After meticulously preparing the lunch boxes for her children and husband, she watched them depart, their laughter echoing down the hallway as they headed to school and the office, respectively. The door clicked shut behind them, leaving a comfortable silence in its wake. She cleaned up the counters, wiping away the traces of breakfast chaos before finally allowing herself a moment of reprieve.
She made herself a cup of tea and settled onto the balcony, watching the city wake up around her. The warm, soothing smell of the tea took her back to the days when she worked tirelessly to make her dreams come true, surviving on little more than this simple drink. Each sip reminded her of long hours and hard choices, a time filled with both struggle and hope. Even with all the difficulties she faced, a quiet joy filled her heart, knowing she was growing stronger and closer to the person she aspired to be.
After watching the struggles of her mother and sister in their marriages, she vowed never to marry until she could stand on her own two feet but life had other plans. Her parents worried about her future, resorted to threats, insisting they would harm themselves if she didn’t agree to marry. The idea of marriage felt foreign and distant. Yet time rushed by, and before she realized it, she found herself a mother of two. Caught in a whirlwind of unexpected responsibilities, she grappled with the reality of a life she had never wanted, trying to reconcile her dreams with the path she was now on.
After the marriage, her family abandoned her, creating conflicts she couldn’t even understand. She often thought of her mother, who had endured so much in her life yet left her alone during pregnancy, right when she needed support the most. The challenges kept piling up, and soon after her father died, she didn’t even get the chance to say goodbye because no one told her. She sank into an endless darkness, feeling as if she had been married off against her will. Raising the twins was overwhelming, especially since her husband’s family was consumed by their own problems, leaving her to face it all alone. Each day felt like a struggle, with no help in sight.
Though her husband was there physically, she felt a disconnect between them. He was a good man, shouldering the responsibility of caring for the family and his parents. Deep down, she longed to work and build something for herself, but he insisted she focus on the twins while he worked tirelessly to provide. After that conversation, she kept her dreams to herself, swallowing her aspirations in silence, feeling both grateful and trapped in a life that seemed to drift further from her own desires.
Years passed, and their home expanded from a one-bedroom to a two-bedroom, then to three. Yet, she never felt a true sense of belonging. With each new space, the struggles they faced only deepened the chasm between them, leaving them both feeling lost. She often thought of how they had simply upgraded their kitchen, moving from a smaller one to a larger one for her to work, but it felt like merely a change of scenery. The warmth of a home, the intimacy of shared dreams, seemed to slip further away, leaving her with an emptiness that no amount of space could fill.
Her eyes were dry, devoid of tears, and she felt a hollow detachment from the world around her. Countless times, she questioned her existence, searching for answers that never came. Memories of her past flashed before her like a bolt of lightning, revealing a tangled web of struggles that had left her weary. As she stared at the clock, it struck her that it was time for her children to come home. With a heavy heart, she stood up to welcome them, holding onto the fragile hope for a better future for their lives, a future she wished could be different from her own.
She never mentioned her name because she felt invisible in every home she entered. For some, It might have been a choice; for others, a sacrifice or simply the result of circumstances. Whatever the reason, she remained there, quietly enduring. It wouldn’t hurt to show her some respect now and then, to ask how her day was, before it was too late. A simple acknowledgment could mean the world to her, reminding her that she mattered, even if she often felt unrecognized.

Hey!! I'm back! Let's dive right in! *Splash*
I really like this sentence. I'm guessing based on this that she may in fact be an introvert which I suppose was also hinted at with her long moments of reflecting in earlier chapters.I love how you described her settling down and looking out over the town. She has turned her moments of bustling movement into a calm serene morning. Once again I am reminded that she is a very hard worker, always striving to do her very best.
So I am beginning to believe that she was forced into marriage, but the interesting thing is that she is not bitter. Rather, she tries her hardest to make of what she can of her life and accept whatever comes. That's a really admirable trait. She appears open to anything and has let go of the insecurities of her younger self in order to take on the responsibilities that life throws at her.
I love how you take this deep dive into her past. She does appear that she was once bitter. But now she has grown past these feelings. This is quite honestly such a beautiful narrative with that theme.
This is a little bit a nitpick, but I felt like this part was phrased slightly awkwardly. I suggest changing the tense of "disconnect" to "she felt disconnected." But just a tiny suggestion.
The conversation between her husband and herself seems to in a sense be a turning point for her. This seems to be the first time she starts to accept things the way they are, although definitely not without a little bitterness about not being able to pursue her own interests. Great job describing all of that back and forth she felt while she was going through that!
I just needed to pull this line because this was so awesome! I feel a deep sense of regret and sadness in the woman as she thinks about it. She was not happy even in her own space.
The entire paragraph I'm snatching this line from was super powerful, but this imagery was absolutely stellar! Even though she has grown older, she still longs to run and be free. Yet, she grounds herself to her responsibilities and seeks to fulfill them to the best of her ability and pour life and meaning into what feels to her to be meaningless.
Now I find this part to be of interest. Normally the clock strikes, but this time the clock strikes her she is ripped from her thoughts and back into reality. How short did she have time to herself. That was so obvious by the fact that there was such a short bit before that! Great job with the pacing!!
Also I love your description of her being void of tears. She has become so drained from everything she has lost her liveliness and has in a sense become a robot working routine hours without meaning. And she deeply wants that to change.
Your grammer is absolutely STELLAR, but I did find one place to critique, and that's this part. You capitalized the "I"
Now for my concluding thoughts. I believe this narrative acts as a call to action in a sense as this woman is really not that much different from others. She feels like her life lacks purpose and even though she seems to function so well on her own, even trying to find meaning and purpose to what she does, she feels very alone. In a sense I feel like this is a call to reflect on the strangers we meet and the people we know who live listless lives...That these could be the people at most need of an encouraging word and something to bring back their sense of meaning and self importance.
Overall, I really loved the story. And now I see why everyone else seemed to have names mentioned in the narrative and not the main character because she already feels that she is drifting away from the people she should feel connected to. Somebody tell this lady something nice, PLEASE. I'm getting concerned xD.
Hope this review made you smile

Wanted to point this out really quickly: the spacing between the first paragraph and the second is smaller than the spacing between any other paragraph.
Thanks for the review taking ur time reading my work...those are honest mistakes while trying to post..once again the insights you suggested wmvery helpful.
So glad to be of help
Hi there, Alwayssea. Icy here for a quick review on a wet and windy Friday! Let's get right into it.
Watch out for repeatedly long and run on sentences here. There's a lot of this in this chapter and it can make your pacing feel off because everything is long, laborious and drawn out. Interspersing with some shorter sentences every now and again would help keep the story moving.
I do, however, think you've really captured the melancholic tone here. The sipping of the tea and staring out into the world feels like something we can all relate to, and just that simple act really helps me connect with your character.
I haven't read any of your previous chapters, so I'm not sure whether the things our main character is reflecting on/ remembering actually happen on the page. If not, this could be considered to be too passive a voice because we as the reader are distanced from the action and are just hearing a retelling. If it does happen on the page (or at least some of it) then completely disregard this comment
I felt the name was an odd thing to bring up to end on, because it doesn't call back to anything in the rest of the chapter (although again, I acknowledge it could be in a previous chapter I've missed). Are the homes she enters a reference to them moving into bigger houses? This felt like the thoughts of a maid or maybe a nanny, but I didn't get that from the rest of the piece.
Overall I think this was well written, but I'm not sure we came to any resolution or conclusion other than her own thoughts which feel more like a stream of consciousness than anything else. I think you have the bones of something that could be edited into a stronger narrative if you decided though, as the characterisation is very clear!
Hope this was helpful
Icy
Thank you so much for your insights...
Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night(whichever one it is in your part of the world),
Hi! I'm Kate and I'm here to leave a quick review!!
First Impression
Well this was quite the tale and this I think is a fitting little end, tying it all up well into one neat little end product that gives us just a little bit of advice on top of it all.
Anyway let's get right to: Kate's Line by Line Reactions;
Well it seems like with all of that sorted, she's once again able to take a moment to herself only this seems the strongest yet as she simply appreciates all the hard work that she put in to get to where she has now.
Well it seems despite everything that she was able to accomplish, she wasn't able to avoid getting into a marriage she didn't want. Love the phrasing especially on that last line of how life thrust her where she didn't and know her hard work and that would clash to take her to her dreams.
Well looks like that was her greatest challenge yet there, facing things beyond what she had faced before and having to deal with a family of her own on top of everything else with no support.
Well it looks like they are not much more than a family in name there from the sound of it. They are all they're but not really, not for each other and there is no real support, just this artificial feeling and the cherry on top being that our protagonist just has to swallow it all up and give up on her dreams to sustain it all.
Well it looks like ultimately she's stuck in this vicious cycle having to make others happy when her own dreams crumble around her and now her children are right back hope and all she has to hold on to is an all too fragile hope. Beautifully done there.
Ooooh that's a powerful ending, showing how no one acknowledges her or the immense about of hard work she puts in and its about time there was someone who noticed before things were too late. Well that's a powerful ending that really seems like it speaks directly to us readers.
Aaand that's it for this oneee!!!
Overall
Overall I think this is a lovely tale of how this person recognizes everything that brought her here and what its all meant and I love that ending showing that its about time others recognize her too. An amazing little tale!
As always remember to: Take what you think was helpful and forget the rest!
Kate
