented in October's chill,

A vintage grief I sip in time, too potent now to ever truly drink my fill.

This sky once carried your mirth and danced with the shadows of your smile,

Now it whispers your name, to replace the warmth of your hand, when I get febrile.

We used to watch the golden sky bleed into dusk, but today, I watch it mourn for us,

You taught me that even love can leave a scar, if the chapters remain incomplete, thus.

The road is full of yellow leaves of Aspen, full of your honey dripped promises,

But once a leaf falls down, a heart breaks, nothing is left except hugs and kisses.

In the theater of fall, the crimson leaves forget, leaving the tall tree spellbound,

My beloved and the leaves went, while I still search for our love at lost and found.

At least the leaves descend with more conviction than the words you had enunciated,

Musing, on a mahogany chair I sit, holding a frame of our love, begging to be appreciated.

The words on those beige letters have faded, but vestige of our love has not,

I was too dumb to believe in your words, to think that you wanted to tie the knot.

Now autumn replays what we couldn't recover, each breeze like a long-lost lover,

And though time forgets, I'll always remember, my heart signed off with XOXO October.

Okay, leave it to poetry to teach me more obscure words like “brumal” or “febrile”. I feel like they fit very well into the poem :3
I don’t know what “kempty” is tho, the dictionary doesn’t know it either ☹

Especially in the last few lines, the regret of the narrator really comes through. Also like the line with playing what cant be recovered”.
Also interesting to use msg speak in this poem at the end.

I feel like the lines were too long to really let the rhymes come through. It’s still really impressive that they all rhyme tho! (And it taught me how to pronounce “febrile” too xd)

Wow... this is so beautiful. The representation of October, the personification and the way it's like a letter you're writing to them. I love this so much, it's amazing. The creativity, I especially love the XOXO, even more like a letter or a text you wish to send to someone who'd never read it. The feeling is soft and dark, like a field dimly lit by lanterns that give the leaves on the ground a gentle orange glow. Amazing!
