For a Stranger's Child ~ Chapter 1

My thoughts interrupted my dream and stopped it immediately. My body automatically stood up from the bed, and my eyes remained wide opened for a few seconds. I waited until I was completely awake to realize and make sure I wasn't in a hotel, there wasn't a child in the room,  I was home and I was still a single successful woman.

"Just a dream," I said outloud, to console myself and forget about all those nightmares I had been having.

Rays of dawn sneaked through my window and created a mild shadow behind my back.

Time to get up, I thought. A second later, the clock confirmed it with nuisance beeps. I made it stop, and turned on the radio instead, with music so loud that I could hear it from every corner of the apartment.

I danced all the way to the kitchen, and got my coffee ready. My work clothes was ready, laying over the kitchen chair, and so was I, or so I thought.

I took a shower and started to get ready. I remember I applied make up on eyes as I hopped on my heels, planning to leave the radio on, on an attempt to make my neighbor think I would not leave today. I fixed by blouse as I silently started to rotate the door's knob, then I opened slowly and cautiously; my eyes sneaked in between the door and the lintel, and I smiled at the fact that he wasn't there.

The radio thing worked, I thought.

So I grinned, thinking of me as a clever, intelligent, successful woman. When I closed the door behind me, and looked to the other side, all those thoughts vanished, and I couldn't help but sigh.

"Good morning, Ambar," he said, looking rather excited to see me.

I faked a smile, and greeted him back as I got the key to close the door.

"Hey, you kind of let me hanging on my words last night," Ryan said. As a lawyer, I had learned to read between the lines, and I knew where he was coming.

I chuckled, and tried to avoid the subject by nodding and pulling my clothes to look like I was in a rush, but his eyes looked out for mine and I had to stop and look at him.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I was so sleepy. I tent to ignore people when that happens." He chuckled, and pretended to believed that.

"Well, I won't hesitate anymore," he said. I raised an eyebrow and crossed my arms. "With you, one's gotta be direct and to the point, because you could be gone any minute." He laughed, but said nothing. Ten seconds of silence was enough for me to get back to my plans, and so I fixed my purse over my shoulder and walked passed him.

"No, no, no. Wait!" he yelled out, laughing, as he made my stop when he put his hand over my shoulder. "See? You make it hard. Girl, you should stay in a rhythm."

I stopped, and pressed my lips against each other as I turned around. "What is it, Ryan?" I asked in a grumpy tone. "I am running late for work." Then, I laughed to relax the intensity.

"Alright." He smiled slightly. "I dreamt you came over and watched us play. And so, I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to invite you to an event we're having during the night at a--"

"Oh, you know, I dreamt a stranger passed by me and gave me his child for Christmas," I interrupted. "And it's not the first time, so I am pretty sure it doesn't mean anything," I added and chuckled.

Ryan tilted his head, and raised an eyebrow. Then left two seconds of silence in between the conversation, before saying: "And, that was a very rough indirect "no"." He looked down to the floor and started to sway on his feet.

"It's nothing," I said as I put my hand over his shoulder and tried to make him look at me. "I'm just going to be really busy, okay?" I added, trying to make it sound like it was nothing personal.

Like a kid, his expression changed quickly; he smiled and nodded. "Real busy. I understand," he said.

"I'll see you later," I said, and then walked away.

As I got on my car, that face of him remained on my mind. I closed my eyes tightly and shook my head; he was too much of a distraction. I pretended nothing ever happened and turned on the engine to start my day. A day that wouldn't turned out to be like any other scheduled day of mine.

Nitpicks

My thoughts interrupted my dream and stopped it immediately.

This seems like a strange thing to say – how can your thoughts interrupt a dream? Therefore it’s not the best opening line.
My body automatically stood sat up from in the bed,

"Just a dream," I said out loud,

It’s either “out loud” or “aloud.”
My work clothes was were ready,

I remember I applied make up on eyes as I hopped on my heels, planning to leave the radio on, on in an attempt

I fixed by my blouse as I silently started to rotate the doorknob, then I opened the door slowly and cautiously;

and I knew where he was coming this was going.

I tend to ignore people when that happens." He chuckled, and pretended to believe that.

so I fixed my purse over my shoulder and walked passed past him.

Girl, you should stay in a rhythm."

What does that mean?
Then He left two seconds of silence in between the conversation, before saying, "And, that was a very rough indirect ’no.'"

As I got on in my car, that face of him his remained on my mind.

engine to start my day, a day that wouldn't turn out to be like any other scheduled day of mine.

General
This was a good first chapter! I'm interested to see what happens with the stranger's child she's been dreaming about, and with Ryan.

You had some weird grammar things going on... is English not your first language? I fixed them in my nitpicks, so let me know if you have any questions about them.

Otherwise, I really liked this. I could picture everything really well, like a movie. You have good descriptive skills, like "rays of dawn sneaked through my window" and "I hopped on my heels." Ambar's relationship with Ryan is really interesting, as she seems to have mixed feelings about him.

Let me know when you post the next chapter!

Prolix

Hi, Prolixity.

Thank you so much for your review. It's just what I needed. And, to answer your question, no; English is my second language. The other day, I was comparing my writings, Spanish and English, and I realized I need to work with my English in every way. Because, I feel the magic in what I write in my language, but not in English. Hahah. xD But anyway, I'm working on that, and I'll be working on that.

So, thank you again<3 ^_^
